Ed, this was excellent.  The gentlemen,  Nick Turchyn, was able to explain himself very well allowing a neophyte like myself and most of us BBHers understand the difference between gap play on defense and what each responsibility represents.  Could you explain where we can get more of his work online.

Giants History / Re: Sad News About a Former Member

Sad news.  When I don't see a post from an old member I get kind of nervous that something may happened.  Some of us go back almost 20 years to the old BBWC, our BBQ's in Albany and just getting together for games.  My condolences to the family.

Lenn, I agree lets try to get together more often.

A couple of observations.  Bob was pushing salad, not sure how much went but Bob was making a serious attempt to keep a healthy look to the tailgate.  It looked like the hamburgers, hot dogs, chicken, pork loin, and steak went well.  Maybe Bob failed with the health aspect.

As stated, it is great to meet old friends and make new ones.

I'm planning on being there...may come solo (checking to see if the wife wants to join).

Coming from the city and plan to take the train. Please let me know what I can bring.

What time does everyone plan to arrive (sorry I may have glossed over it)?

Thanks!!

Andrew, check out the times that the train leaves Secaucus Junction to the Meadowlands.  Service usually begins 3 1/2 hours before stadium events with departures every 10 - 20 minutes, then hourly during events, and every 10 minutes afterwards for 1 - 2 hours after events or until the last scheduled departure.

You get a train at Penn Station and get off at Secaucus Junction where you will transfer to the train to Metlife.  The whole trip including waiting time for the trains should take no longer then 30 to 45 minutes.

When you get off of the train call us and someone will guide you to the parking lot where we will be.

Chalk Talk / Re: Observations from today's practice

I agree Rich, I think the entire experience could be different and much better....starting with the proximity to the players and coaches. I get that they need to be protected...but we're WAY too far away.

Andrew, I remember when they would practice at Pace.  I lived within a 15 to 20 minute drive and therefore I was there a lot.  There was a set of bleachers where the fans would sit.  To the left was the field house which the Giants built for Pace when they opened up their Westchester campus.  There was a 5 to 6 foot walkway in front of the Bleachers and then a wooden ranch fence that separated us from the players.  The players would warm up right in front of us.  One time a number of players were auditioning for a long snappers position including LT.  Needless to say LT was not to good at it and he took a lot of ribbing from the players and coaches.  Parcells in particular was riding him.  The point is they were so close to us you could almost hear them talking to each other.

Another time George Young sat in the stands and talked to fans.  Young had a sharp mouth and there was some pretty good back and forth between him and the fans.

A different time and place.

Ed, I will bring burgers.  I was going to bring both dogs and burgers but since Brian is bringing the dogs I will do just burgers.  I will be going to the Rockland Bakery on the way the the stadium so if anyone needs bread, rolls or anything else I will pick it up for you.

Brian, I'll get the hot dog rolls for you so don't bring them.

Ed, my son Dan and I will definitely be there on Thursday.  We are shooting for 2PM so it looks like we can stake out our area.  For all those coming please make sure that once you enter lot "B" that you turn right and go up to the road and then make your last left.  Go down a few hundred feet and our area is on the left.  The key is go right after you show your parking pass.

Chalk Talk / Re: Mojo’s Camp Notes
July 29, 2018, 09:57:22 PM
Gentlemen, one reason not mention for running a lot of blitz packages at the offense was to get the RB's up to speed on their responsibility to pick up the blitz.  I wouldn't be surprised if they were doing especially for the number 1 pick.

As for the comments made earlier in the thread about the camps at a college and off site I don't see this happening again.  If you remember they were in camp for a number of weeks with 2 a days being common.  They are now to few official practices with 1 a day and it just doesn't make any sense to pick up the entire operation for so few practices when they have everything right there at their disposal.  It just is not cost effective.  I remember when they would practice at Fairfield, Pace and then Fairleigh Dickinson in NJ.  I don't but some might even remember when they would go to Vermont.  Keep in mind that before they moved to NJ in the 70's they had no permanent home.  They played in the Polo Grounds and then Yankee Stadium and couldn't play in those facilities until after the Baseball season was over including the World Series.  At that time camp was much longer like six weeks or so and they played 6 preseason games which was cut down to 4 when they went from 14 regular season games to 16.

Yes Lenn, I believe so.  They let you into the lots 5 hours before kickoff.  Brian is usually the first one there from our group so he can verify this.

Chalk Talk / Re: 2017 CAP and Team Evaluation
August 16, 2017, 02:39:47 PM
Thanks Gordon for the great response.  Although the accident had a bad affect on the Giants in the short term in the long term it allowed the Giants to rebuild the defense into a top tier unit and they still had JPP on board.  If I remember correctly his contract was for 2016 was around 10m for 1 year they were already paying him 8m so he only added 2m to the cap in 2016 from 2015.

Although JPP lost money has still made out well and the Giants didn't do so bad either however, as you have stated unless he plays well his current contract could come back to hurt the team.

Gordon, welcome aboard.  For those of us who didn't know Gordon from BBWC he is a great Giant fan, a class act and will be a great addition to this board.

Just a few questions on the cap. Am I right to get out of your post that the cap that is not used in say 2017 it can be carried over to the next year and that the carry over could be $3m for 2018? Would you know what the Giants gained or lost when JPP was not signed to a contract but had the franchise tag and what kind of an affect it had on that year and the subsequent year?

Patti you are never to long winded.  I look forward to these podcast with Patti and the others that Ed brings into the mix.  What excited me the most was the depth at different positions that was mentioned by Patti.  Competition breeds better play by everyone and with the few exceptions at some positions like QB depth will allow the team to better withstand the various types of injuries that can and will arise.

That was a great podcast.  Pat was great but Brian it seems that you are ageing yourself with Rheingold Beer.
