Guys like McFadden keep reminding me that sometimes you just have to be patient with younger players. They all don't transition smoothly to the NFL year one. At the end of last year I thought I had seen enough and that we still had a major hole next to Okereke but after seven weeks I am fairly certain that at the least he'll be a solid pro.

Quote from: DaveBrown74 on October 23, 2023, 09:43:08 PMI agree that he's going to jump ship after the season. I think the NCAA may try to get Michigan on the hook before the end of the season.

The NCAA should follow the NFL and put a speaker in the quarterback's helmet. Problem solved. I don't think it's as big a deal as the media is making it out to be, but it's clear Jim isn't shy about pushing the regs to their breaking point and the NCAA has problems with guys like that.

I think Harbaugh will be on an NFL sideline next year and it will be by his own choice. I get the sense he's growing weary of NCAA rules and I'm sure the NCAA is growing tired of him.

That's fine too.

Quote from: MightyGiants on October 23, 2023, 08:32:58 AMThe Giants need to find some RBs as half their RB corps was injured yesterday (Gray and Brightwell), leaving only Barkley and Breda

They could also use a proper punt returner, although that will be more challenging as the WR room is full (thanks to the decision to keep Shepard on the roster) so ideally, the punt returner is a RB or perhaps a DB.

I'd rather see them sell than buy. If you're talking about signing free agents that's one thing but giving up capital for anyone this year makes no sense.

You mean Simmons?

Quote from: katkavage on October 22, 2023, 04:06:05 PMHate to say this, Rivera has out coached Daboll.

100% not Daboll's fault that Shepard and Barkley turned the ball over. Without those two turnovers we win either 17-0 or 21-0. Don't know how you can say Daboll has been out coached.

Quote from: DaveBrown74 on October 22, 2023, 12:36:49 PMFair enough and thank you for clarifying.

I will admit, the trope was not THAT funny. I honestly posted it more because of the Dak thing than anything else, but in any event it wasn't exactly Trading Places or Wedding Crashers on the humor scale.

And good point that people in general are too reactionary with the week to week QB stuff. I agree with that comment.

Barring something very unexpected, Williams is going number one in the draft. That was clear last season, it was clear in the offseason, and it is still clear today. I have said here that I don't think the Mahomes comparisons for him are off-base, and I still feel that way.

Just to clarify I mistakenly left not out. I meant to say not directed at you.

Quote from: DaveBrown74 on October 22, 2023, 12:00:07 PMMy posting of it was not meant to be anything more than a lighthearted, non-serious jab for the rut he is in. It gave me a mild chuckle given it included a QB on a hated rival team of ours. I am fully aware of how talented a quarterback Caleb Williams is. You don't need to be a football savant to know that. He has been on my radar since 2021. The post wasn't meant to be taken overly seriously or to cause such a vitriolic reaction. I'll try harder to assume nobody has any sense of humor at all here moving forward.

Don't take it personally. My annoyance was directed at you but rather the chattering masses who love to try and tear down a great player instead of respecting that he is very likely to be the second two time Heisman trophy winner.

Quote from: uconnjack8 on October 22, 2023, 10:43:40 AMWhat is the meme supposed to mean?

I will say, I watched almost the entire Notre Dame game and the defense was not the only problem.  3 INTs in the 1st half was not helpful.  Given his offense was completely outclassed by the ND D

The meme is that he looks good when it counts but like Prescott he disappears against good teams. He looked like crap against Notre Dame, so what? Every quarterback has a really bad game here and there.

We watch this same thing happen every year. The top quarterback prospect goes through a period where every aspect of his game is picked apart and even one small flaw is blown completely out of proportion and everything else is discounted.

IMHO he's the best quarterback prospect since Peyton Manning, and he might be better because he can pull the ball down and run. His stats this year are silly. Outside the Notre Dame game he has one int on the season and has accounted for 30 touchdowns and with five games to go he could surpass 45.

None of this has anything to do with you. I just hate the let's tear a great player down for no reason.

Quote from: uconnjack8 on October 22, 2023, 08:40:19 AMHave to admit, I dont get this one

It's just f-ing stupid meme. USC is averaging an ungodly 47 points per game this year. They lost the last two games because their defense sucks. It has nothing to do with Williams.

Looks like someone is already trying to scare some owners off hoping he drops to them. Lol. I'd file this under stuff that never happened but somehow made it to the public, or he's got a rep that isn't really a rep who's looking to make a name for himself.

Quote from: Gman329 on October 20, 2023, 07:52:59 AMDo we know the extent of Schmitz shoulder injury?  I've heard nothing since he went out.

They never said what it was but if I had to guess he sprained his ac joint. It's an educated guess based on how it was injured and the fact that he isn't on the IR.

Quote from: DaveBrown74 on October 19, 2023, 05:56:13 PMIs it just me or is it not normal to at least have an estimated return for every injured player?

Such as "day to day" or "three to five weeks"?

I honestly have no clue what's going on with Thomas. And I don't see why this cloak and dagger stuff helps anyone or hurts opponents. That feels like Joe Judge type logic to me.

Hamstring injuries are the devil. They tend to linger and the odds of re-injuring are quite high. Putting a date on it is an exercise in futility.

Quote from: Sem on October 17, 2023, 08:15:19 PMBroken or dislocated toe, torn tendon, whatever, it doesn't matter I'm sure it's painful. Why should he have to walk back in to get it x-rayed when there's a cart for that very reason.

Wife and I were watching Welcome to Wrexham and their goalie dislocated his wrist and was carried off on a stretcher. Wife rolled her eyes and said he's got two perfectly good legs. I will never dog an American football player for being taken off with an injury. When the cart comes out you know that player is in agony.
