Quote from: MightyGiants on Today at 10:41:11 AMIf the Giants lose out, I will be hard-pressed about how Daboll can keep his job. While I appreciate the Giants desperation for continuity, I have to wonder if they continue to ride with a GM who made the team worse in his 3 year tenure.
And if he loses out and doesn't lose the lockerroom?

Quote from: MightyGiants on Today at 08:10:51 AMI appreciate some believe that players see the bigger picture and the benefits of tanking, but since DJ's benching, I have heard many more people with first-hand NFL experience reiterate that players go out there putting their health (and potentially their careers) on the line every game.  They go out there to win, and the fastest way to lose a locker room is if the players feel like their coach or the organization doesn't share their desire to win.

By going with DeVito, Daboll went all in.   Either DeVito provides a spark like last year and Daboll and Schoen come out smelling like roses, or DeVito crashes and burns.  If DeVito crashes and burns, Daboll loses the locker room, and he's gone.  At that point, Schoen should be a little nervous about his future with the team.

It will be interesting to see how Schoen and Daboll's all-in bet plays out.
And, if DeVito plays as well or better than Jones and they still lose?  Let's face it, Jones has not set a very high bar for what DeVito needs to do in order to accomplish that.  Vets were not happy in 2004 when they switched from Warner to Eli when they were 5-3.  Not comparing either of our 2 "quarterbacks" to those 2, but what your saying is the same concept.

Quote from: MightyGiants on Today at 09:22:14 AMHe has sent word to his family and agent that there will be none of that.  So anticipate no more finger purses from Tommy, no agent dressed up as an Italian caricature, his family is much more low-key, etc.

He can't control the memes or how the networks or the fans portray him, but unlike last year, Tommy isn't going to be feeding the beast.
I am referring more to his cult-like following of fans.

Quote from: MightyGiants on Today at 08:59:15 AMFor those saying no vote of confidence from the HC is how it should be.  Can you cite any examples of QBs given the starter role on a game-by-game basis rather than be appointed the starter so they can relax a little (not worry that one bad game will cost them their job) and the player gets the boost by being named the starter moving forward which also gives him more clout with his teammates (the starter vs a place holder)
You are reading way too much into things.  He cannot come out and say he is starting the next 7 games.  He plays poorly, he will be replaced.  He plays well, he will continue to play.

As it should be, it will be based on how he plays.  If DeVito plays so well everyone is saying they would be in the play-offs if he started from Day 1?  The yes, he will play out the stretch.  He plays worse than Jones, I am sure Lock will get a few starts.

Could be a sense of loyalty to Jones.  Could be they see DeVito in practice and KNOW Jones is better.  Could be they do not know what they are talking about!  We shall see.

Quote from: Trench on November 20, 2024, 10:44:11 PMI've read reports Jines may ask for his release or be told he can stay away from the team.

Let me say, I don't believe this for a second. One thing Jones is not and that is a bad teammate. He is a Captain and QB. The idea he would just leave the team is absurd. Maybe others would do that, but not Daniel Jones. He's a good teammate first and foremost and these writers who are trying to find stories should be ashamed of themselves.
He could be looking to stay away for the sake of the team.  He knows the focus is now going to be on his future with the team and whether DeVito is the best option to win games.  If he is not around, maybe the focus is on the actual performances moving forward?  Just thinking out loud.  Staying away doesn't necessarily mean Jones is quitting on the team or being a bad teammate.

Just because he doesn't want it, doesn't mean it won't happen.

Big Blue Huddle / Re: Take a page out of the Jets book

No team should ever take a page out of the Jets book.  Hell, I don't want the Giants ever opening or even looking at the cover of the Jets book.

Quote from: Messiah717 on November 20, 2024, 11:37:11 AMKakko has a long way to go to justify the second overall pick.
There is not a single team in the league that would not have taken Kakko if they had the 2nd pick.

Kakko 13 points in 17 games.  Not too shabby for a "bust".  Cullye 16 points.  Their analytics as a line are very strong, as well.

Quote from: MightyGiants on November 19, 2024, 12:16:23 PMFair point, although I will add I am not a big fan of talking smack about people behind their back either.  I appreciate the case for no harm, but I just see it as bad form.
So, you would rather thousands of fans on message boards and twitter confront Jones and tell them their thoughts to their face?

Big Blue Huddle / Re: Picking DeVito over Lock
November 19, 2024, 05:45:00 PM
If I had to guess as to why DeVito over Lock.  I would say it could be one of these four things:  1) Long eval for Devito to shape what they do next year in case they cant get or don't like any of the draft 2) They saw how bad Lock was against the Eagles and decided they'd rather not make everyone puke by watching that.  3) DeVito has looked much better in practice than Lock.  4)  DeVito has the cult-like following and figure we could all use that entertainment in this lost season.

Quote from: MightyGiants on November 19, 2024, 10:02:56 AMI am just expressing how I was raised.  I was raised not to kick a man when he's down.  I certainly wouldn't do it from someone who failed despite his best efforts.   I also think in that case, I was taught to show class and acknowledge the good (because it doesn't cost you anything at that point) and not keep harping on the bad.

That's just how I was raised and values I hold.  I certainly don't expect everyone to share those values.
I get what you are saying, but we are fans on a message board that Jones will never read.  We are not at the stadium mocking him as he leaves or going to house and telling him how much he sucks or harassing his family members.

Quote from: T200 on November 19, 2024, 07:53:18 AMOh, no doubt it was a tough spot for them to be in. But they *did* get the short end of the stick.

I'd be curious to know what Schoen and Daboll *really* wanted to do if they 100% had their way.
Yeah, me too.  The FA QB class was thin that year.  After making play-offs, can't imagine they thought one of the QB's I mentioned would be able to bring them back to the play-offs.  I think if they had their druthers, they would have waited, let market play out for Jones.  Not sure anyone else would have given him the same guaranteed money the Giants did.  BUT in their defense, that would have been VERY risky.  All you need is ONE other GM to want him, and the contract may have been worse or they would have been stuck with someone worse.
