Big Blue Huddle / Re: Take a page out of the Jets book

Quote from: Jclayton92 on November 20, 2024, 04:26:07 PMI mean the cowboys are considering Deion or Belichick, is that really better than what we have currently?

I believe BB has the ability to fix the broken Giants organization.

Quote from: LennG on November 20, 2024, 05:32:39 PMThe problem with some of this reasoning is that we don't want to stretch for a QB who may, or may not, be 'the guy'. We could end up with another Daniel Jones type and we'd be screwed for another 5 years. If we pass on a QB and opt for BPA, say a CB, and we go with a journeyman as a bridge, who says we come anywhere near being able to draft a top guy come 2026? People say go after Darnold, well Darnold might win 8-10 games here and where would that put us for looking ahead?

And, we had absolutely no chance at the top 3 guys the past year. None of the top 3 teams that drafted QBs were going to opt out and bypass their chance at the franchise guy. Just because we wanted in, doesn't mean we were able to. Personally, when I knew those top 3 would be gone, I really wanted Nix. They said he was pro-ready and he could have waited until Jones screwed up and then it would have been his team.

We, as fans, wish for a lot of things, but, in reality, we probably won't have a shot at them.

I guess after 20 years, it was bound to happen.   I completely agree with you, Len.  =D>

Sources: There is "disappointment" among some #Giants players regarding how the Daniel Jones situation was handled over the past week, especially with players aware it was primarily a financial decision by the organization.

Dexter Lawrence publicly stated on Tuesday: "He's the QB1. To me, he's the best quarterback on the team."

One offensive player told me over the phone: "We're not idiots. They did it because of money. So be it. But Daniel has been all class, never complained, and is now being completely disregarded. The TEAM record is bad. You can point fingers everywhere. To try to blame him is trash, and making him third string is weak as fu**."

The sense I've gotten from multiple sources — players, coaches, and executives — is that the issues within the organization go far beyond just one person.

Quote from: MrGap92 on November 20, 2024, 03:59:37 PMAny idea where we are likely to stand comp wise as of now?

A fourth rounder likely.  Maybe an outside shot at one more that is lower

In my opinion, a wise move by Daboll

I will also add that this sort of move is the type one makes if one is seriously trying to win more games.   I say that, because in my consumption of football media, I have heard speculation that putting DeVito in was an indication the team was actively trying to tank.

Quote from: T200 on November 20, 2024, 03:39:30 PMI thought about him yesterday. Definitely miss him.

I miss him as well.  BBH has seen way too many good people pass over our 17 years, but I think he is the one I have thought about the most.  He was here nearly every day, reading all of our posts, and you could count on him to offer his commentary.

What I wouldn't give to hear, "he's a bum and he was always a bum" one more time...

Quote from: T200 on November 20, 2024, 03:22:03 PMPlay hard, play well, lose a close one.  :ok:

While I have zero problem with hoping for losses (hell, I was doing that last season hoping to land an elite QB prospect), I couldn't help but think what the late great Jim V would say, as he was violently opposed to the idea of tanking or rooting for the Giants to lose. ;)

Quote from: gregf on November 20, 2024, 03:29:53 PMAny update on Tom Coughlin nomination?

He is among the 9 finalists.  From what I could gather from the HOF website, they met yesterday to pick one to be added to the list I posted (along with the senior nominees).  From what I can tell, one of the 9 coaches was picked, but they have not announced who was selected.

I have seen quotes and clips of various players.   The only player who seems truly upset and trying (but not fully succeeding) to put on a brave face is Drew Lock.  It's pretty clear he was not happy to be passed over.  I guess when you come to a team thinking you will have a chance to start or perhaps compete for a starting job only to get passed over for the 3rd string QB on the practice squad...

I think this is a positive indictor in terms of the locker room being supportive of their new QB

Big Blue Huddle / Don't expect a second DeVito circus
November 20, 2024, 03:14:09 PM
As I mentioned yesterday, it sounds like DeVito wants to focus on football and not be the sideshow he ended up being last season.

This is purely my own feelings:

I have little use for HOFs. Most of the time, there aren't clearly defined criteria for entry, which negates the value.  Secondly, while I occasionally enjoy remembering great plays and players, my focus tends to be on the present.

To me, it's sort of like the old car shows that used to be all the rage (at least around where I have lived).  Interest in the old car shows sort of died out.  I suspect it was partly due to over-saturation, but I feel like old cars, in general, have limited interest.  No doubt it's interesting to the owners and restorers of old cars, but in reality, the old cars are not as good by most measures as current cars.  So, interest in old cars tends to be stronger for those who have fond memories of a particular car or dreamed (when they were younger) of owning a particular car (and now they can).

So, how does that long-winded commentary on car shows relate to the HOF?  Sure, I like remembering the Giants great and the true legends of the game.  On the other hand, a really good CB who played for the Rams 50 years ago or an offensive lineman who played for the Seahawks 30 years ago doesn't exactly spike my interest.

So, while I would probably visit the HOF if I happened to find myself in Canton, OH, I seriously doubt I would go out of my way to get there.
