Quote from: GloryDays on April 27, 2024, 03:20:54 PMYes, the problem that they seem to have not addressed, except may be for the new O line coach, is their scouting and O line talent assessment.. by now it should have been clear to Schoen that they suck in that area.
We have what 13 linemen on the roster? No other team would want 10 of those!

I mean we don't know that. Bobby Johnson may have been the bigger issue. Wait and see what talent looks like when it's properly coached.

Quote from: Jolly Blue Giant on April 27, 2024, 02:09:22 PMDare I say it...or even think it...in "size and play style, he reminds me of watching Jason Witten" (also a day 3 pick). Could we be so lucky?

Change of direction, natural instinct maybe not as good but maybe a faster Kevin Boss?  :hmm:

Quote from: MightyGiants on April 27, 2024, 02:00:13 PMFree agent additions

OT MATT NELSON
OC/OG AUSTIN SCHLOTTMANN
OG AARON STINNIE
OL JERMAINE ELUEMUNOR
OG JON RUNYAN, JR
OC JIMMY MORRISSEY

The Giants can't draft offensive linemen to save their lives (Thomas being a notable exception), so maybe throwing a bunch of free agents at the problem...

And finally an line coach that may be worth his NFL salary

Quote from: londonblue on April 27, 2024, 01:57:18 PMLike Bellinger he will be a better pro than college player IMO. He is good on first down as well which will help DJ/Lock.

Off topic a bit but bigger is not always better. Belly did the over-exaggerated bulk up like Saquon did after his rookie year. That stuff blows my mind. There is a point when too much bulk is counter-productive in a quick change of direction sport. :angryfire:

I hope with Wellman back we don't see that stupid philosophy anymore.

Quote from: londonblue on April 27, 2024, 01:56:05 PMNo. They signed five free agents and two likely start. They allocated assets in the draft in 2022 and assets in free agency in 2023. It is a sensible approach as veterans provide more space for the new OL coach to see if he can get more out of at least one of the 2022 guys.

*5 OL signed in 2024 including a 30M dollar pass blocking LG and 7M/year RT/RG
*NYG #1 in NFL in resources allocated to OL in last 5 years
*New OL coach could be the biggest improvement as he effects all 5 players on the line

I would say no.....

Dabes made a comment 2 years that stuck out to me. He said NYG must be the slowest team on offense in the entire NFL.

Last 2 years Jalen Hyatt, Nabers and now Theo Johnson. Oh yeah and a stab at a Running back that ran a 4.27

Tackling technique is not picture perfect but his instincts, awareness , quick reaction time and the angles he takes are top notch.

Been binging Nubin tape. I see little wasted motion , instinct and a very sound awareness of route concepts and leveraging. I see a guy who understands spacing, depth and angles to attack both the run and the pass. A guy who could be a day 1 starter.

Then when Saban and then Jeremiah esentially say best safety and not even close it sealed it for me.

Schoen basically said sometime late last year, 'I looked at the college tape again and see no reason Neal should be this bad'. That was a shot across the bow at Bobby Johnson.

Bobby is gone. They signed a 30M dollar pass pro LG, they signed a 7M/year OG/OT in Elumenor. I bet they believe in what they have.

The offense was begging for the dominant WR1. Guessing it was Nabers all the way.

Hopefully the turnstile OL days are over like in this short clip but imagine Daniel throwing this or a similar route to Nabers instead of Slayton....

Quote from: uconnjack8 on April 26, 2024, 11:41:27 AMI feel the same way about Powers-Johnson.  Just not sure the team will invest more high draft capital in the OL at this point.

I don't see this hypothetical trade happening because there will be plenty of talent left at WR at 34.

Who you liking? Kool Aid, Melton Newton Benson Tampa?

Kinda feelin' the CB too

Quote from: Philosophers on April 26, 2024, 11:37:40 AMHe does not naturally downfield like some throwers and see a typical NFL tight window and throws it there.  Instead he bails and throws a much shorter outlet pass.  He needs to be bolder mentally.  I think he is plenty accurate to make those throws.

Yet he led the league in tight window throws for like two years under Coach Shurm and had no issues throwing down the field.

No QB is playing confidently behind an OL that gives up 85 sacks. That's like historic level of stink

Quote from: uconnjack8 on April 26, 2024, 11:16:13 AMI like Powers-Johnson but do the Giants see IOL as a position of need?

Guy can play either OC or OG or OC (if JMS gets hurts/bust) then you get Jermaine who can play RT (If Neal gets hurt/busts)

Guy is a POWERS-HOUSE! Sorry Dad joke :D

Thomas-Runyan-JMS-Powers- Eleumenor/Neal

Is it overkill? Maybe. I just love the talent and think he is your new Chris Snee day 1 starter for the next decade.

Quote from: Philosophers on April 25, 2024, 10:23:23 PMIf DJ continues to throw 2 yard passes on 3rd and 12, Nabers will not have mattered.  DJ needs to throw downfield now.

I mean DJ didn't have trouble throwing downfield when his OL was blocking even a little better than last years cluster**** That isn't my worry. It's simply staying healthy but that Schoen just brought in 5 OL and the OL coach. That OL coach may have been the biggest acquisition of the offseason including Nabers and I ain't kiddin'

Quote from: MightyGiants on April 26, 2024, 09:05:21 AMThis is an excellent perspective, Mickey.  If the team can enjoy reasonably good health and break their decade-plus-long trend of bad offensive line play, we may finally get to see what Daniel Jones is truly capable of.

I don't blame the nay-sayers on DJ because you see a bad offense and some invariably just think some HAS to be the QB.

Last year the excuses were SUPPOSED to be over but one the very things folks who thought DJ had talent and those who didn't were saying is let's see him with a better OL.

Most blue feathered fans all admitted he could be better with a better OL. Problem is not only wasn't the OL better when the bar already was pretty low, it was WORSE!!!  :what:  :angryfire:  :banghead:

So if the logic was I'll wait and see when the OL is functional but it turned to be even worse, how can we judge the guy so harshly.

Look I wanted Drake Maye but not because I hate DJ. Its cuz Drake when I watch that tape has 'top 5' QB in NFL written all over him and Daboll could make him Josh 2.0. But short of that when Dimes is a hummin' he's a fine QB in his own right. And one maaaaaybe you could win a Bowl with. My two cents anyways!

I just hope the neck is ok. I worry a bit about another injury and then it's game over.

Healthy though I'd love this year to be a Danny Dimes REDEMPTION TOUR....
