Big Blue Huddle / Re: New "Rumors"

Quote from: MightyGiants on April 24, 2024, 08:57:32 AMA commentary like this reminds me of a slightly modified old quote-  Draft rumors are like buttholes.  Everyone has one, and they usually stink.

The last part of that quote is "...and they all stink except your own "

Those last 2+ minutes were wild.  Numerous chances to clear the puck and couldn't do it. D pair (Trouba and Schneider?) we're on for the entire time and running on fumes at the end.

I expect Caps to come out blazing in game 3 so NYR better be prepared for the onslaught. For all intents and purposes the season will be on the line for Washington

Quote from: Jclayton92 on April 18, 2024, 02:00:58 PMPatriots just announced they were open for buisness at pick 3. If that is true then one of the top 4 likely falls in our lap.

Assuming the team moving up to 3 takes a QB, that means they'll be one left and 2 selections before us. In such a scenario I think it's more likely someone tries to grab QB 4 at the two slots before us. But who knows...all will be revealed in a week

Caps top Flyers to snag last WC spot and face Blueshirts in first round. While watching Caps celebrate I noticed that Dylan McIlrath was part of the pile.  Much ballyhooed first round choice of Rangers about 15 years ago who never came close to living up to the billing

Actually I think Gifford complaint was refs denied him a first down with a bad spot.  It was a third down run on which Gino Marchetti broke his leg on the tackle and Gifford believed the commotion on the field led to refs marking him short. So instead of a first down, NYG punted the ball back to Colts with a little over 2 minutes to. Unitas leads them to a tying FG with seconds left in regulation and the rest is history

Giants QBS...more ##it factor than it factor

Maybe I'm mistaken but didn't Slater play a lot of RT while at Northwestern?

Agree entirely but I was simply responding to the scenario posed by Painter

Quote from: DaveBrown74 on April 12, 2024, 05:24:08 PMI know most have made up their minds they don't like Drake Maye, but I guess I am in the minority on him. I'd be extremely excited if he became a Giant.

I don't know but from what I've read, I'm left with the impression that both Maye and McCarthy are equally polarizing. If Schoen and Co. take a QB at 6 (regardless of who) I would be excited for the future and pray to God they got the right guy

Quote from: Painter on April 12, 2024, 12:16:46 PMI don't think it really matters because as I see it, Schoen and Co have no intention to trade up. Moreover, even if McCarthy is still available at 6- the other 3 won't be- I'm not at all sure, they will roll the dice in his favor.

The 3 teams still speculated as trade-up for a QB candidates are: Vikings at 11, Broncos at 12, and Raiders at 13. If one of them feels that it would be worth such a major investment to achieve immediate competitiveness, then it would seem that its target would be either Daniels or Maye at earlier than the Giants 6th overall.

And so, that begs the (my) question, would one of them otherwise make an offer to Our Heroes to get McCarthy? And if so, would Schoenco- reminds me of a Tight End- be interested? My wag is only if it allowed them to still get Nabers or Odunze. Otherwise, Niet!

Cheers!

In my opinion, moving out of top 10 almost assures missing out on one of the top WRs.

Here's Kurt Warner's take on the QBs and what he looks for when evaluating them.  While not as " provocative" as the Hoge quote, he too seems leery of Maye.  Though he doesn't come right out with one, I'm guessing his ranking would be Williams,Daniels,Penix, Nix, McCarthy, Maye

I'm guessing Hoge doesn't think much of the Carolina QB

𝗧𝗥𝗘𝗡𝗗𝗜𝗡𝗚: Former #NFL fullback Merril Hoge says that Drake Maye will cost the job of whoever drafts him, via athlonsports.

"Drake Maye is the kind of player that will get you fired. Especially if you draft him in the top five or top three, he's going to get you fired. His last game was probably the most embarrassing display I've seen from a guy who is supposed to be an elite franchise quarterback. He's erratic. He's everywhere."

Quote from: Jclayton92 on April 07, 2024, 04:09:00 PMThe best teams in the league currently have phenomenal TEs 49ers, Eagles, KC, Ravens etc... so if you think there's a generational TE there, why wouldn't you take them? Having a great TE allows you to do so much with your Wrs.

Personally, I'm skeptical of the label generational.  The last time I heard a player referred to as such, he was drafted #2 overall and recently signed a FA contract with a division foe. He had also been touched by the hand of God.

Look at the TEs drafted in the first round in the last 20+ years. Assuming those drafted by their teams in the top 10 were viewed by some in the front office as generational or a least very good, we have Pitts (#4), Vernon Davis, Kellen Winslow(both #6), Hockensen (#8) and Eric Ebron (#10).  After that, some had nice careers (Shockey, Njoku, Olsen for example) but the rest were meh.

No one doubts the impact a really good TE can have on an offense but the question is taking one at #6.  With regard to the Eagles, Ravens, Chiefs et al their TEs were round 2 or later.  Plus, these guys also find themselves in offenses with some combination of good QB play, other threats on the field and excellent coaching.
Again, Bowers at 6 is the one choice I would not be happy with.  I might not throw the remote but it could be the coup de Grace on 63 years as a season ticket holder

Quote from: MightyGiants on April 07, 2024, 04:27:48 PMI am sort of torn on Nabers.  I appreciate he has serious character concerns, but his abilities are off the charts.  I would like to think if the Giants drafted him, they would have a plan for how to manage him and keep him out of trouble.
