Those numbers are impressive.  This kid has ideal measurables and decent production. With all of that, why is he considered a late 1st Rounder when he should be a Top 10 pick?

I think we will learn more soon as to why.

Very interesting.  Some of us (myself included) have openly stated that Taco Charlton (Michigan) could/would be the Giants pick at # 23 in the 1st round.  He's not even on MM's list of the top 5 edge rushers or LBs.  Hmmm...very interesting indeed.

Cid

Anyone who drafts Charlton will be doing so on potential, not production.  I am wary of guys with his kind of measurables who have not dominated college games like their skillset says they should.  So I can see why Mayock does not have him on the list.

Love Jack, but I feel Lee is going to be the better pro. No disrespect to Jack, but I like him tons better as a Will guy inside or as a strong safety than on the flank. Big hitter, but he's a smart, savvy type I want directing traffic, not roaming the field on the edge

Dave - several of your colleagues Brugler and Nawrocki have some concerns about Lee's body build and overall strength.  Nolan specifically said that he looks "maxed out" ... "looks small and plays small".  The Scout that Nawrocki employs states he is a "safety" and his value lies in the 2nd Round. Brugler stated that he gets easily engulfed by blocking linemen in running plays.  What is your reply to those reports?

The Giants were one of the worst teams last year defending the run. So why would they bring in a guy who may be an excellent pass protector but gets washed out of running plays far too often?  Although many here have disagreed with me - the Giants have typically wanted their LBs to be run stoppers first and foremost.  So if they took Lee, that would represent a change in philosophy.  Wouldn't he be a better fit for a team who want their LBs to be speedy cover types first?

Great write ups, I like how you really get into the history of the man and the player.

Do you have a read on potential 2nd and 3rd round OT prospects the Giants could draft?

Would indeed like to know your thoughts on Ifedi, Hawkins, Clark and Coleman. All look like solid 2nd Rounders.

One other angle that has not been discussed- how does Mara sell to the fan base another  year of a coach who has not made the Playoffs for four years.

I have always thought that coordinators are vastly overrated. It isn't the play call, but the execution of the play that is the driving force behind offensive efficiency.

Ceri, just superb analysis. A delight to read that hyper accurate content. Very much appreciate your effort.
Curious, where did u get "bubble butt & tree trunk legs " from? :ok:

Actually "bubble butt" was a phrase started by the late, great draftnik Joel Buschbaum of Pro Football Weekly.

Great stuff as usual Ceri!  Am following you on Twitter, so keep up the good work.

By virtue of the fact that the Giants are sending large contingents of Brass to see tackles, it is becoming more and more evident that OL will be the pick at #9. I think it is down to Peat or La'El as the choice.

I see 23 new roster faces, an inept offensive line, a new system for a QB in decline and overall questionable running back speed especially with the loss of Wilson.
Anywhere between 6-10 and 8-8 is my thinking unless the defense is absolutely lights out.
Then 9-7 is my best guess.
Unfortunately my glass is not full nor do I look through rose colored ones.

Plus 1

Thank God the schedule is weak.

I know that TEs need to be able to block but could it be that other teams are not so demanding of their TEs in blocking. Every season we see TEs have excellent games against us catching the ball with short to mid range passes and we seem to sit with no production from our TE because we aski him to be a blocking lineman first and a receiver last, I think its time we just grab a good receiving TE and teach him to block, thats what we did with Shockey...

You can "teach" someone the fundamentals of blocking.  But you cannot expect a TE with a tall, sinewy build to be a good blocker at the NFL level.  Most of them don't have the natural strength and strong lower body to hold the point against much larger defensive linemen.   With someone like Ebron, he has the size and hopefully the desire to be a decent blocker.  But he will certainly come off the field on obvious running downs as do guys like Jimmy Graham and Rob Gronkowski.

Great stuff as usual Ceri.

I don't think there is much question the Giants are looking to the Draft for a 3T.  But who?

I would be surprised if they picked Donald because they made such a concerted effort to stopping the run with their DTs off the 2013 season. I just don't think his size and small stature will allow him to be an everydown DT in a 4/3.  If the Giants feel the same way, then I feel he would be a long shot at #12.  Hagemann at #12 is far too high.  So I think the 3T will come from the middle Rounds of this Draft and hope that Jenkins holds up the entire year.

Great job Ceri.

I firmly believe the Giants will come out of this Draft with two TEs.  One a catch first/block second type and in the middle to late Rounds, a block first/catch second type.  I still think the Giants will take Ebron at #12 simply because there are no real other options.  Then perhaps an Arthur Lynch in the 5th would round out a position that is totally devoid of talent at this point.

My client is the Director of Scouting for a Major League Baseball team.  He personally scouted Tanaka this year.  He stated that he is not as good as Darvish.  But is still a borderline #1 and solid #2 pitcher.

Totally different players.  Darvish is a flamethrower.  Tanaka is a bit more surgical and has excellent ball placement.  His splitter is incredible.

Frankly, I don't care how Tanaka gets the job done, so long as he gets it done.  Andy Pettitte never had over-powering stuff either.

Tanaka's fastball ranges from 92 - 96.  That's a lot faster than Andy ever dialed up.
