Quote from: Giant Obsession on October 04, 2023, 12:53:45 AMWe are a supposed flagship franchise DESPERATE for some sign of continued success as a show of our strength and stability.

The powers that be in the offseason after success the previous year lie to themselves, overvalue and overpay and think the success will continue.  Our drafts are ordinary at best.  We would in almost every circumstance be better off trading out of the first 2 rounds cuz we sure can't evaluate talent across the board.

No balls to make the tough call like holding the line on Jones and Barkley (one is ordinary the other close to being done), keeping good citizens on the roster who have no football value.

In short the New York Football Giants are a clusterf**k football franchise who occasionally like the blind pig find an acorn.

And don't it make you wonder just HOW MANY first time head coaches are we going to keep hiring.

Yup. A franchise always taking the safe, easy route. It's a reflection on the conservative Mara family. Never thinking outside the box. Taking loyalty to the extreme and to the detriment of the franchise. The modern success of the Giants was started by an outsider hoisted on the quarrelling owners by the commissioner. Young's legacy led to Accorsi, Reese and Coughlin. I had hopes for Schoen but the deal for Jones was a bad indicator.

Giants made mistakes when the Schoen/ Daboll regime took over. They should have torn it all down then. Two years now are wasted with the team's status as bad as it was then. You can't do a halfway rebuild. Jones and Barkley should have been gone then.

They've been in a cycle of below mediocrity for about a decade. They never learn that when there is a regime change, that they need to break it all down and rebuild. Their half-ass measures: Gettleman trying to build around a declining Eli and now Schoen and Daboll keeping Jones and Barkley when they were valuable assets that could be dealt for capital to rebuild. You have to bite the bullet, clean it all out, and start over or this is what you get. A big part of the problem during all this is Mara. He wanted to keep it going with Eli. And again, with the Duke golden boy, Danny Jones.  Let football people make the decisions.

It's pretty simple folks. When Daboll and Schoen came in, either they are not the evaluators they claim to be or Mara pressured them to keep Jones (and Barkley). When you start over, you start over. These half ass transitions never work.

Quote from: TDToomer on October 03, 2023, 11:13:17 AMIs this a serious post? Asking for a friend.

Yes! Absolutely. Jones best asset are his legs. He's fast and tough. His QB skills are not there so why not? It takes the ball out of his shaky "hands" as well as decision-making. And it also adds the threat of the halfback option pass. This season needs innovative change to try to rescue it. But the Giants are a stodgy organization. They would never think outside of the box.

Jones is a wonderlic wonder. But his football IQ is abysmal. He's a dumb QB.

Move Taylor to QB. Insert Jones as a tailback, splitting time with Barkley and Breida.

I will give Daboll another year, regardless. But again, the decision making by management is always suspect here. The problems start at the top. Always. My feeling when there is a big shakeup is not go half way. Tear it down and start over. That meant getting rid of assets like Barkley and Jones to build for the future. And bring in your own people. This patch work approach never works.

With the Daboll/Schoen regime coming in they should have cleaned house, including Jones.

And was a two time Super Bowl MVP.

When Jones wins two Superbowl MVPs, I'll forgive him.

A fixture for failure.

Seattle offensive line is decimated yet they are more productive than the Giants bad line.
