If the Giants had a crystal ball and could tell the future, getting Dobbs would make sense. Who knew Jones was going to have a season-ending injury? Plus, you'd get Taylor back in 3 games and you still have DeVito.

And look, the Giants are in rebuilding mode, AGAIN. They sold off Williams because they knew they were not going to pay his asking after this year, but a contending team doesn't trade one its best DL with a lot of the season left. Trading assets for a journeyman QB so he can win you one or two more games doesn't make a ton of sense.

And I disagree with the assessment that Schoen is bad at picking players. Everyone has misses, but his ledger is still in the black.

All I want is for Schoen to identify the guy he can win with and go get him. No settling for what you think is the second or third best QB because your first choice was out of reach. Bet the ranch, trade the picks, promise your first born just go get the best guy.

This is what happened in Buffalo when they got Allen. They got lucky in that the perception of Allen was he was a "flawed" prospect but the Buffalo brain trust was sure about him and they did what it took to get in position to draft him.

Who do you see starting the first few games of the season, assuming I am correct in terms of Jones not being ready week one?

This is the issue. It is highly unlikely Jones is ready for training camp next year. I think you keep Tyrod, send Jones to IR the latest you can, and the rookie sits. If Jones comes back, you play him in the hopes someone is dumb enough to trade for him. Meanwhile, the fans start calling for the rookie in the second half of game one, hooray.

I was an early DJ critic, but he showed me something last year. I really bought into the idea that the systems around him were the issue, not necessarily his talent. He didn't throw a ton of touchdowns last year, but making that offense competent with the weapons he had (and a less than competent defense) was an accomplishment. I thought the arrow was pointing up.

In the games he played he was really bad, in ways that Tyrod Taylor seemed not to be. And now whether Jones is any good is now moot because the Giants will probably be bad enough to get out of "quarterback hell" and draft his replacement.

It just seems like a massive waste of time. I still like Schoen and I think we can win with Daboll, but I also think it is ok in retrospect to say the massive contract for Jones was a mistake, whatever the escape hatch. This of course assumes Schoen thought he had any better options in last year's draft, but we are -- once again -- at least two years from contending.

Jones will start to begin the year next year, but will be be benched in favor of the guy we draft. Schoen and Daboll get to pick the Giants version of Josh Allen, they better pick as well as Buffalo did.

Just no magic like last year. Everything that could go wrong has, starting the first time we lined up for a field goal.

Big Blue Huddle / Re: Giants vs Raiders game thread

I expect this to go just like the Browns Cards game. Raiders aren't going to score, so Giants win because they have the ball  a lot. Kinda the reason Seattle beat us.

20-3 Giants.

I thought the Giants win this game before the Raiders imploded. More convinced now. Giants are getting healthier. Jones will have more time to make a decision. The defense is playing ungodly right now and the Raiders are starting a rookie at QB.

Crosby is going to give us trouble and the Raiders are home, but that's all they have going for them. Don't let Jacobs get going and this one is over.

Also, I am knocking on wood right now.
