Big Blue Huddle / Re: 2013 NFL draft, the worst ever?
October 27, 2023, 06:33:22 PM
This draft produced, Travis Kelce, DeAndre Hopkins Leveon Bell, David Bakhtiari, Darius Slay, Lane Johnson ect..
I'd argue the 2015 draft is worse. People just look at the first round and ignore the rest of the rounds.

Giants haven't had a good punt returner arguably since Dwyane Harris, Giants had Crowder, cut him and instead kept Shepard and other guys and now use Gray as the return man who scares me everytime I see him waiting to catch the kick/punt. He's just won special teams player of the week. I know in the whole picture, a return guy isn't a high priority compared to other concerns but wouldn't it be nice to have a reliable special teams player for a change? The whole Gray thing felt forced, as in 'We drafted him so we gotta find him some role on the roster.' I know Shepard is a veteran but I'd rather have Crowder actual contributing than simply rostering a guy for morale and leadership (much good that is doing). Oh yeah, we play him on Sunday...

I know Giamts fans like to blame everything on the OL and for some reason are always against drafting a QB but ;lets be real. If the Giants get the #1 pick and have the chance to draft Caleb Williams, you do it without a question. It be malpractice to not select a QB there. QB is the most important position in the sport and can turn a franchise around.  Do you think the Bengals regret drafting Burrow since they "didn't build a team around him yet"?  If we get the 6th pick and a OL is available, take him. If we get the #1 pick, take the QB. Simple as that.

Big Blue Huddle / Re: Can we talk about Joe Schoen too?
October 03, 2023, 10:53:49 PM
Fans still hate Gettleman yet Schoen is getting a huge pass. What player that he has acquired his first two years has made an actual impact on the team?  All of his OL additions have been busts, weapons haven't flourished, so why do people not give him blame yet?

McAdoo was the OC of an offense who was above average for 2 seasons and gave Eli 2 of his best statistical seasons, so him being a head coach I didn't see as a negative. Even though the offense struggled in 2016, they still made the playoffs. Things really unraveled in year 2, the team was horrible, the players quit and we went 3-13. It was a radical difference from year 1. .

Joe Judge was a wildcard hire in 2020. Even while going 6-10 everyone praised how hard they played and thought things were in the upswing. Fans for the most part loved Judge, loved his attituded and felt unity with the team. However like 2017, it was a radical changed, everyone now hated the head coach, he looked nothing like he did last year and everyone like McAdoo, wanted him fired. That after signing and drafting supposed new weapons in the offseason to bolster the offense.

Now with Daboll, makes the playoffs his first year, wins COTY then in year two, like in coaches past the team collapses. Again after the team acquires weapons in the offseason to bolster the offense. So why is it that when the first year looks promising, year 2 is always a collapse, even when on paper changes were done to improve the team? What happens in the offseason between years 1 and 2?

Didn't deter the Eagles from getting him and adding to their already dominant defense

Not citing some conspiracy that the NFL gave Carter to the Eagles but how teams allowed this ultra promising prospect to fall to one of the best teams in the NFL. People keep citing "character concerns" yet that didn't stop the Eagles from drafting him and making a great team even better. Eagles go to the Super Bowl and they draft Jalen Carter. The Giants have this miserable season and draft Thibs.

Quote from: DaveBrown74 on September 24, 2023, 06:40:19 PMThey lost both their starting corners that year (both all pro or at least pro bowl guys) and the D struggled. In just about every year he was there they were a top 5 NFL defense.
Their complaint was that he never adjusted. He kept blitzing, leaving unproven CB's in an island and gave up big plays all season.  Unless our young DB's actually come of age, things can get ugly if he doesn't change his approach.

Because no matter how many guys we sign, how many top OL we draft, we can never fix the OL. We only hit one guy, Thomas (Schmidt is trending up there), the rest are full of high draft picks, FA signings and still the line sucks. So what is it, why is it that this team with multiple coaches, tons of attempts to plug holes never get it fixed? Are we just hiring bad coaches that teach the OL? Other teams have competent OL's and they are never filled with all pros and perennial pro bowlers. The Eagles got a 7th round pick looking like a potential all pro, Patriots had Nate Soler looking like a solid starting OL. So is it coaching? Should we fire Johnson and hire a good OL coach?

Ravens fans complained about him after his last year with the team.
