Quote from: DaveBrown74 on November 24, 2023, 10:22:49 AMFor the 9ers it's always all about health. When they're fully (or close enough to fully) healthy, as they are now, I think they're the best team. That never seems to last with them though. They always seem to have star players out.

If they can be healthy in January look out. They're simply awesome on both sides of the ball.

They are what I want the Giants to become one day in the future. Plus they're going to have a chip on their shoulder going into Philly from how the NFC Championship played out last season. It's the matchup of the season which might be even more exciting than the upcoming Super Bowl.

Peace!

Looks like the 49ers have completely shaken off their mid-season blahs and recovered nicely to pound Seattle onto submission. Their defense looks primed and ready for the Iggles game circled on their calendar for sure.

What in the heck was Dolly Parton getting dolled up in a Cowboy cheerleading outfit for? Really? Sure hope she isn't selling out her shares of Dollywood in Gatlinburg, TN (beautiful country if you've never been there before; great chalets in the smokies) to perform at Jerry's World from now to eternity. Yet another reason to hate on the Cowpokes.

Peace!

Quote from: EDjohnst1981 on November 24, 2023, 05:32:56 AMHas to be a split, Igor is just back from injury so needs games to find his feet. Plus you don't want to overwork Quick, incase Igor picks up another injury later in the year.

I do think Igor will be fine, he's a top 5 (or at least top 10) goalie. Those don't grow on trees.
The Rangers struck gold (as in Knights) in acquiring him this season and the timing of his outstanding play couldn't have come at a more opportune time.

Guessing that he'll take Philly tonight and Igor gets the matineƩ tomorrow at MSG against Boston. The way the two are playing, though, maybe it should be reversed.

Looking forward to two ancient physical rivals back to back!

Peace!

Quickie!!!

Need I say more?

What a pickup this off-season! Play him until Igor gets back on track. The man is pro's pro and is hot right now. The team is also responding to him.

I'd say give him the start in Philly AND Boston. But I suspect both goalies will split the two games.

Peace!

This Daniel Jones = Dave Brown stuff has to stop. We're supposed to be informed Giants fans and know better that those two are different scenarios connected but the same school and what looks to be the dame outcome.

Is DeVito coming off the bench the same as Danny Kanell in 1996-97? I sure hope not! You get a Divisional crown built by the defense while the offense implodes in the end (as did the defense in the Wild Card game). We don't need that scenario to repeat itself.

DeVito is raw but exciting; however, he's no Brock Purdy. Now, put DeVito in San Francisco .... hmmm.

Just get the damned offensive line, and its coaching staff fixed, once and for all. Integrate it into Kafka and Daboll's offensive strategy and make it the strength it was during the Manning Super Bowl years.

As for the injuries, enough of the Ronnie Barnes stuff. Players are getting pushed onto other players' knees, ankles, etc. and are fracturing bones, in addition to ligament tears. It has been a brutal season in the trenches this year with injuries. But as bad as the Giants have been, Giant opponents have fared worse. Look at last week in Washington or the Jet game as examples. I'm digressing a bit but my point is that Jones is now a diminished asset due to cumulative injury and that's another factor which will work against him.

But back to DeVito, he should use this opportunity to develop his craft and shoot for a chance to make it as a back-up, one day, for the Giants or another NFL team. He still has a way to go and will need a few more years. But his wow factor cannot be denied and this is his chance to build his NFL video collection for interested coaches.

Peace!

I want to wish each of you a happy, blessed and safe Thanksgiving wherever you will be, and whomever you will share the day with. I use the day not primarily for eating, or football, but to consider those whom I am grateful for, and offer them my gratitude. Giving thanks is special, but offering gratitude is spiritually uplifting in giving as well as receiving, and is something I've been working on doing now that I'm getting older and realizing I wouldn't be who I am, or where I am today if not for others who have helped me along this life journey.

Consider trying it this Thanksgiving and make a habit of it. I've found it touches the lives of so many who have been there for you along the way.

Peace!

When you have a #2 who is playing as well as Quick is right now, take some of the pressure off Igor until he's ready to build back up again.

Quick hasn't lost a game yet this season and that should be a luxury for the Rangers, as well as Igor, to get back in the saddle when he's back to 100%. Even the kid from Hartford can be called back up and be counted on in a pinch.

Division rival games are always rough affairs and none more so than Pitt and Philly with Boston to top it off. Healthy and hot goaltending is of the essence.

Five and a half years before I was born, I look at it as terrorism on our own soil before we ever coined that phrase in the context we use it for today.

As an Engineer-turned-Supplier Program Manager, for a defense contractor who was responsible for putting man on the moon, President Kennedy's Address at Rice University on the Nation's Space Effort on September 12, 1962, perhaps better known as the We Choose To Go To The Moon speech, moved me in a passionate way towards my love of math, science, space exploration and the planets. I owe that speech, in part, for the direction my education and career path has taken me.

I can't watch Kennedy's speech at Rice University without tearing up. I didn't live in his time. I've watched the many documentaries of him, but I didn't know him. He was a man accomplished and loved as he was a man condemned to die by his haters. He fulfilled the plan his father lay in front of him and he stood toe to toe with communism on the brink of nuclear war.

Then, that chilling day, 60 years ago, changed everything. Whether we choose to explore conspiracy theories, examine Oswald as to why he did it or stare in complete shock at the TV as the late President's son saluted his father's casket as it rode by him, many Americans alive at that time point to that event as the day America lost its innocence forever; you be the judge.

When Neil Armstrong finally touched foot on the moon, that "One small step for man, one giant leap for mankind," I finally made it into this world to be part of that celebration (albeit in my diapers, at four months old). Much later on, whenever I see that video, with cut-in to CBS News and Walter Cronkite smiling and just shaking his head in wonder, I think back to President Kennedy and the courage he had to challenge this nation with such a daunting mission. No doubt he would have looked down and smiled the day it took place. Not so much for his prediction coming true, but for the undoubtable will of the American drive and spirit which was on show for this unthinkable dream come true. It is in that spirit I choose to remember President Kennedy and, three decades and change into my career of supporting our astronauts, as well as our Armed Forces and the many pilots who fly the friendly skies, I couldn't dream of doing anything else.

In remembrance of President Kennedy and his family,

Rest in peace.

When you've reached rock bottom, logic dictates there's no place else to go but up, right?

We will see how Schoen and Daboll objectively analyze and evaluate these metrics in the off-season. If next season comes around, and there is no noticeable improvement, you may draw your own conclusion as to what the outcome should be.

Quote from: DaveBrown74 on November 22, 2023, 06:57:06 AMGoing to be tough tonight. Definitely a winnable game, but the way we looked in the last game after the fast start worries you a little about carry-over into this game. Pens and their annoying fans will be fired up to play us too. Will definitely be a hostile environment. Good test.
At Pitt, at Philly, home Boston matineƩ in consecutive days is a mini gauntlet.

Quickie tonight makes sense and let's see them put away an annoying rival to get back on track before facing another annoying old rival. I just want them to have some gas in the tank to give the Bruins a fair shot.

Quirky early schedule with five days off then five games in seven days. Makes the Western Canadian trip seem like a cakewalk.

Peace!

I think that Dallas isn't being given credit for a game well played. They skate and play fast, their screens in front of Igor were effective and their pressure put the Rangers on their heels.

Yes, the game got away from them in the third period but they weren't hoping to win every game.

You move on and deal with the gauntlet ahead of you: Pittsburgh tomorrow, Philly in Friday and a Boston Saturday matinee.

Forget Dallas. Try and bounce back against two division rivals in their rinks before measuring up against the best in the league.

Peace!

The "Sardine Can" - the perfect name for this place.

The old Giants Stadium may have seemed outdated for some, in 2009, but it was state of the art in 1976 and had personality which reflected the Parcells-tough Giants teams of the 1980s and will forever remain in Giant lore for us who were part of it. Not just the Giants, but the Cosmos, or rock concerts or College Football, but even Pope John Paul II! That stadium became part of the legacy of this flagship franchise.

If there were so many cost constraints from the get-go, then why even build a new stadium in the first place? We all know the reason and it had nothing to do with you or I. But once that greed factor was in play, the season ticket wait, which lasted for decades in Giants Stadium, all but disappeared once the Sardine Can came into play.

But, in the end you can hate on Mara, Hess or whomever you wish. The league was headed towards the marriage with big business and entertainment and that meant goodbye to the loyalty to the common fan (i.e. you and I).

At least the Yankees got it right when they built their new stadium. The Giants (and the Jets), get to play with Charlie Tuna in the Sardine Can.

Sorry, Charlie! Your can stinks, according to the rest of the league!

Peace!

Big Blue Huddle / Re: Micah McFadden
November 20, 2023, 11:25:08 AM
After watching McFadden make play after play in the 49ers' game, I became a fan and haven't taken my eyes off the kid since.

He is one of the good, no, great stories from this team this season and I hope he continues to develop his craft.

I echo many of the comments here regarding Okereke who is playing well. I'd like to see some consistency from him and, especially so, against teams like the Eagles and Cowboys. But he's a keeper and the Giants can have both he and McFadden as their linebackers and continue to improve.

Peace!

Quote from: DaveBrown74 on November 19, 2023, 04:50:38 PMSix turnovers really is ridiculous. I'd love to know how many times that a team has turned it over at least six times in an NFL game in the past, oh I don't know, 25 years. I'm sure it has happened, but I bet it's a very small number.

22, actually.

In 2001, the Bears committed a record 12 turnovers against the 49ers when the two teams played.

The record, 12, is shared by two other teams. In 1983, Pittsburgh committed 12 turnovers against Seattle and, in 1971, the Browns committed 12 against the Colts.

Peace!
