Name the last Super Bowl champion with a "good enough" starter. Maybe the Eagles with Foles a couple years ago, he kind of disappeared after that. I am not sure you can win these days with a dominating defense and just an OK offense. There are too many advantages the offense has.

This has been a bad season for QB injuries. I don't think that changes the math.

Big Blue Huddle / Re: McKinney gone?

Quote from: uconnjack8 on November 17, 2023, 04:59:23 PMMcKinney has been upset about not getting a contract extension since training camp.

My opinion is that he is a good safety not a great one and they don't want to pay a 2nd contract to a good safety.  It's one of the positions that good can be found on the 2nd day of the draft.

Exactly. He's not worth what he's asking, or they would have gotten it done already. He's a perfectly fine player but they can find a comparable player elsewhere for less than he wants. Schoen knows you can't hamstring yourself by giving out hometown premiums.

The comments about Wink and the dumbass accident last year don't help. You put up with those things from a superstar, not a good player.

This is wishful thinking from a NY media person, who is hoping this gets some buzz he can use on his show. The Bills aren't trading Josh Allen. He is a top 5 QB, and when you find one of those you build around him, not get rid of him. Trade him for what? The right to draft another guy, who you have no idea if he can play in NFL yet? Not happening.

What is happening up there in Buffalo is weird. The offensive coordinator is just the scapegoat for some bad luck. You need good luck to win a super bowl in this league, and McDermott has had none. Reid in Philly was the same way. Blowing it all up wouldn't make a ton of sense.

The Front Porch / Re: What are we watching these days?

The wife and I are about to finish "Bad Sisters" on Apple this weekend. Great show about four sisters plotting to kill the 5th sisters' horrible husband. Its a black comedy set in Ireland and was created and stars Sharon Horgan, who was in Catastrophe, which was also great.

Quote from: DaveBrown74 on November 17, 2023, 11:35:35 AMIf creating goofy videos with Kate Mara and Shaun O'Hara counts as working, then he "works" for them, but he I would not call it a serious "job" per se. I have no idea if he gets an actual paycheck but I sort of doubt it (albeit I have no idea). I think he comes and goes as he pleases and largely has minimal actual responsibility. I certainly don't think he sits in on serious meetings or anything like that.

I don't think he's picking players either. But he is employed by them, and he's definitely not going to say anything that Daboll / Schoen wouldn't say.

And right now, no one knows which way the admin is leaning so the company line is, Daniel Jones is the QB.

Quote from: TDToomer on November 17, 2023, 09:52:26 AMEli works for the Giants? In what capacity? The only employer that I know he currently has is ESPN.

He creates content for them, including the Eli Manning show: https://www.giants.com/video/elimanningshow

If this is available you don't think twice, which is why its pure fantasy. Buffalo would have to go insane from lead poisoning or something.

The answer is missing from your list:

Eli Works for the Giants and this Is the Team's Messaging.

No employee of the Giants is going to come out and say replace Jones until its done. For one thing, that points to tanking and a team would never admit or acknowledge that. Those STM renewal notes will be going out early next year.

And the Giants will be picking a QB next year. Jones has had two season ending injuries and two injuries to his neck. What's the mantra again? Smart, Tough, DEPENDABLE.

Big Blue Huddle / Re: Interesting point by Peter King

The issue is the lack of alternatives to drafting a QB high. No one is losing a decent QB to free agency and trading for one hamstrings the rest of the team.

Getting a great QB on a rookie contract is a lottery ticket that pays off in playoff contention. Even good GMs pick the wrong QBs. There are too many variables involved and good QBs aren't available every year.

Big Blue Huddle / Re: NGT: Aaron Rodgers
November 16, 2023, 09:35:09 AM
I don't give a crap what Aaron Rodgers says about the Giants or anything else.

Why would anyone talk about a 2-8 team that is not only bad, but boringly so? Everyone knows Daboll / Schoen are going to be here next year, so there is very little to talk about.

If the Jets are talked about more than the Giants, its because its hilarious the things that keep happening to them. They granted every one of Rodgers requests only to lose him after 4 plays. God hates the Jets.

Mel Kiper is a hairdo and very little else. If I was arsed to care, I'd look back on what he said about Josh Allen before they picked him 7, but its probably the same crap every one else was saying.

Big Blue Huddle / Re: Bob Papa on the Mara dynamics
November 14, 2023, 12:08:05 PM
Mara is clearly fond of Jones and has said things to that affect to the press. Does hearing that affect Schoen's decision?

Papa works for the Giants, but I would agree that he is not a rah rah guy. We listen to the postgame on the way home from every game. He praises them after a win, but he also rips them after losses.

We'll never know the extent of Mara's involvement unless someone like Judge comes out and talks about it, but the Maras have some juice in this league.

The problem is that the extension of Jones made sense, especially when you factor in front loading the contract. Unfortunately, it also can be seen as a compromise between what Schoen wanted (get rid of Jones) and what Mara wanted.

My warning (not to you; you already know) is: I do not see "that guy" and I'm assuming the Giants don't either.

While I appreciate that, I don't think we know what Schoen / Daboll think. I keep coming back to what happened in Buffalo. Josh Allen was seen as a flawed prospect with tools, and his pick at 7 was a surprise. The Buffalo admin thought it could make something out of him. There may be a similar guy coming out, and I am not sure we know.

Quote from: nicky1000 on November 13, 2023, 09:51:11 PMI love this post. All the guys who bailed on speaking with media and only Barkley continues to stand accountable. He may not be what folks hoped he'd be but he's a "glue" guy. Every team needs one and he can also be a playmaker. Imagine him in an offense with an actual passing game?

We all love Barkley, he is the ultimate team player. The issue is that he is not going to be cheap enough. The difference between a great RB and a good RB (in terms of production) is not enough to justify spending the additional cap room.

I'm not a big college football dude, so I won't have a strong opinion one way or another. But why isn't anyone talking about Jayden Daniels? Has LSU not played anyone? Dude's highlights are ridiculous. He put up 500 total yards by himself against Florida.

If we want insight into what Schoen / Daboll are likely looking for remember that Josh Allen was a physical freak with accuracy issues.
