Quote from: Jclayton92 on April 16, 2023, 04:15:20 PMThe Diplomat starring Keri Russell from the Americans FX tv show drops Tuesday from the creator the west wing and Homeland. It's supposed to be good.
5 episodes in, it's a fun watch but it kind of falls between two stools.
It's comedic (a less sweary Veep) in places but the tone/plot is designed, I think, to be more serious.

The PM and President are obviously based on Johnson and Biden.

Worth a go around.

Quote from: kartanoman on April 19, 2023, 01:06:41 PMWow, what an inspirational thread! Just turned 54, a bit of a nervous number in that I've lost a number of friends, colleagues, as well as my older brother, at that age. But I've done due diligence last year with check-ups, brain scans, MRIs of my spine, etc. because of the multiple head trauma I experienced during my goalkeeping years on the soccer field. Next month, I'm having a total knee replacement for my left knee, same leg I had complications from Achilles surgery compounded by past ankle fractures which have rendered it an arthritic minefield. Hoping the bionic knee will stabilize my gait some. In turn, the lower back issues which stemmed from all this I hope will be mitigated by my ability to exercise with less pain.

Getting older (NOTE I didn't say old) doesn't mean you are old. I think how the Weezer characterized his dad says it all. If you've still got it between the ears, and think and experience life, even if you're body can't do what it used to, you're still young at heart.

Jackie Gleason cited a quote when he was doing his roller skating skit on The Honeymooners when he said, "It's too bad youth is wasted on young people." Only Audrey Meadows could provide the perfect response, as his dedicated wife Alice, by saying, "You know, Ralph? I don't even mind growing old, just as long as I grow old with you." To which Ralph, in his famous words, replies, "Baby, you're the greatest!"

Peace!
A fellow goalie.......thankfully my keeping career has only left me with some crowns and bridging work.
It was always my dental health that suffered most.....

We have a winner.

I'm pleased everyone collectively kept their minds out of the sewer.

Quote from: Bill Brown on March 08, 2023, 04:16:07 PMI'll be 75 next month. I'll say I am in reasonable good health. For awhile when my back hurt or my knees ached etc. I would say getting old sucks but at some point I realized that getting old is great. I think about a lot of my friends who are no longer with us but for some reason I'm still here watching my 7 year old grandson growing up. And for that I am grateful.

Bill

I turn 60 in July, I lost my best bud when he was 43.
He was 4 days older than me (a fact I never let him forget?).

Turned out he'd been a high functioning alcoholic for about a decade and none of us had ever known.
His liver, and assorted other organs, simply stopped working.
I was always the piss head, the amount of times he got me home in one piece or stopped me getting into nonsense......

Anyway, point is you're spot on. Growing old is f-ing brilliant, I know far too many who haven't had the chance.

Enjoy every sandwich.

OK.
This one tells me how dirty a mind you have.

What goes in dry, comes out wet and,  if used properly, can satisfy two people?

Quote from: Jolly Blue Giant on March 08, 2023, 12:32:49 PMGene Hackman (one of my favorite actors) has lived like a recluse for the last decade or so. Here he is at 93 and a picture taken by the paparazzi that makes me sad. My Dad made it to 94 and that made me sad to see how such a strong man can deteriorate to a shadow of who he was

If I'm cutting about in jeans getting a coffee and a snack under my own steam at 94, I'll take that right now.

Its a bit different here in the UK (I really don't understand how this "registered" stuff works) but I am wholly unaligned to any political party.
I have a core set of beliefs, and some beliefs I'm give and take/big picture on.

So I'll look for a party that comes close to them and vote accordingly.

On occasion, that involves drawing genitalia on the ballot paper because they're all a shower of crap.

Girls don't like slacker piss heads.
Took me far too long to work that one out.

We're all missing the bigger picture here.

Does this mean Will Smith is moving with his auntie and uncle in Bel-Air?

Magic: Talk about coincidence.... just today, before I came here, I ordered a bottle of the Gold Reserve "Game Of Thrones" edition... I wanted to see if it is the same or different than the "regular" Gold Reserve. LOL Bob
Great  minds Bob!

Jolly: I feel obligated to explain my previous note to Magic Rat.  I was not suggesting that my comment was the end of this (wine) thread.  He wondered where the malt whiskey thread is.....

I was feigning a belief that "Pinch" (known as "The Dimple" everywhere but in the USA) is the best... and suggesting in jest that the mere mention of Pinch would mark the end of the whiskey discussion.

Although I do like Pinch a lot, I don't think it is considered by connoisseurs to be in the class of something like Aberlour 16 (for example) or other more familiar "top shelf" whiskies.

Bob

PS. And I apologize for going off-topic.

You know, I've never tried the dimple/pinch but, I'm aware that it's a blend rather than a malt.....being a pedant here!

But you're on the money with Aberlour, the 16 is a special occasion drink, but the 10 and 12 year old are a nice dram also.

If you like a Speyside malt you should try the Cardhu, Gold Reserve. That's my current fav.

I'm no expert, but I'm very partial to a nice red.

My usual go-to is South American.
Primarily a nice Chilean or Argentinian Malbec.
I like a full bodied red.

Now, when are we getting a malt whisky thread........
