Is anyone following this story? It is obviously terrible, but it is also very mysterious. All kinds of possibilities about what may have happened here.

Long story short:

Rich family in South Carolina, with the father being a prosecutor. Son (22) is seemingly a bit of a bad seed or at least black sheep type. He was already in trouble for the wrongful death of a girl who was with him when he was driving a boat drunk. He also may have been involved in a hit and run death. Several months ago, he and his mother were gunned down at their property. The just the other day the father was shot in the head (but somehow survievd) on a secluded road not too far from their home. There are all kinds of theories going around about who may have been behind the killings and the attempted murder of the father the other day. Pretty wild story. I am curious to hear if anyone has any theories.

There are plenty of articles on this story if you just do a google search of "Murdaugh family", but here is one from the other day:

This is what we are dealing with

A woman reveals to the Greenville, SC School Board tonight that she has uncovered a plot by the CDC to shut down schools and turn them into Nazi-style concentration camps, where children will be taken away from their parents, and couples separated from each other. pic.twitter.com/AZjEY70GGv
— Ron Filipkowski (@RonFilipkowski) August 25, 2021

I know all of this is a serious discussion and that is not lost on me, but I found this to be hysterical.

As the author noted, these are the preventative measures that everyone should include:

 • Get vaccinated
 • Weara mask
 • Distancing, work from home
 • Avoid indoor spaces wherever possible
 • Avoid dense crowds, both indoors and outdoors
 • Get a booster shot (when it is available in the U.S.; Israel is already administering them officially)
 • Use HEPA air purifiers / filters
 • Use at-home covid tests before socializing
 • Use delivery services
 • Stock up on food, first aid supplies / medicines, etc. (In case of infection/illness)

When you say "everyone", who do you mean exactly? Do you mean everyone who is middle class and up?

If you actually mean everyone, I would like to know how poor or even paycheck-to-paycheck people are supposed to do the vast majority of these suggestions.

The Front Porch / Re: Anyone been to the Caribbean?
August 21, 2021, 05:15:47 AM
Squibber,

My faily and I have been to many different places in the Caribbean over the years and are big fans.

Our favorite island is probably Anguilla. The beaches there are magnificent, which is a huge factor for us, and I would also say the food is way above average. Food in general in the Carib is touch and go, as is the service, but Anguilla is very solid on both fronts. There are plenty of great places to stay there at different price ranges.

Another island we like a lot is Turks and Caicos. It has a drier climate than most of the other islands, which is very nice. We splurged when we went there and stayed in the Aman resort for a few days. Man was that nice, but the bill at the end was ugly. There are definitely cheaper options on that island that are still very nice.

Other places we have been: St. Maarten, Antigua, British Virgin Gorda. All of these are good options as well. The food was pretty bland in British Virgin Gorda, but it was beautfiul there.

Overall the Caribs are great. To have that kind of experience just a few hours from the Northeast is a huge asset. These trips can definitely get expensive, but if you're strategic in how you plan the trip they don't have to be too bad.

Even better, we have video footage of your boy Donny where he says, " I don't even wait, I just move in and start kissing, grabbing her by the pussy, moving on women like the bitches they are! Cuomo resigned but your rapist pal stayed in office and you still support the guy, that is very sad indeed.

There is a difference between a man boasting to another giggling man about past interactions with nameless, faceless women and a chorus of women coming forward, identifying themselves, and accusing a man in a position of power of inappropriate and possibly illegal activity. Especially when the boasting man is known by everyone to be a pathological liar who always makes things up.

I don't have a super strong opinion on this, because I frankly don't know enough about the comparative science between being vaxed and just having had the virus, both from a strength of antibodies standpoint as well as from a longevity standpoint. I will say however, that in practical terms it sounds pretty messy to start having provisions for people who have had covid but haven't been vaxed. What happens if they had covid 6 months earlier and still aren't getting vaxed? 8 months? It just seems like that system would be incredibly messy and cumbersome, and when you're dealing with huge numbers of people (in fact the entire population), you kind of want to make things as seamless as you can.

You are not allowed in school without a measles shot, and there are several other vaccines that all school-age children MUST have in order to attend a public school, so why aren't these same parents protesting the measles vaccine?

The misguided answer they would give you to that question is that the measles vaccine wasn't "rushed through" the testing and approval process haphazardly.

I'm a huge fan of Lasorda. There are a lot of great sound bites like this out there. His angry response when asked what he thought of Dave Kingman's three home run performance against his team is hysterical as well.

Slugs, luv these detailed Camp reports. =D>

Agreed. Great stuff, thanks Slugs.

The offense is certainly worrying. Scary now that Jones gets praised for simply not throwing any picks in a given day.

The O line got used and abused yesterday... very concerning. If this O line is a disaster again, you're going to see a number of people get fired at the end of the season, if not sooner.

Love the positive stuff on Holmes and (especially) Williams, who is looking more and more like the find of this draft. Can't wait to see him in a game.

Going back to my earlier point about how people are very split on this subject overall, so far in this thread, by my count we have four votes for LZ and three for PF. It really is split, or pretty close to it....

Zeppelin for me, and it's not even close (despite the fact that I spent much of ages 14 through 41 as a keyboard player in part- and full-time rock bands). Not dissing Pink Floyd, just professing a strong preference. Bob

Same here.

It's a lively debate though. If you took a huge poll of many fans, you'd get close to a 50/50 response I think.

It is debated in great detail in this thread that I found while browsing online. Some excellent and interesting points made in some of these comments. Well worth purusing at your leisure if you have time and are interested in the subject:

Both iconic. Both excellent. Having to choose one over the other I'll take Pink Floyd. I think there is more of a variety in their songs and I love Gilmour's playing.

I love Gilmour too. Talk about a talent.

Pink Floyd's music is hauntingly beautiful. It creates a mood in a way that Led Zeppelin doesn't (which isn't a knock on LZ but more of a strength of PF). There is no doubt about that. I actually find Zeppelin's music more varied overall, so your comment about variety was interesting to me. Maybe I'm forgetting about some of Floyd's songs.

I like both bands so it's a tough choice but like you I would probably give the nod to the Zeppelin. As far as bands go I am more of a blues rock guy which is probably why I picked Led Zeppelin. My favorites are the Allman Brothers and Clapton but it's tough as Jeff Beck and Santana are high on my list as well. Of the new guys I like Derek Trucks the most followed by Kenny Wayne Sheppard Marcus king and Joe Bonamassa

Love Allman Bros as well. One of the best shows I ever went to for any band was seeing them at the Beacon Theater in NYC. Fantastic.
