I like Jake Butt a lot more as an option for the Giants now that they have Ellison to improve the blocking from a TE position.  He is a pass catching TE.

Phil, do you know the status Jake Butt's injury?

Peppers is a freak athletically talented player who will play anywhere the coach wants him to play.  He can play LB and Safety as well as return punts and kickoffs and also takes snaps on offense.  I would love to see what Spags can dream up for him.

Howard first then McCaffery and Peppers who can play anywhere on the field including offense, defense and special teams.  If all 3 are available then I don't think that we could go wrong with either of them.

is a TE from Miss showing any rise in stock from his combine?  I forgot the name.

Yes, he had an excellent combine.  You can see in both Evan Ingram and McCaffrey that they are good receivers and smooth in their route running.  Ingram is only 235 and according to Mayock, is a willing by not a necessarily a good blocker.  They showed some film and he has lighting moves for a TE. It makes you question if he is a TE or a big WR.

If you watched the tight ends yesterday, a record 10 were under 4.7 in the 40.  Records were also set in the broad and the vertical jumps for TE's.  They were saying  that this may be one of the most talented if not the most talented group that they have seen.

Two big things to remember about the combine are the medical testing and the interviews.  In addition, if you have two players that are close or equal to each other in your evaluation the combine could be the place where they separate the two.  Your correct that you can't use the combine as the only thing to evaluate but it is the only place where you can test and evaluate 300 players at one short period of time.

Phil and Joe:  I think you just line up the players on your paper and cross off the players picked, then when it's your turn you evaluate the POSITIONS that have been taken with an eye toward what is likely to be left on your NEXT pick, then you make your CURRENT pick.  This system allows you to adjust in two ways: first, if the top remaining player on your list plays a position that has already been "popular" in the picks before you, you can just take that player; second, if the position of the next player has so far been ignored, you also have the option of skipping over that guy if, for example, the next guy below him on your list plays a position where the draft is weak or where there's greater need.

I believe this is what the Giants already do.

IMO, the problem for us "observers" is not the systematic approach the Giants use, but rather that we often disagree with the order in which they've placed the players on their list.  Since they spend more time assembling their list than I do, I usually tend to give them the benefit of the doubt, figuring they know a whole lot more than I do.

Bob

On Path to the Draft, they at times do an exercise called Cluster Busting.  This is where they have a group of say 5 players that are pretty close in their rating.  They try to break the players out in some kind of order.  This is done before the draft by teams so that when they get some idea as to which way to go.  It's easy to select a player that you have rated much higher then anyone else however, when you get players who are clustered closely you need to have an idea as to which way you need to go.  It's not as simple as just taking the next player off of the list.

You have to let the draft come to you especially if you are picking at 23.

Jim:

You and I have discussed this several times at tailgates concerning your admiration and respect for Frank Gifford.  When my son told me this afternoon one of my first thought was you and the times that we discussed and you expressed your feelings about the man.  The saying once a Giant always a Giant was never more true then when it came to him.  In fact you could say that after Wellington Mara Frank Gifford was Mr. Giant.  Another part of my youth gone.

I read somewhere that coming home from the Rams game coach had OBJ sit next to him on the flight and they discussed the antics that happened in the game.  Best thing that OBJ could do.

Gifford has been quoted as saying that he was the best athlete on the team.

Wasn't Rosy Brown besides playing OLT also playing defense on that goldline stance due to an injury to that other Rosy.

Tom, you can count me in.  I'll bring a pulled pork if that is OK.  Being that it is a 1 pm game would 12 or 11 be OK?  Do you think that we should break bread during half time?
