Big Blue Huddle / Re: Giants VS Commanders game thread

I like Devito more than any other QB in the last few years here.  If it wasn't Washington I'd be excited.

This article is hilarious suggesting The Giants haven't seen enough to evaluate Jones.  Are you serious??  Do they need 10 years?  He's not it.

If they pass on a QB it's not about Jones, it can only be about the prospect pool.  QBs bust.  Don't waste the pick on a guy who will only make it worse, if that's even possible.  I want Maye or Pennix.  If things don't work out perfectly or they don't like the QBs enough then trade back and add more talent that way.  We're gonna be bad again next year most likely.

I can't imagine they will fire Daboll if for no other reason that they don't want to go through another search.  He knows offense and we have a chance to draft a franchise QB next April so I think the prevailing thought from ownership would be to give this GM/Coach a chance with their own QB and see if we get back to "Coach of the Year" days.

However it's not the 2-8 record that is the problem, it's losing by 40 points every week.  I don't know if any coach can survive that, they just look lifeless and pathetic.  How do you justify retaining that? I don't ever remember days this bad and I was around for the Kent Graham days.

I just want a franchise QB, but heard his performances in big games and against good defenses aren't so great.  I will start watching college.

A real franchise QB is needed and I think this team will turn around much faster than Jones' supporters realize.  But I don't want the next Baker Mayfield or Sam Darnold either.  I would be cool sliding back slightly to add more talent and still snag a QB.

It's exciting to think about a new top talent playing for us next year, but what can we do with the contract??  One big advantage of a rookie star QB is his entry level contract leaving room to pay the players around him.  So this idiotic contract is still haunting us even if we draft someone really good.

I honestly think Jones had some trade value before this.  Now I can't see it.

No I think he stays.  He won Coach of the Year and now this. I worry he's in over his head a bit and not preparing the team.  However he and Schoen shouldn't be released without getting a chance to have their QB.  They inherited Jones and pretty soon will be in a great position to take a rookie with a much higher ceiling.  If Schoen does well he could bring in several pieces next season.

This season is a wash, the next 2 are interesting.

Quote from: jgrangers2 on November 05, 2023, 11:52:23 AMThe Giants went 9-7-1 last year and won a playoff game. All of that led to them starting this season 2-6. Winning doesn't automatically beget more winning. This team badly needs talent. If the Giants go 5-12 instead of 3-14, lose out on Maye and Williams and watch them become stars in the NFL will anyone care about those two extra wins? Do you think Jet fans look back on those two wins at the end of the 2020 season as good things? Those two wins ended up with them taking Zack Wilson instead of Trevor Lawrence. You think the Bengals regret being terrible the year before to land Burrow?

Winning 5 games instead of 3 is probably a bad thing long-term. I know that is hard to take sometimes but it's simply the nature of this sport and the way talent is brought into the NFL. No team should ever tank, but, as a fan, it's not unreasonable to realize that losing these games might be beneficial in the long run.

Yep.  I don't know why this is so hard for people to get.  Culture isn't the problem here, talent is.  KC has a damn good program, but the other contenders today were all in that bottom rung for a while and built talent through the draft.  It's especially important this year with allegedly a very talented QB class in 2024.

Anyone watch CJ Stroud today??  Wow, that's what I said watching him and want that type of guy on our team again.  So we can be good again.  Would Houston trade him away for 3 meaningless victories??

Quote from: BluesCruz on November 05, 2023, 06:12:55 PMI would not worry about this

I doubt we win another game this year......this team has quit on itself

That's my feeling and honestly it's a good thing.  I'm not even bashing the Jones contract anymore because him as the starter was the worst possible scenario and now we have a shot at a real franchise QB next year.  These games are too lopsided to be emotionally invested anyway.

Quote from: Philosophers on November 03, 2023, 12:55:28 AMReally interesting post to generate discussion.  I think that idea goes against the rugged individualist mindset that runs in this country and especially in the so-called manly sports that it is up to you to fix the problem without getting help from others.

I didn't say it in as many words, but that was my fault.  It neuters the role of Coach, Ownership and GM a bit.  If they win it's only because the league gifted them extra picks which nobody wants in the NFL in my opinion.

No, this team was not going to be good.  Jones playing means more losing which is better for our draft position.  We don't need to eek out meaningless wins that cost us a franchise chasing player.

I wish we traded Barkley honestly.  Let him play for a winner while he can still run and get some capital in return.

Quote from: Jclayton92 on October 25, 2023, 01:43:37 PMI think Jones playing actually gives us a better chance at drafting his successor than Taylor finishing the season.

100%.  Tyrod can win us some games.  I'd have a stronger feeling about it if I knew more about the '24 class.  I just know I don't like watching games like Jones has been in this year.

But yeah better for long term if we lose this season with DJ.

Quote from: ralphpal1 on October 25, 2023, 05:57:57 PMIts too late for jones
I know its not good to pay a qb 40 million a year to babysit
But would it be bad in the long run for a rookie qb to sit behind jones for a year
No matter what you think about jones
He works hard
Gives it all
And that wouldnt be bad to learn from
There were 3 rookie qbs who were drafted early this year
One.is doing amazing
One is winless
One is out for the season
That is a.33.percent success rate

It's scary in those terms.  While I have been vocal against Jones I don't want to spend the #4 overall pick on the next Sam Darnold or Jimmy Clausen.  Honestly DJ is better than that, sort of.  I would rather have a defense changing edge rusher and let Tyrod do it next year.  I really hope some impactful QB comes in here, even if it's only for 3-4 years and not 10.

Jones is not, and never has been it. The contract was a giant mistake but we're stuck. If there is a legit franchise QB available in the draft you take him no questions asked. It's absurd not to.

If not, then it's more of this. We will be back to 15 sacks, fumbles and 30-0 deficits every week once he returns.

Quote from: madbadger on October 17, 2023, 09:39:07 PMThat Taylor led offense led to zero touchdowns and two goal line failures. Tell me again how the offense looked better under Taylor than Jones.

That they were in a position to win.  Against a very good team.  On Primetime.  Jones would have been down 30-0 with 10 sacks.  Just going off this year.

Tyrod screwed up then the refs screwed up. I have more confidence in Tyrod getting the ball where it belongs.

Quote from: Bob In PA on October 16, 2023, 12:35:29 PMTo answer the original post, IMO last night showed ONLY that Taylor is (at best) an average BACKUP quarterback. Bob

Huh I think the same thing about Jones.  And he looked way worse than Tyrod.

Quote from: Trench on October 16, 2023, 01:39:32 PMHe 100% was WAY better than Jones showed previous to last night. This was the best pass rush team and we were missing 3 starters on an already depleted line and everyone and their mother said Pugh was a waste of a spot.

Guess what. Tyrod moved the ball - pretty easily at the end. Found weapons in WanDale and Hyatt and it was clear his internal clock processes quicker and his body language is calmer.

Anyone who doesn't believe me I direct you to Amani Toomers comments on the post game show

Tyrod is better and letting him start and Jones walk last offseason would have been smart.  Instead here we are.  Last night was legit the only competitive game we played outside of 30 min in Arizona.  I don't have much else to say about it because some people will blame everything besides Jones. With Taylor we at least look competent.  When Jones comes back we will go backwards, take 10 sacks a game and lose by 5 TDs. Then do it again next year while spending more picks on an OLine.

I think the locker room likes Jones, he works his ass off, but I really wonder if goin back to him would cause friction among players.
