Big Blue Huddle / Re: Ezeudu to IR

Quote from: madbadger on October 17, 2023, 08:40:25 PMRupture 3 or 4 of the four major ligaments attaching your big toe to your foot and go for a stroll. I bet no one here could make it more than ten feet. That is a really painful injury.

It is! I've had both of my big toes smashed at separate times. Fractured, just an agonizing experience. Try putting a sneaker or shoe on and walk. The only blessing is when they healed, they were actually stronger than before. I was 12 and 14 when I broke one, and then the other. Soon after, I got into high school sports and went through the natural growth spurts of a teenager and it was never an issue after.

As for Ezeudu, his toes are put under a great deal of stress in bearing part of his weight and having to be agile requires movement of the ligaments which support his toes. It may seem odd that a big man can be taken down by a toe injury; however, the toe, a part of the foot, is a complex subsystem of the human body which is designed to handle heavy loads and absorb considerable stresses. But once it is pushed past its maximum capacity, and becomes injured, we seem surprised that such an injury can sideline an athlete for an extended period of time.

If any of you have had a traumatic injury to your lower leg, ankle, feet or toes, you understand how debilitating it can be.

EPA - Expected Punt Average

This is all nice and pretty in September and early October. Let's see this metric in mid-November through end of December and let's see how many of the top five are still up there?

Cold, windy, wintry weather separates the "real" punters from the show-boys, the wanna-be's and the never-will-be's.

An injury involving the cervical spine, the spinal cord and vertebral arteries contained within it is no joking matter and numbness is a possible sign of a nerve being compressed. If he ends up requiring a type of cervical spinal decompression surgery, the chances of him playing again are questionable at the very best.

It's not a good situation and I hope and pray for him that it doesn't come to that as any procedure on your spine is playing Russian Roulette.

Wishing only the best for Daniel Jones.

Very true. Almost comparable to "Mission Control." You see it at NASA before, during and following a rocket launch and all the way through to mission termination. The only difference between the two is if there's a functional issue before launch, and it cannot be resolved before countdown, the launch is stood down. In the NFL, the show must go on. For that, thank goodness! Yet, history is littered with many launches which had no business going forward which did. In the NFL, it's only a game and people went home at the end of the day. During the space race, it wasn't always the case.

Peace!

I think I'm spinning after reading this thread. I was thinking Joe Morris myself.

Quote from: DaveBrown74 on October 15, 2023, 07:23:39 AMFrustrating game as in many respects we didn't play badly. No excuses, as it obviously wasn't good enough, but I thought we got some tough puck luck last night. With that said we can't be depending on puck luck against teams like Columbus, so it simply wasn't good enough.

I agree that we can't make a habit of having those kinds of losses. The Bruins, Leafs, and Canes are already 2-0 and a handful of East teams are 1-0-1. This conference is just too competitive to be getting sloppy and pissing away games we should win. Getting ourselves in a deep hole early in the season would be unwise.

I suspect we'll see a much better performance in the home opener tomorrow night.

I wouldn't even worry about the standings right now. Just try to gauge the team's mental toughness and see what the new coach does.

I can't blame any of them for having two goals pulled off the board even though they were legit offsides. They weren't the same after those and that includes the Blue Jackets' reversed goal.

Time to move on to the opener.

Peace!

Quote from: andrew_nyGiants on October 15, 2023, 09:07:10 AMWe could've had Lombardi, we could've had Bellichick, we could've had Parcells back, if not for The Mara Loyalty clause.

C'mon Andrew, if Chris Allen were still around, he'd slap you silly for tallking this nonsense.

You know very well that Lombardi left after the 1958 championship to start up in Green Bay in 1959. All the BS talk about him coming back to take over the Giants' job when Jim Lee Howell retired was just that (i.e. BS).

Belichick already had the Browns' head coaching job lined up before Super Bowl XXV which is why he left Tampa for Cleveland after the game. At that point, Parcells was still the head coach and gave no indication that he was hanging it up due to his heart condition.

Parcells part deux (1997), as you know, was rubber stamped by the old man but the issue was George Young who did not have a mobile phone so there was no way to contact him to tell him to not meet with Fassel and sign him on as head coach. So, your displaced aggression belongs on Young in this case, not Mara.

Somewhere, Mr. Allen is reminding us ... "And the beat goes on!"

Hope you're doing well, pal! Stay well!

Quote from: zephirus on October 13, 2023, 09:30:06 AMThis may ring hollow for some but I'm gonna turn 40 in a few weeks and I have no idea where the time went.

To put it in perspective, I was still running 42 minute 10K runs when I still lived in Alabama in my early 40s. I could still punt the ball about as good as the legend in my signature block below, as well.

Then I moved to Tucson, AZ for a special assignment, started a new life (i.e. divorced and remarried, will be 13 years next month of true love and happiness), kept running until my left Achilles gave out and, after five surgeries to repair that thing, and fight osteomyelitis, and had total knee arthroplasty, same leg, this past May, at 54, I feel like a 94 year old but am too stubborn to stop. I still coach my daughter's recreational soccer team and try to chase them around.

Your mind will always think you're 21. Your body will send you a painful reminder it isn't the case! Whether you listen to your body or not can be the difference of going through a lot of pain, in getting old, or, as they say, age gracefully.

Regardless, as a junior member in training, welcome to our esteemed club anyway!

Peace!

Nice start to the season and good to put the young Buffalo goalie in his place after what he did to the Rangers last season.

Next goalie Rangers need to settle a score with: Winnipeg's Connor Hellebuyck. October 30th, Mark it on your calendar.

Would the Giants fare any better against Slippery 🪨 this weekend?

Inquiring minds want to know.

Quote from: MightyGiants on October 12, 2023, 08:35:38 PMJoe,

You inspired my insane intellectual curiosity, and I came up with this

https://newcastlesportsmedicine.com.au/injury-prevention/stretching-prevent-injuries-evidence/

It appears @zephirus is correct

35% reduced risk of injury due to better balance, while 70% experienced reduced risk of injury due to better strength.

Take those two points, measure the Giants' injured offensive linemen capabilities versus their opponents and what conclusion do you draw? Is it as simple as that?

Maybe we already have the answer and don't have to interview Ronnie at all!

Schoen, draft stronger, well balanced players!!!

Peace!

Big Blue Huddle / Re: NY Rangers 2023 - 2024 Season

Quote from: DaveBrown74 on October 11, 2023, 08:32:37 PMI'm not taking an overly optimistic or pessimistic view myself. Going to see how it develops. I feel like when you have a top three goalie you're generally going to be in the conversation. Obviously our vets have not gotten the job done in postseason play and our hyped up young guys have not stepped up at all, so those are the negatives. On paper though I feel like the roster is good. It is also very clear now that as much as I may have liked Gallant, the players and he were not on the same page. That doesn't mean Lavvy will be much better, but the players seem to be more on the same page with him so far based on what I have gathered.

Having a top three goalie means you have a solid backup working in tandem with your #1.

Halak started slowly, last year, but then played lights out from January onward and carried the Rangers a bit until Igor was ready to turn it up for the playoffs.

Quick is an old vet who's been around for a long time and knows his craft as a backup. As long as he can be at least as good as Halak was, last season, the Rangers will be fine in goal.

Peace!
