Big Blue Huddle / Re: We Are Losing Perspective

Quote from: Painter on October 11, 2023, 08:43:56 PMI debated beginning this thread, a rarity for me in any case, by saying "As usual" I figured there was no point in stating the obvious. With more than two-thirds of the season yet to be played it is simply too soon to indulge our biases and personal conceits by second-guessing the front office, coaches and/or players.

That's not to suggest that we shouldn't be surprised and disappointed and wondering why. What I am suggesting, however, is that the central issue is the same as it was before the season began which is whether or not Daniel Jones, not can be or will be, but is the Giants Quarterback of the future. And what does that mean? It means capable of winning a Lombardi whether likely or not as was so with Eli whose career Regular Season numbers have been described, arguably and I think unfairly, as "profoundly mediocre"

Quite unfortunately, a fair and proper determination re Jones cannot and should not be made under current circumstances which involves having had and still having to play behind the league's worst Oline (30 sacks, 100 pressures in 5 games). That's not just inadequate, it is totally unacceptable given the absence of Thomas and Schmitz not to mention Barkley for who knows when.

Thus, unless and until as the season progresses, there is significant improvement in that one regard, we won't have had just a losing season but a wasted season going forward. An unhappy outcome for sure and more than just unimagined, unexpected, and unfortunate for Schoen and Daboll.

Cheers! or better yet, À votre santé

Larry,

This is an outstanding post.  I think you should debate starting threads less and starting threads more.  This is the sort of high quality content we strive for, well done  :ok:

Today was Justin Pugh's first practice in full pads. He took reps with the scout team O-line today. He said his knee feels great, but he said it will be important to gauge how he feels tomorrow.

"If I can play, obviously I would love to do that. That's up to coach, the training staff — it's not just me."

Quote from: DaveBrown74 on October 11, 2023, 01:56:02 PMAssistant coaches have to face the media all the time, including if not especially when their unit is struggling. How come Ronnie Barnes never has to do a press conference?

I would love to interview Ronnie Barnes.

Quote from: Philosophers on October 11, 2023, 02:12:53 PMWhy only a 4th for McKinney?  Came off a good and is young.  No contract issue either.  He's worth more and they could get it.

Here was my thinking-  McKinney is a free agent at the end of the season, so this is more a rental than trading for an asset.   McKinney hasn't looked special since 2021 when he played well under Patrick Graham.  If I give up a pick for the rental, how can I be sure he will learn my system quickly enough and then play at a level that makes a higher pick worth it?

Quote from: andrew_nyGiants on October 11, 2023, 12:52:05 PMWith all this talk around lack of protection and unmet potential along the OL....Whose calling out the OL Coach?!!

Why does it seem like he's getting a pass?

Where is the talk around other candidates for the role?

If I'm making personnel decisions, my sites are set squarely on him.

Am I wrong?

Andrew,

Barring a miraculous turnaround, I think Bobby is a dead man walking and will be fired at the end of the season.   I think there is little value in firing him now.

Quote from: Philosophers on October 11, 2023, 01:45:04 PMHow deep in the depths are the Giants that they have to consider a player who tore 3 of his 4 knee ligaments and is only 9 months out of surgery?

It's pretty much how it's been for about a decade.   @Dumpster Dan got his nickname years ago.   I used to accuse him of dumpster diving because he was always bringing the names of offensive linemen cut/released from other teams.  That seems to be the life of a Giants fan; we are always looking in other teams' trash bins, hoping to find offensive line treasure.
