Quote from: DaveBrown74 on March 19, 2024, 05:17:07 PMVery good point on Coughlin. Mara has been all over the place with his penchant for playing favorites and getting emotional about certain individuals based on personal feelings, family ties, recommendations from octogenarians who haven't had an NFL job in at least a decade, and other past associations instead of actual performance and accomplishments. That sort of thing can really be corrosive to the morale of a competitive organization, as you aptly articulate regarding your personal example as a manager.

I hope Mara is able to see all this and has the self-awareness to acknowledge it and try to work on it.
As the Maras went, so went Coughlin...the difference was a little guy named Reese who made Coughlin the scapegoat in a desperate attempt to capture some type of autonomy and power.

The problem was/is Maras still remain.

I'm jealous of the Redskins, they finally have a chance at a functional organization.

Telling a player they're guaranteed to start and telling them they have the chance to win the starting job are two VERY different things.

In my mind, they told each player the latter...Lock liked what he heard, Wilson didn't.

As far as I'm concerned, the fact that they entertained Wilson is worrisome to me. Dabol is slipping a little more each day in my eyes.

Quote from: uconnjack8 on March 22, 2024, 08:10:45 AMThe OL they signed on day 1 of FA graded as better pass blockers than run blockers.  I have taken that in coordination with other moves as a sign  that they are moving to a pass 1st offense.  Thst has led me to believe they are likely to take a WR at 6 to fill that hole at WR1.

Edit:  I do share your concern as the only player that defenses had to game plan for is gone.
Well the problem with a pass first offense especially  in today's game is that you need at minimum an above average QB to run it.

You can get away (to an extent) with an average QB with a string running game. Now they have neither. That's my concern.

I for one appreciate Barkley. He was a good soldier who never complained, and tried REAL HARD to carry the offense on his back.

Was he perfect? NO!  But he left it all out on the field.

Just like many argue about the QB, if we had built a better team(OLINE) AND THEN added him, we may have been watching a generational RB IMVHO.

But we'll never know...and may continue to suffer this fate until/unless ownership stays out of the war room and other personnel meetings and allow the football people run football operations with their own vision instead of advocating for his pet projects that continually set the franchise back.

I'm speaking in reference to how he views how much time he has left to play on a functional offense vs a rebuilding one.

Say what you want about Saquon....when he was in the line-up the offense had a chance to be functional. When he was out....it was UGLY.

I'm not complaining about not signing him, I understand the reasoning. I'm also hopeful about the OL specifically the new OL Coach.

HOWEVER: How do you solve having no offensive threat for defenses to worry about. We don't have a QB on the roster who can carry an offense. The best protection for a pedestrian QB has always been a dynamic running back who could run, block, and catch.

Are you as concerned as I am that (unbelievably) the offense can actually take a step back from last year?

He wasn't a slot guy, he was a perimeter receiver. The QB's dysfunction in last years offense only saw the perimeter a few times with Slayton.

Campbell wasn't asked to do much because our offense was trash. He's no spring chicken, he needs an offense that's ready to cook.

Big Blue Huddle / Re: Did Darren Waller Retire??

If a player retires, why would the franchise get hit with anything? (Cap or dead hit)

Seems to me that when retiring, you as a player forfeits any claim on remaining $$'s in the contract.

Had to deal with as a Giant?

Answer: Competing for his job.

I'm interested to see if he has the grit to compete head to head.

Quote from: Jclayton92 on March 13, 2024, 02:34:10 PMthere has to be a qb in 2025 to do that and currently there isn't.
"Currently" being the operative word.

There's the entire Spring/Summer and college football season before anyone can make that declaration.

Further, there's no lock for the old "generational" tag on any of this class.

So build the roster first...then wring your hands over the QB.
