Just finished "Legacy: The True Story of the LA Lakers".

10 Episodes, one better than the other.

Although I have to say that Episode 10 is gut wrenching, every time I see Kobe and Gianna together it rips me apart.
It's less about Kobe himself to be honest, more about the fact that his wife has lost a husband and a daughter so tragically and that Gianna hasn't been able to live her life fully, dying so young.

Congratulations John. I am happy for you that you got over this one, probably one of the toughest and hardest fights you had to fight. But you made it, that's all that counts.

Quote from: Blue Fire on January 02, 2023, 01:57:34 PMWild if this reporter knows what he is talking about....

But Daboll also knew this: He needed to test Jones' mental toughness.

So, when training camp began, he devised a plan. As one source close to the coach explained, Daboll purposely structured practice for Jones to fail and Taylor to succeed.

"He wanted Daniel Jones to deal with the adversity," this source explained. "He wanted to see how he dealt with it on a daily basis. And he passed it with flying colors. So, I know he loves Daniel Jones.

"He loves Daniel Jones. He loves him."

Practices are always scripted. Daboll would tell defensive coordinator Don "Wink" Martindale which plays he'd be running when Jones was in the game, this source explains, and had Martindale call defensive plays that'd intentionally work. And when Taylor entered? Exact opposite. Plays were scripted on both sides to set him up for success.

Jones did not flinch. Daboll was thrilled.

Quote from: ps11yat14 on January 02, 2023, 04:32:47 PMI heard Bob Papa and Carl Banks discuss this same thing. Said the defense knew the play before it was run and every time the play didn't work DJ would walk over to the coaches and ask what he did wrong and what did he have to do to fix it. He never got mad, never lost his composer and always remained consistent with just working to get better.

Bill

As Eli was riding towards the sunset, all of us were probably looking for a QB that had similar type of composure and character treats. That's the type of QB I see leading the Giants' team.
I don't see a bold or eccentric type of QB leading the Giants.

And when I read this, that's exactly what I would be wanting as a QB.

Re Daboll loving Jones; I think his reaction after the second run TD by Jones says it all - he was thrilled about it at the sidelines.

Do I want to keep Jones? Yes. I think he's done everything he needed to earn himself a new contract.

If I look at the QB's that will hit FA after the season, I think he's second to Brady and Jackson only (yes, I think he's better than Garoppolo - has more potential and upside for sure).

Stars: Tom Brady (Tampa Bay Buccaneers), Lamar Jackson (Baltimore Ravens)

Starters: Geno Smith (Seattle Seahawks), Daniel Jones (New York Giants), Jimmy Garoppolo (San Francisco 49ers), Andy Dalton (New Orleans Saints), Jacoby Brissett (Cleveland Browns), Taylor Heinicke (Washington Commanders), P.J. Walker (Carolina Panthers)

Backups who have started: Teddy Bridgewater (Miami Dolphins), Baker Mayfield (Carolina Panthers), Sam Darnold (Carolina Panthers), Joe Flacco (New York Jets), Drew Lock (Seattle Seahawks), Gardner Minshew (Philadelphia Eagles)

Backups who have filled in: Cooper Rush (Dallas Cowboys), Tyler Huntley (Baltimore Ravens), Mike White (New York Jets), Brett Rypien (Denver Broncos)

Quote from: uconnjack8 on December 16, 2022, 01:00:11 PMYou are free to disagree and it may have been harder to do but Bernie Madoff did what he did with regulation and people reporting suspicions.  Further, things like Enron, Lucent, MCI/Worlcom have all happened in the 2nd half of my life while under regulations that are supposed to prevent it.

To say scams won't happen because of regulations is false.

I think crypto markets should be regulated but I don't think regulations are some 100% insurance against scams

This I agree with though.  ;)

Quote from: uconnjack8 on December 16, 2022, 10:43:44 AMFTX was really a Bernie Madoff type of scam which really has nothing to do with what crypto is or isn't.

I beg your pardon, but I respectfully disagree; If the markets and the brokers would've been regulated to the right extent, this wouldn't have happened. Initially, everyone was happy because of the lack of Regulations, the independence from the normal financial system... but now this happened and most if not all are now screaming for Regulations of the Crypromarket.

Quote from: uconnjack8 on December 16, 2022, 10:43:44 AMOn the other, I think blockchain technology is really helping in a lot of industries and will continue to grow.

This I agree with. The blockchain technology can be used for many things outside of Crypto for sure.

The Front Porch / Re: Top 10 Christmas Movies
December 16, 2022, 12:31:58 PM
I am going to be honest with you guys; I understand why Home Alone is not a Christmas movie in the strict sense.

But for me and my beloved sister, it's been a Christmas Movie since our teenaging years. And we've passed this on to our kids, too.

We also like to watch Disney Movies (Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party, Djungle Book, Mary Poppins etc.) on Christmas.

At the end of the day it's less about the Movie, more about the company and just being together. ;)

Yeh, you watch that with the kids with the line "yippie kay yay" mf-bomb...  Not sure the mothers would be particularly happy.

Personally, I am no fan of Cryptos. I work in Market Conduct and since it's not regulated it has a massive potential of a) money laundring and b) market manipulation (less so for Insider Dealing in my view).

But it's part of the modern financial system and as such, there are facts which are undeniable.

1. Crypto is not correlating with anything. Wrong. When the market crashes, Crypto crashes with it.
2. Crypto cannot be used to diversify a portfolio. Wrong. If used in the right measure, there are possibilities to increase an RoA ratio, more specifically

Portfolio Allocation excl BTC
40% Bonds
35% Stocks
25% Real Estate

Performance since 2016
Return: 5.4%
Std. Deviation: 7.4%
Sharpe Ratio: 0.73

Portfolio Allocation incl BTC
39% Bonds
34% Stocks
24% Real Estate
3% Bitcoin

Performance since 2016
Return: 12.1%
Std. Deviation: 9.1
Sharpe Ratio: 1.33

If you play it conservative enough and use it appropriately there are ways on how to make money, as long as you're patient and don't overload (can't Blitz all the time, can you?!  ).

I've watched Black Adam last weekend. Total waste of time.

I'm pretty sure Will Smith has seen his wife cry many times over what was happening to her. Who knows how many ways he tried to console her, who knows how many times he failed. Maybe he had to remind her that she was beautiful and that she would always be beautiful, even without hair. Sorry if it seems too easy to judge a gesture like the one that took place at the Oscar ceremony while sitting behind a keyboard. Sorry if a husband loses his temper when someone laughs at his woman trying to make a petty and low irony about an illness, because yes, Will Smith's wife's is an illness. Violence is never to be justified, true, but violence is also verbal and the tongue can hurt exactly like a punch in the face.

Having said that, I have my wife also suffers a mental illness. If someone makes fun of her because of that I do exactly what Will Smith did. EXACTLY THAT.
Because nobody knows what we talk about day in and day out, how much time I spent and spend trying to understand her, trying to help her. Only she and I do.

I know I took a slightly different stance previously when the discussion started off, then I put myself into W Smith's shoes... and you know what? I understood.

This was not staged. Can't be. The reaction from W Smith after the slap made that pretty evident.

Agree on the perception re W Smith, didn't look good on him. On the flipside, I think Ch Rock overstepped the line there, heavily. Poor on both sides if you ask me.
