Giants History / Re: Alex Webster Passes Away

This is sad....a great GIANT.

In Eliot Asinof's book "Seven Days to Sunday" he was mentioned prominently throughout.  You got a good feel for his personality and the man just from that book.

His only problem as a coach was he needed more players like himself.  He was innovative, loved the man in motion and different formations, in a day when everyone ran out of the same split backfield.

R.I.P. Alex...and thank you for everything and for being a real GIANT.

I would vote keep as is, but honestly I would find the Rangers thread if it had it's own category.  The posters there are great and knowledgeable...it is a must read daily for me.

Sorry Joey,

But I will go to my grave wondering what neutral weather conditions would have wrought for the Giant O in the "62 game at The Stadium.

Wow, I would like to have been on the inside and seen that deal hammered out.

I always wondered how in the world 3 team deals were ever agreed to harmoniously.

Thanks for coming over to the "forgotten land" and watching and posting.

I relish our history...good and bad.  There is much to be learned from our past.

I can not being a part of a "family" and not wanting to know as much as possible.

needs no introduction...but notice there were lots of BIG plays besides Tyree's catch and Plax's TD.

The drive did not start out all that well either ......................

And as has been, in my opinion, ludicrously debated on the main board, there is no way you worry about time management in this kind of situation....you have to SCORE....and then let the D take care of business.

We sure didn't rush 3 on Brady on his last drive.

Giants History / Steve Smith -- the forgotten catch
December 10, 2011, 08:28:11 AM
To me, this play was as big as Plax's TD.  3rd and 11 with 45 seconds left.

Gee, do you think we were concerned with leaving as little time on the clock as possible for Brady ??

Hell no, we were concerned about scoring...and let the D do their job...as it should be.

Giants History / GARY REASONS -- The "HIT"
December 10, 2011, 08:21:32 AM
A play every Giants fan should know about -- by our 4th best LB on the team at that time -- how is that for LB

depth.  On the bench for that game Pepper Johnson -- our 5th best at the time.

Enjoy....

Giants History / Video -- 1984 Giants vs. Jets

Now you can watch a year later -- see previous post -- and see what can happen.

Part 2 -- NFL - 1984 New York Giants @ New York Jets [2/2]

Don't know how long this will stay up on Youtube before the "police" have it taken down.

A good look at our emerging defense and a rememberance of how great teams are built...this was not a great team...3-12-1...and we almost got stuck with Howard Schnellenburger.

Still, all in all, a nice nostalgic look athe beginning of the Parcells era.

I believe if you understand the past, you can see and chart the future.

Plus you can watch 2 wastes of #1 draft choices -- Gordon King and Butch Woolfolk....and watch Joe Morris languishing on the sidelines not getting a chance.

as President Rick stated...read the late Eliot Asimof's book "Seven days to Sunday".  Homer seemed just a big, carefree kind of guy.  He loved fishing and did retire to his hometown somewhere in Texas.

He was also renowned for making up his own patterns on certain plays, which drove everyone crazy, especially the other receivers.

I think he may have been the father of The Passing Tree well ahead of his time.

This post needs a bump.

Homer Jones should be known by anyone who calls themselves a Giant fan and education of the past is important.

And yes, he was that good.

Retro, you are so right.

I remember watching Ian, and he had much better overall stuff than either Joba or Hughes.
Just another Yankee fast tracked who wasn't baseball mature, but grew into it.
Yankkes kill me with young pitchers...they nurtured Hughes carefully, then ultra fast tracked Joba who had great initial success.  They do the same with Ian, without the same success.  Banish him to the minors...he comes back in 2009, pitches 1 inning as a bridge to Mo in a BIG game against the Angels on the coast, then he does pitch another inning.

Then trade him.....ultimately for Granderson in a 3-way.
I like Curtis a lot....BUT who would you rather have ????
And I do temper his success with pitching in Nat'l. League where you have 2 guaranteed outs every time through the lineup, BUT he is very good, only 26, and will get even better.

Personally, I would have kept him, our staff would look very formidable in the playoofs with CC, Nova, and Kennedy, plus your rotation is  set for the next 5 years barring injury.

Worry not, Andy will be back...late July or early August.
