Big Blue Huddle / Re: Huge Game for Thibs
October 30, 2023, 09:19:13 AM
So if I'm to understand this correctly in a game when he was the most dominant force on the field providing numerous big plays in big spots. Sacks. Ending drives. All of that is erased because of an offsides penalty?

To those arguing that, do you think they would have even been within 2 TDs of the Jets let alone leading in that spot without him? Cause I don't.

He should be defensive player of the week and he deserves it. It's baffling. This kid is developing into the best pass rusher they've had since JPP and the poor guy just can't win.

Quote from: files58 on October 29, 2023, 10:48:29 PMThe real issue is why does this thread even exist?  :o  :( We're talking about Tommy effing DeVito at QB and we've only reached the half way point in the season. It's not like it's week 13 or 14 where holiday season mitigates the level of agida. Then again we were 1 second, 1 fu%n second from beating the jets with a High School QB. Isn't that an accomplishment?  ;)  /sarcasm/  :greetings:  ~X(    :suspious:  :what:  :boooo:

And apparently the Jets spotted their own ball before the spike not the referee. Meaning that spike play probably shouldn't have counted.

But to answer the question at hand... I feel like they're going to get their asses kicked. And I know they're playing an equally crappy Raiders team but that team has an NFL QB. Even if he's not very good. The Giants do not. Defense may keep them in it for a while but there's only so much they can do. Gilliam better make sure that leg is warmed up and stretched out cause he's in for one hell of a workout yet again

Quote from: Painter on October 29, 2023, 08:25:06 PMCuss out Kafka all you wish but today's debacle was all on Daboll once Taylor was lost. From that early moment in the game, to whatever extent it was Kafka's Game Plan to begin with, it was no longer. Do we really think that the decision to abandoned the pass after 5 minutes into the 2Q and for essentially all of the remainder of the game was Kafka's. Please, don't make me laugh.

After one 30 plus yard run by Barkley and subsequent TD to make it 10-7 it was run, run, run, one 3 and out after another until Daboll finally screwed the pooch with a foolish TO for a FG try instead of going for it on 4th and 1 which even if they didn't convert would have taken long enough to unpile with the clock running to leave no time for those two long passes from what as it turned out was the Jets 25.

Dabollesque not Kafkaesque.

Cheers!

Did Devito do anything at all to inspire confidence when he was given the chance to throw early? Behind that OL without his best receiver and looking mostly shell shocked while the defense was all but pitching a shutout I'd argue 3 and out + punt was a greater chance of winning the game than telling Devito to go wild and hope he doesn't take a sack/fumble or throw a back breaking INT.

Probably should have still handed it off on 4th and 1 and hoped for the best though.

Absolutely. You realize if Gano makes that kick Daboll would have won a game against a quality defense without QB1, QB2, his stud LT, his starting RT, and his best receiver in Waller?

Now I would have gone for it on 4th and 1.  And if he knew Gano was compromised it's certainly a questionable decision to kick it at all. And yes, if Devito is on the team he should be allowed to throw the ball. But did any of his throws inspire confidence that he could complete a forward pass? The Jets best chance at offense was with their defense. Daboll felt his best chance to win was to allow his defense to pitch a shutout without getting in their way and for the most part he was right.

They had no business being in that game after Waller and Taylor went down. He did what he had to do no matter how it would make him look because he knew it was his only chance. He's not perfect, but I'll gladly take him back.

Big Blue Huddle / Re: Giants deserved to lose

That's the thing. If you won't let him throw the ball why the hell is he on the roster at all?

I'm not a big fan and I do think Taylor gives them a better chance to win but even if that wasn't the case I wouldn't want them to mess around with a neck injury.  I hope he's alright and can continue his career, but if he's not 100% they shouldn't throw him back out there.

Gotta like what you're seeing from the Rangers so far.  Only 1 real stinker in there and a whole lot of positives.  Laffy off to a hot start, certainly hope he can keep that up all season.  Maybe finally realizing his potential?

Quick has been the best backup goalie they've had for Shesty yet.  Halak was fine down the stretch, but started ice cold (pun intended) whereas Quick looks like the goalie of old all over again.  I think not having to play a full season as a starter should help keep him fresh as the year goes along too.  He's no spring chicken.  But it's good to know if Shesty gets into one of his funks, or even just has a nagging injury, they can go to a guy that can play at that level.

And how about the backend of the roster!  Goodrow/Bonino/Vesey is a much better 4th line than the crap they've been throwing out there the past few seasons and Gustaffson seems to have finally solidified that last D pair.  Even contributing on the Power Play.

It's still early but hard not to get excited about what we've seen so far.  Especially since Zibs hasn't found the scoring touch just yet and you know that's coming.

Quote from: Ed Vette on October 26, 2023, 04:45:30 PMActually, I like that they are bringing him along and making him a better version of himself. It will pay off in the long run. Same with WonDale. Odell had moves, speed and hands but he only ran Slants and Go Routes. The fame got to his head before he matured. Killed his career.

From the minute OBJ stepped on an NFL field he was the best player on it.  I was at his rookie debut and while he only had a handful of actual catches he was open on just about every play.  They just had no idea what they had yet.  Hyatt has that same type of talent if they were to unleash him. Which they should.  As soon as possible.

And what killed OBJ's career was injuries.  Nothing else.  He was uber competitive and routinely dominated games until freak injury after freak injury knocked him down from Elite all world athlete to simply an excellent athlete.  Unfortunately that was also the distinction that dropped him from one of the 3 best WRs in all of football to where he currently resides.

Banks is kinda right.  This is sort of weird.  It does remind me a bit of the OBJ situation too.  Where it doesn't much matter what he does on the field, some people just aren't going to like him and try to find reasons to justify it.  So he's not Michael Strahan, a first ballot HOF player, in year 2.  He's shown plenty to indicate that he's going to be a good to great player with a little development.

Quote from: Ed Vette on October 26, 2023, 01:42:12 PMHe's probably tired of them asking why isn't he getting more targets and reps.

There's an easy solution to that problem....throw your best WR the ball.  Regularly.

I would really like to see how this OL looks with Thomas and JMS healthy to go with Pugh, Glowinksi now that he's remembered how to block and Phillips at RT.  They might actually be able to field a functional line for the first time this season.

Quote from: katkavage on October 25, 2023, 03:00:36 PMI think unless Daniel Jones steps in on Sunday and leads the team to seven victories in the last ten games, the Giants will be in the market for a QB. I hope though, that unlike what Gettleman did when he reached to take Jones, they pick one they really want. Not just picking a QB for the sake of it. Find that one.

I think you're underestimating Gettleman's incompetence.  Jones WAS the one he wanted.  He was the only one that wanted him in the top 10.  And if he were still here that Jones contract would be significantly worse than it already is as he tries to save face at the expense of the team.
