Quote from: katkavage on October 29, 2023, 02:41:51 PMJones will be back next week.

There's a really good chance he won't be back this year at all, let alone next week. The weakness in his left arm is indicative of nerve damage. That doesn't heal quickly and they've already said he won't be back until it is completely healed.

How does one team suffer so many injuries to key players year after year. It's baffling.

Remember when he had a better grade his rookie year than Thomas and the MY media were saying that Thomas was a bust. Good times.

Quote from: Bob In PA on October 28, 2023, 09:09:20 AMMadB: I agree with that, so IMO we must assume it's a true statement, or at least Wink believes it's true.

If Wink's happy with his play, then I think it's safe to assume they are not emphasizing sacks.

I also agree with that. Pressure is more important than sacks, unless the specific game situation makes a sack more important, like, for example, if you need to move the opponent out of field goal range to avoid a game-winning field goal attempt.

Bob

I think too many fans are either concerned with style points or expected him to be Von Miller or Micah Parsons and disappointed, and I think too many people are concerned with what he isn't instead of appreciating what he is.

Quote from: Ed Vette on October 27, 2023, 01:04:19 PMDraft capital and Cave for Caleb?

Our chances of drafting Caleb approach zero. He's going to be a Bear, and even if they were willing to trade that pick I don't think Mara will have the stomach to pay what they're going to ask for.

Wink doesn't strike me as being that type of coach. You get love from him when you earn it.

According to Wink Martindale Thibs is the cog that drives this defense. Doesn't sound like he shares the same opinion of Thibs that many here do.

Quote from: brownelvis54 on October 26, 2023, 01:33:17 PMCant help but wonder how long the Giants keep Azeez Ojulari on the roster

I will say this. There was a reason why he was a first round talent who lasted till the second round and that was his injury history. We took a shot and lost. I don't mind that one nearly as much as the others.

Quote from: katkavage on October 26, 2023, 11:53:29 AMOne name answers the question in your first sentence. John Mara. He's the man behind the man behind the man.

You can add Chris Mara and Tim McDonnell to that list. If they weren't direct descendants of Wellington Mara there is a zero percent chance that they would have risen to their rank and kept their jobs despite a proven track record of sheer incompetence.

How can one organization be so bad for so long. You could come up with groupings based on projected rounds and throw darts at it to make the pick and still out perform that draft.
#462
And we wonder why we've been stuck in reverse the last decade.

Neal should move inwards not to the opposite side of the line. I question his foot speed and moving him to the left side isn't what this team needs. Despite his height I think he could be an excellent guard.

Quote from: Philosophers on October 24, 2023, 12:51:07 PMThe NCAA went soft on those teams I listed.  You know it.  How many years of bowl eligibility and scholarships lost did Clemson receive?

I dont see why most of the things Harbaugh did would be violations anyway.  If most 5 star recruits are located in the South, why can't a Northern school set up a satellite camp in GA?  He came up with idea and nobody else thought of it.

NCAA went after Harbaugh for paying for a hamburger for a recruit.  Give me a F!cking break.

NCAA has a h!ard on for him when Jimbo Fisher, Tennessee and other programs are paying recruits just to visit, promising NIL money before a recruit is a player, etc.

Michigan has been one of the 2-3 most successful programs in the country the past few years yet maybe they get lucky and sign 1 five star recruit in a class when less successful programs sign 4-5 year in/out.  What do you think is going on there?

Soft? Most of those teams lost scholarships, were forced to vacate wins and weren't bowl eligible for a couple years. Nothing has even happened to Michigan yet. Might want to see what the punishment is before pitching a fit. The fact is they violated the rules. If you can't do the time then don't commit the crime.

Quote from: Philosophers on October 24, 2023, 12:07:20 PMExactly.

Ryan Day complains about Clemson's sign stealing. No NCAA investigation.

Urban Meyer has a donestic abuser on his staff at Ohio State, in addition to the strings he pulled for players in Florida to keep them from being in trouble with the law. No NCAA investigation.

Auburn pays Cam Newton to play for them. Cam's dad says "Hey, I took the money." Cam claims ignorance. No further NCAA investigation.

Tennessee's "bagman" rumors are voiced loudly. No NCAA investigation.

Not long after the Nassar incident, Dantonio and Izzo have a SPECIAL on ESPN run about the shenanigans at MSU regarding players and their behavior. No NCAA investigation.

You realize that all those teams you mentioned have ended up on NCAA probation? Hell, even lowly Wisconsin ended up on NCAA probation because a local shoe store extended credit to football players. They don't play favorites. Every major program over the past 30 years have ended up on probation at some point. USC, OU, Texas, LSU, Florida, FSU, Miami, UGA, OSU, etc. The only school I think has escaped their wrath is Notre Dame.

I don't think sign stealing is a big issue but when you look at Harbaugh's willingness to test the boundaries (football recruiting road camps, sleep overs at a recruits house, violating Covid recruiting rules) it's unlikely the NCAA is going to cut Michigan slack. IMHO the penalty won't fit the crime but it's the NCAA's way of telling Harbaugh it's time to head back to the NFL without mandating it.
