We finally got around to watching "CODA" the other day.

I would give it a B+, and my wife agrees. Very solid, plenty of good acting, and engaging throughout. In my personal opinion, for it to have won Best Picture at the Oscars feels like a bit of a reach to me, but maybe it was a weak year for movies. I thought it was definitely very good but not some all time cinematic achievement.

Same here, got it in three attempts. Seemed easy after the last few. Maybe the Times got complaints...LOL

Ditto. Not one of their more challenging ones today.

I heard reports that they asked Will to leave but he refused.  If that's true, that is why I am good with 10 (5 for the slap and 5 for refusing to leave)

Those reports seem murky. Initially it was reported that he was asked to leave and refused. Then that seemed to be amended or at least differing reports came out. Sounds like it was something they discussed but it's unclear if anyone actually asked Will Smith to leave.

In any event, whether it happened or not, I don't have a problem with the decision.

Does this "ban" mean he is just not allowed to attend future shows, or does it also mean he will be ineligible to receive awards during this 10 year period?

At this point I think there is basically zero chance this was fake. Better chance in my mind that the Apollo moon landing was fake.

Sounds fair to me

Oh and I thought SNL was hilarious

I actually thought five years would be where they landed but I have no objection to 10. What he did was pretty outrageous, and if he doesn't get sued or charged with any sort of crime he should consider himself lucky. Sorry but you can't just physically assault people.

Agreed on the SNL skit; amusing.

Today was a four-bagger for me, but I feel like that was a very good result as it was another relatively less common word. I had a fortunate guess in the 3-hole which really helped me.

I feel like they have definitely raised the difficulty level of the words in the past few weeks.

I found today challenging. Took me six.

Going back and revisiting this thread, I was going to use any of the 'color names' from Reservoir Dogs. I used Mr White in the other thread on movie character names.
Just a terrific movie with that marvelous cast. Michael Madson and his little dance with Stuck In The Middle With You playing is incredible. Didn't know whether to laugh, gasp or turn away as he is carving that guy up.

What a crazy scene. Madsen's character in that is a pure nut case.

And? Lol. The consequence is what actually.

Not much.

Although we're talking about someone with an ego the size of Texas, so being considered a complete XXXXX by most of the country can't be that enjoyable.

I know about sous vide but I have never actually done it. Maybe I'll consider it, although I'm not at all dissatisfied with the traditional methods of cooking a steak.

Personal favorite cut?

I seldom have a nicely cooked steak I don't like, but my personal favorite is NY strip. Medium rare with a nice crust.

Will Smith resigns from the Academy. His personal statement is in the below link.

Irrespective of anyone's views on the degree to which Smith deserves condemnation, if it wasn't clear already, I think by now we can all agree that this event definitely was not staged.

Very nice looking piece of meat!

I have not done a lot of reverse sears. Are there any advantages to that?

Not Randall McMurphy or Jack Torrance? Old Jack played so many intriguing characters.

Forgot about McMurphy but he is certainly worthy.

Torrance is too, no doubt. You can pick from a lot with Nicholson. Chinatown and Departed are in the discussion too.
