Big Blue Huddle / Re: Offensive Line Frustrations

There is an old saying that the best teacher, best communicator on an NFL coaching staff should be/is the Oline coach.

A well coached Olline will not only know what to immediately expect before them but what to expect as the alternatives that may be coming as well. Any hesitation in responsibilities will lead to doom.

The Giants Oline on a good day doesn't know what is coming at them as they simply not cover straight up rushes yet alone stunts, dogs, or any real blitz.

Johnson has not properly prepared the Giants Oline 99% of the time.

Lets be honest his units were not good in Buffalo either.

2023 - will be in bottom of league if not worst
2022 -18th   Giants O line coach
2021 - 17th  Bills o line coach
2020- 10th   Bills o line coach
2019 - 21st    Bills o line coach
2018 - 3rd (expected to middle of the pack)  Colts Ass. Oline Coach to Dave DeGuglielmo

Johnson as a 5 year Oline Coach will average a final season rank of 19th for his unit. When he was hired he averaged 16th.  So the unit that sunk the end of Eli's career, TC's career and the better portion of a decade; Daboll decided to bring in a mediocre at best coach to rejuvenate the Giants O line.

That is a huge mistake to start his HC career.

Quote from: Philosophers on December 18, 2023, 11:42:33 AM76 sacks in 14 games.  I don't think you can go back to another season and find as many sacks after 14 games.

With the GMen you can not.

However, the 1986 Eagles gave up 104 sacks in 16 games with Jaws and Cunningham behind center
96 of those were in the first 14 games.

and that is the list of teams that have given up more sacks in 14 games than the current 2023 Giants

I doubt the Giants will give up 28 sacks in the next 2 games to take the record, or even the next three

So there you have it, the Giants 2023 Oline is the 2nd worst line in the history of the NFL

Quote from: kartanoman on December 13, 2023, 07:57:01 AM1. Early goals given up. Last night was the third or fourth time Igor has given up a goal early in the game. You just can't do that and start handicapped. Against a contender like Toronto, who will bury you, as they did so well last night, you have to stay focused.

Peace!
Mentally not there.

Needing time to warm up, early goals, soft goals, glove side misses with clear site lines are all signs of mentally not being in the moment.

Unfortunately, the fix is to grind through it.  Could we see Igor get the lighter match ups to get in a rhythm?

With high school and youth hockey season in full tilt here is Wisconsin, Iam driving to or at a Hockey rink most nights and almost all weekend.

It is nice to read your posts on the games I have missed.

I did catch the 1st 1/2 of the Capitals game...it was bound to happen sooner or later.

Missed the Kings but glad to see them rebound.

RE:Igor
He certainly is off, no doubt. Tracking the puck with a clear site line and missing glove side is all on him.  However, there has been some tremendously poor puck luck for him as well.

Furthermore, when a goalie makes the 1st and 2nd save, the 3rd and up shots lead to a goal in that is on the defense.

The team is winning and their top player is struggling, patience can be applied.  His motions look real good though and sooner or later the puck will start to grow and his tracking will look like it has in the past and Igor will be standing on his head again on most nights, IMO.

Fire Thomas McGaughey

Like this morning....

After last night I suppose Bobby Johnson can stick around until the end of the season.

Next year TT is the odd man out.

Jones will be back for his 69 million dollars and Schoen would be crazy not to bring TD back.

Until the draft, it is what it is....

I will say this, our QB play has been so bad for so long it is hard to imagine that this is what is getting people excited.

Who really wants him at that cost?

Didn't follow rumors as I was hoping they weren't interested .

Quote from: BluesCruz on November 29, 2023, 01:12:27 PMsounds like a bunch of double speak to me

Schoen has no ties to Jones.  He didnt draft him and did not activate his option.

Certainly Jones performance this year does not call for a repeat

I do not think Jones will be our QB next year.  Schoen will find a way to unload Jones

Schoen never said he would not take a QB, he said when Jones is healthy, he is the QB.

With 69 mill dead cap next year I would expect jones to be the QB and allow the Oline to further develop.

Either build up his value and trade him or let him exist while the new QB gets comfortable, and the line develops more.

All this being said I agree, its double talk setting Schoen up for the draft. he hides his intentions much better than DG ever did.

Quote from: Gmo11 on November 22, 2023, 10:00:33 AMQuick will definitely get a couple starts during this run of games and it does seem like Shesty is still finding his game a bit after the injury.  A lot of goals trickling in on shots he seems to have secured.  Some of that is bad luck but there's been a lot of that the past couple games.  He did flash that Vezina skill in his first game back after a shaky first period though so I think it's in there and he will find it again as the season goes along.  We got a long ways to go!
I agree some of that is just lack of puck luck.

Tracking the puck comes in waves as well, sometimes it seems like a beachball, sometimes not so much.

I think losing is the point. Schoen has personally scouted the QBs in contention for selection
