Jolly, I've got a Generac that goes on automatically when the electric goes off.  You might want to consider that.

April snowstorms in northern States are not that rare.   It happens from time-to-time.  Sorry you had so much trouble though. The one good things about snow so late in the season is that it's gone pretty quickly.
