Big Blue Huddle / Home field advantage.
November 03, 2023, 10:46:12 AM
The Giants/Jets game was, if I understand the 50 yard line and end zone logos, a home game for the New Jersey Giants. As the New Jersey Jets also play their home games in the same stadium, how was that determined?

Go, Big Blue!

Were it not for the number of players injured, the game against the Jets would have been a real knee-slapper. I came away hoping that none of the injuries would prove to be serious. I also came away hoping that the NFL draft pick system would work in the Giant's favor for next year.

Go, Big Blue.

Big Blue Huddle / Re: Taylor Makes Giants History
October 23, 2023, 07:32:10 AM
The Giants looked like a real NFL team yesterday. Mr. Tyrod Taylor earned the right to lead Big Blue into battle against the New Jersey Jets. What looked like a blowout a couple of weeks ago [Giants vs Jets] may well be the game not to miss next week. The Giant's chances will look even better if they can reduce the flags.

Go, Big Blue!

What does it profit an NFL player to try to make a play in a way that might cause a career-ending injury while playing for a team such as the New Jersey Giants? NFL players are not lacking in the smarts department.

Regards, stay safe 'n well.

Go, Big Blue! [Ed.: But cautiously, right?]

Quote from: DaveBrown74 on October 09, 2023, 07:31:34 AMMets won 101 games the season before last and have been in the World Series in the past 7 or 8 years. This past season was bad but they're hardly in the Giants league of ineptitude. The Giants have basically become the Jets in my opinion, although not this year obviously (Jets are light years better).

Hi, DaveBrown74!

The Mets have been around for 62 seasons. They have made it to the playoffs 10 times and won the World Series twice. They certainly have had their moments, and that's the truth. At the present time, they're at least a mid-level team, with the possibility of better seasons ahead. The Giants this year, though, are a lower level team at best. I've followed them since the days of Charlie Conorly, and rarely seen them perform this poorly, to be honest. Again,  I've hopes for the future, but certainly not this year.

That said, I'll continue to watch both teams, enjoying those moments when an end grabs a perfectly thrown pass or a line backer pulls a Sam Huff. [We lost a great one there.]

Regards, and thanks for the chat!

Big Blue Huddle / Re: Week 6.

Hi, Bob in PA.

I've followed the good and bad years of Big Blue from the days of Charlie Conerly. Along the way, thanks to the G.I. Bill, I picked up a classical education and a deep love and respect for our marvelously malleable language. You've seen the result.

There are better days ahead for the Giants, just not this year, I'm afraid. We can still savor those plays in every game where things work right and cheers are in order.  They will happen midst the turnovers and fumbles.

Bright, cool days enthrall.
Cheers erupting from packed stands.
NFL football.

Regards, and best wishes to you and yours.

Big Blue Huddle / Week 6.
October 12, 2023, 09:11:37 AM
We New Yorkers can, if statistics are any guide at all, look forward to the New Jersey Giants and the New Jersey Jets carving another loss into their record. The scorekeepers will record it and get set for Week 7. There's an appropriate verse from the Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam, by Edward Fitzgerald:

"The Moving Finger writes; and, having writ,
Moves on: nor all thy Piety nor Wit
Shall lure it back to cancel half a Line,
Nor all thy Tears wash out a Word of it."

"Nother week in the season as the two teams play out the string.

Regards to all. j

There's little to say other than to ask where the Giants stand in the race for 1st draft pick. It's going to be a long, cold winter in Jersey Giant Land.

Go, Big Blue!

The New Jersey Giants have become the NFL's equivalent of the New York Mets in MLB. You watch an individual game to see if the team's going to surprise you with a new way to lose.

Big Blue is a Thursday's child.

Regards.

Quote from: DaveBrown74 on October 03, 2023, 08:44:02 AMYup.

I don't know if you're into winter sports, but the Rangers and Knicks at least offer a competitive, playoff caliber product. I'm looking forward to the starts of their seasons at this point.

Hi! Don't forget the Liberty. Another bright spot in NY sports. But as far as football and baseball goes, we in the Big Apple are left with the old Brooklyn Dodger's fan comment: "Wait 'til next year!"

Regards, and remember what was left in Pandora's box.

For us New Yorkers, the rest of the season for the New Jersey Giants and the New Jersey Mets is a bleak playing out of the string. We do have a New York NFL team with prospects of a good season -- the Buffalo Bills.

What we can do, as far as the Giants and Jets are concerned, is lay in a good supply of snacks and brews and settle back. There will be some knee-slapping scrambles for the ball now and then and, once in a while, an individual play which comes up to the best NFL standards. Other than that? Nada. The season's over.

Regards, all.
