I really wish he would go away forever.

Everyone is commenting as if there's a certainty over how things transpired, when the reality is fans know about 10% of what goes on behind closed doors.

What is certain is that Dabs is an NFL coach and Wink is not. What is also certain is that whether Wink liked it or not - or whether he respected it or not - there is a hierarchy. And the head coach is at the top. Not a single team across his entire career felt Wink was worthy of that job. Daboll landed the top spot in his mid 40s.

Those are the facts. Everything else is conjecture.

Quote from: PSUBeirut on March 21, 2024, 03:39:22 PMYes.  I guess we'll see.  If he's healthy, there's no doubt in my mind he's still a top RB in the league- even after losing a step due to injury.  And he just got paid like one- despite a huge majority of Giants fans on this board proclaiming he'd never see that kind of top-end RB money.

I don't even think Barkley is a top 10 RB at this point. And this isn't being a hater or sour grapes, it's just reality. Outside of the obvious names, I'd take Gibbs, Cook, Hall, Etienne, Bijan, Walker, and Achane over him.

Quote from: PSUBeirut on March 21, 2024, 12:20:12 PMSo here's my follow-up question for those that have been tracking CB play way better than I have- why is it such a huge need to bring another CB in opposite Banks if we have a promising 2nd year player there?  I'd assume something must have happened with his play to warrant this much concern- I just haven't been tracking it.  Thanks for the help.

I think Hawkins has upside but to call him "promising" is bit optimistic, to me. While he looked good in camp, his play fell off pretty dramatically in the regular season. I'm not ready to write him off, but I'm also not ready to count on him as a starter. I'd much prefer a solid vet on a 1- to 2-year deal.

I wouldn't have an issue, necessarily, with Odunze as the pick. Like Banks last year, Odunze is the guy I targeted early on as a preferred Giants pick.

But if I'm honest, I do find it a bit troubling to be picking WR3 with a pick as high as #6. When picking that high, you're usually getting the top guy at a position (or maybe 2 or 3 at QB). So even though I like Odunze as a player, part of me is down on the value we'd be getting picking the 3rd best guy at a less-premium position.

I am high on Thomas and think a good comp is Tee Higgins. He will go late first, and I would be happy to have him, but I wouldn't be reaching for him in the mid first with so many good WRs.

Quote from: Jclayton92 on March 17, 2024, 06:19:50 PMNeal was improving, he's only played 20 games or 1 season and a 1/4.

I never saw Neal improve. In fact, I saw the opposite - regression. His footwork is a disaster. His awareness and ability to handle stunts couldn't have been worse. He often looked as though he was moving in slow motion. I expect more from this OL coach, but I don't think the best OL coach in history could turn Neal into a functional NFL tackle. Try him at OG and, if it doesn't work, move on entirely.

Big Blue Huddle / Re: Pugh to be back 2024 ?

Quote from: AZGiantFan on March 15, 2024, 03:51:29 PMI'd rather have neither of them.

Exactly. Pugh was awful last year. I appreciate that he's a good guy and teammate, but that's not enough. Signing guys because they are familiar has played a major part in this decade of awfulness.

We've brought in 3 guards and a tackle. Time for new blood. Signing Pugh would be a complete waste of a roster spot and cap space.

Same with OBJ. Don't want him anywhere near our locker room. And any time wasted on OBJ is less time and targets spent on Wan'dale, Hyatt, and hopefully Nabers.

Time to move on.

I see 3 out of the top 4 as 100% locked into their picks and no chance in hell they're trading out - Bears will take Williams, Skins will take Daniels or Maye, and Cards will take MHJ assuming he's there.

The only wild card is if the Pats surprise everyone and take MHJ, but it doesn't change the scenario - just who lands MHJ.

The Vikes 2 first rounders almost exactly equal the value of the Pats #3. I could see Minn trading up and selecting whoever Skins pass on or JJ, Cards taking MHJ, and then Chargers taking Nabers or Alt. I'd be really surprised if LA trades back in Harbaugh's first year.

Quote from: spiderblue43 on March 15, 2024, 12:31:28 AMThe Chargers, however, weren't taking a qb with Herbert. But I thought of them as a potential trade partner with the Vikings. Now, no Allen (coming off a career year) may force their hand to draft a wr.

That's when the intrigue could really ramp up. JJ, whom they may covet, and the Norsemen; who definitely want him. Adding to this, what if the Pats shock us and take the best player in the draft: MHJ?

:-??

I do think there's the possibility of the Pats taking MHJ, but only if the QB3 they're left with is someone they're just not sold on. If that happens, then things really do get interesting.

Would the Cards pivot and take Nabers? It would seem that with QB3 on the board, that pick becomes very valuable and a trade down seems likely.

If Cards stick with WR and pick Nabers, then what does SD do? QB3 is still on the board, so again, a trade down would seem to make sense.

Seems like no matter the scenario, the Giants are choosing between JJ and Odunze. Unless Pats take MHJ and both Cards and SD stand pat and draft WR2 and WR3, in which case the Giants have a very interesting decision between QB3 and QB4, but that seems highly unlikely.

Quote from: Ed Vette on March 14, 2024, 08:22:04 PMPretty unnecessary challenge to an opinion post. Deal with it.

It was unnecessary for me to ask the question "petty how?" I didn't attack you in any way.

My post was based in facts. Facts on Singletary's career and Saquon's career. Your responses were unnecessarily confrontational and not in line with your own pinned post on board guidelines.

Quote from: Ed Vette on March 14, 2024, 07:03:38 PMI think it looks petty. But, 80 passed hands too. It's a message that he doesn't really matter. I would have held it back a year.

I don't get it. Petty how? 26 has always been Singletary's number, so it's not like he went out of his way to go after it.

Further, Saquon isn't even among the top 3 RBs in Giants history, so it's not like he's a legend of the franchise. He played for 6 years - great in 2 of them, good in 1, average in 2, hurt for 1. Not the type of career that warrants major rememberance.

Big Blue Huddle / Re: What do you guys want at #47 ?

Quote from: bamagiantfan on March 14, 2024, 06:06:49 PMIf they don't move up or down I would be happy with Bowers at #6. He has been a man among boys in the SEC for two years. He could be the Pro-Bowl TE they thought they were getting with Waller. That's what you need to get with a top 10 pick. In the second round they need someone who can step in as a starter or in a rotation right away, mid-season at latest. Safety, and DT make sense but CB, RB, and WR are all in play. QB is still an option too as Pennix or Nix may still be there.

A Bowers-Nix start to the draft would be about as disappointing a scenario as I could imagine.

Passing on Nabers / Odunze would be a mistake, in my opinion. These are guys who could have a Justin Jefferson-level impact on the team. With Bowers, I don't see him cracking the top 5 TEs (meaning Laporta level).

And I'm not at all interested in the second tier QBs and think they'd be wasted picks.

I agree with killa that I want a #1 WR at #6, and I'd then go BPA at #47 between CB, DT, and OL. If the grades are close, my preference would be CB.
