Quote from: Philosophers on April 11, 2024, 01:50:34 PMIf you are Drake or JJ and you have a chance to play with Justin Jefferson, TJ Hockenson, Jordan Addison, etc vs Wan'Dale and Jalin, I have to think the decision is easy.

Exactly... so you have to set the stage first. No QB< DJ or any of these QBs who require a high pick can succeed behind a porous line and Receivers who can't get open quickly; neither would they want to come here and get their career ruined.

I would push to change the 4th to a 3rd, but would do it anyway... Ladd McConkey with that lower 1st,Plus DL Fiske or Robinson with the 2nd, RB Shipley with the 4th.. plus their 1 next year... vs a higher RATED wr. The answer is clear to me.

I do not have the eye for QB talent, mainly projecting what I see in college games to the next level, but the more I read or hear what experts say about these QB prospects, I feel stronger about not gambling on one of these questionable prospects with our 6th pick; trade back if there is interest, fill more holes and get more talents for the offense around DJ. If by the end of 2024 the O is still struggling and thus QB seems to be the main problem, then we can spend resources to address QB.

When I watched his tape in college, he seemed to be pretty good technically; however he looked to be physically on the smaller side and kind of weak, at least not muscular. So I agree that if he can bulk up a bit and spend time in the weight room, he should be able to visibly improve his game.

Quote from: MightyGiants on April 11, 2024, 09:02:13 AMThe salaries have nothing to do with inflation.  They are 48.5% of NFL revenue.  The increases are the result of the owners bleeding the fans dry with pay-per-view (being forced to subscribe to service) excessive night games, and other profit-making measures (which generally make the game worse)

It was kind of a joke... not a funny one apparently.

Quote from: AZGiantFan on April 09, 2024, 04:49:50 PMAs with 'SMART, TOUGH, DEPENDABLE' it's easy to say the words.  But it is executing them that counts.

I know... all nothing but clichés until the players buy into it and are able to deliver.

Quote from: MightyGiants on April 10, 2024, 08:47:48 AMIn 5 years, the QB will be approaching the $60-$70 million range.  It's sort of mind-boggling how these numbers keep skyrocketing.   It doesn't seem that long ago that QBs were at the top of the pyramid at $20 million and change a year.

....and they claim inflation is less than 8% per year!!

we could have drafted this guy one pick before instead of Jones!

A smart GM who is confident in his own ability to find talent in all rounds, with input from his fine scouts, will have a fuller draft board. He would look to accumulate more picks to have a better chance of hitting on later round hidden gems. That is how you build through the draft, not to throw away picks because your board is light, with less options.

Quote from: GloryDays on April 08, 2024, 04:49:33 PMThis man's size and talent on the field, plus our need to sure up our rush defense makes this pick in the 4th or 5th round worth the gamble.
Quote from: Philosophers on April 09, 2024, 07:35:32 AMHe's not falling to the 4th or 5th round.  No way with that talent.  Eagles took Carter in the first round.  This kid is 2nd round at worst.  Space eaters who clog up a middle and can free up their DL teammates are a premium.

Sweat was generally ranked as a second rounder before such a crippling draft news.. 5th may be too far, but fourth round is definitely where teams might take that chance.

Quote from: Jclayton92 on April 08, 2024, 07:20:04 PMThis class has zero depth, so trading back as opposed to getting a blue chip prospect would be a hard pill to swallow as you would like get significantly less in return.
I am a bit surprised... Do you think Ladd McConkey who is ranked in the 20s and 30s by draft media pundits, is that much below those top 3 WRs? or The OTs Fuaga and Latham, are much below Alt in ability?

I understand many here clearly want one of the top QB or WR prospects, but considering the number of holes we have to fill, plus the known failure stats of any pick, do you guys not see the value of trading back for more ammunition to fill the holes correctly? or is it because it takes at least two to trade, compared to just making the pick of one player being there at our turn?

i ENJOYED WHAT HE WROTE ABOUT LADD McConkey... this kid I believe will turn out to be the steal of the draft, and we could even trade back and take him around the 20 area!! Cosell says he has NO WEAKNESSES!

Quote from: Stringer Bell on March 29, 2024, 01:34:48 PMTrading down from 6 to 18 wouldn't net a 2nd and 3rd. Per the value chart, it would be a 2nd and pick swap in the 3rd. I'm not interested in moving down in 2 rounds just to get an extra second.

Stringer, most of the time, teams pay more than these charts say, to jump to a high position to grab a QB or a highly desired prospect that unexpectedly drops out of the top 5; nevertheless I dont know which chart you checked, but the trade value is more than a second and a third. According to this recent chart, the difference in 6th value to 18th is 700; the total of those seconds and third picks is 600... It actually calls for an additional 4th and 5th; so theoretically, if such opportunity presents itself, not only we can get a 2nd and a 3rd this year, but in order to leave the other team some draft ammunition this year, we could also ask and may be get a 3rd round pick next year.
