Quote from: T200 on November 21, 2024, 12:15:38 PMIf I'm Joe Schoen, some of the conversations that should have been had center around the QB that the owner heavily influenced Schoen and Daboll to keep. Mara can't justify firing Daboll when he saddled him with a QB that couldn't move the ball downfield and put it in the end zone on a regular basis. People pay good money to attend the games and Jones only had one game at home with a passing TD. Unacceptable. That's the QB Mara wanted, that's the results we got.

THIS! It's all on Mara. It's in his DNA to make Jones type decisions. If Pete Rozelle didn't step in we would never have had George Young. There are definite similarities in how Wellington did, and John goes about ownership. How can there not be? Father and son. They hire(d) family soldiers, and would influence. Jones' contract is all on Mara. Now the compromise is being exercised. It's a business. The players will tell you that. Therefore they should just go about their business, and not voice their dismay, and/or feel bad for Jones. Can't have it both ways. One of their NFLPA brethren is now on the sideline out of harms way collecting the back end of $40 Million. No need to cry for Jones. Let's see who Schoen/Dabol value in this draft at QB. There could be a couple of second or even third round QB's that may fit their criteria. If we do get #1 or #2 I would like to see what level of a King's ransom we could get back in return. We need to stockpile good football players.

Quote from: Messiah717 on November 20, 2024, 11:37:11 AMKakko has a long way to go to justify the second overall pick.

At this point I don't let the second overall cloud my view. I just want to see an improving player contributing. Kakko is strong on the puck, and on the boards, can skate, has a good shot that he doesn't use enough. That lines full potential depends on Chytl's health. I don't like Brezinski, he's a 4th line player at best. If I were Drury/Lavy I'd be keeping an eye out for a better option than Brez.

Chytl rejoining the team in Calgary. No concussion. https://www.foreverblueshirts.com/new-york-rangers-news/injury-update-filip-chytil-doesnt-have-concussion-travel-calgary/
The bottom six may be the difference this year. The fourth line just may be better than most if not all the fourth lines in the league. The third line has two #1s, and a #2 pick. They have speed, grind, and talent.

Big Blue Huddle / Re: NGT- Jets fire their GM

Leave it to the jets to make fan life bearable for Giant fans. Not wanting to be outdone by the Giants "firing" Jones the very next day Woody Rodgers takes it up a notch, and fires the GM. They are always a step or ten ahead of us in futility. Talk about schadenfreude. <:-P

Quote from: todge on November 18, 2024, 04:27:50 PMThis organization is an embarrassment and it's getting worse by the week.

If I'm Jones and his agent, I'm asking for anything to get out of this mess. What are the cap limitations for either trading or releasing Jones.

I'm embarrassed to be a Giants fan now.

Why? All of this is on Mara. Since 1965, my first year as a fan their regular season W-L record is about 60 games under .500. A historically losing franchise. Players, coaches, GM's all come and go, the one constant is a Mara. The four SB's for me are a mitigating factor in facing the losing. Remember this is the franchise that drafted Rocky Thomson. If it wasn't for Pete Rozelle stepping in we would not have had George Young. No Perkins, Parcells, Coughlin. Before them we had Webster, Robustelli, and more recently Gettleman. All Mara family soldiers. Finally they went outside the organization. However S&D were saddled with the history repeats itself QB from Duke. Mara is the reason we have had Jones for this long. "We've done everything we can to screw up this kid" resulted in the contract. The 2 yr out is the compromise. Here we are. Mara lives in a completely different world than we fans. The value of the Giant franchise in the last ten years has jumped from $2.1 Billion to about $7.3 Billion. Imagine a business that produces a vastly inferior product yet increases in value 3.5 times. Nice gig isn't it. Mara can afford to give Jones his good boy bonus while the customers get agita.

I'm thinking two also. Progress can mean different things other than W-L. Relieving Jones of his duty is progress. This past draft is proving to be a good one. Maybe it had taken Schoen some time to put in place, and operating his scouting staff/structure. He inherited a team in Cap hell. It takes time to get out of that. Maybe now Mara understands how much damage his "we did everything we could to mess this kid up" declaration did to the franchise, and he learns from it. That would be BIG progress.

"Doing so is something the NFLPA frowns on."

However one of their "clients" Jones, a backup QB at best is making $40MM this year. Can't have it both ways.

He's getting paid $40 Million to really suck at his job. Think about that.

Watching the replay the WR's are running across the field toward Jones' strong side on the same plane(opponents 37-38 yd line). That tells me that this play was planned and practiced. Jones should have known where to immediately look/throw by design.  :o  :(  ~X(  :-??   :suspious:  :what:  Wandale was open by half an acre. The day was saved with the terds losing big at home, even if it was to the boids. The cow cookies are also 0 for home this year. <:-P  Then there is the jets. They may be in worse shape than us. That takes doing. It's imperative we stay ahead of them in the race to the bottom for draft purposes. Most likely they are looking for a QB as well. If they keep protecting Rodgers the way they are then one Sunday they will hold his retirement party on the field.

Quote from: LennG on November 10, 2024, 08:10:30 PMAs I said a while ago, we need to lose every game and acquire that #1 pick. Even if we don't draft a QB that we love, we can manage that into a wealth of other picks.

Thinking the same way, get as close to #1 as possible. Try to harvest rounds 1-3 picks. Schoen so far has had a very good 2024 draft. Maybe he needed time to build his own type of draft/scouting teams in personnel and technology. So far I'm not in love with any of the considered to be top pick QB's.

Quote from: Gmo11 on November 10, 2024, 07:41:32 PMThe way things are looking passing on a QB last year might not be the worst thing. Depends on how you grade Cam Ward vs JJ/Nix/Penix. Since they had no chance at the other three guys. And personally I'm getting higher and higher on Ward with every passing week. Once th season is over I'll dig in more closely but that kid looks GREAT right now. Just gotta make sure the Giants don't accidentally win a game or two along the way

He did not look good yesterday. He had a very Jonesque type of fumble. I'll admit it was the first time I watched him. I was not impressed.

I just called my son at college who I know is watching. He said "I don't know what Germany did to deserve this game".

The league AND the Giant players KNOW that Jones gives them little to no chance to win. Warner has already said several times he didn't see open receivers. When he missed a wide open Nabors on the first drive I thought well it's going to be a long day. I know they are professionals, but it has to be terribly disheartening to play behind this guy.

Quote from: uconnjack8 on November 08, 2024, 11:59:29 AMIf the Giants were scoring as many points as any of those teams they would probably have a winning record right now given their defense is only giving up 22.4 ppg.  So the Giants have a better defense than all 5 teams you listed. The problem is they have the worst offense in the NFL by PPG:

Bengals - 27 PPG
Bucs    - 28.8 PPG
Seahawks - 23.3 PPG
Jags  -  21.7 PPG
Dallas -  21.4 PPG
Giants -  15.4 PPG - Last in the NFL

You are correct, it takes 53 guys.  And the 15th ranked defense doesn't get you much when you have the 32dn ranked offense.  Its not all on Jones, but there is certainly plenty of culpability on his part.

Did you by any chance watch the Bengals - Ravens last night?  Burrow's pocket presence is other worldly on most plays.  He has a poor pass blocking line.  If you missed it, here is all his completions to Chase who had a career night.  There are a variety of different throws, some from a nice pocket some while moving around.  Some deep, some quick short ones thrown with anticipation.

While watching Burrow-Chase last night what stood out for me was Burrow hitting Chase in stride enabling him to RAC. We have another LSU WR, cut from the Chase mold who DOES NOT catch passes from Jones while in stride. Hence Jones leaves his receivers vulnerable, and hurt. There is no "electricity" to our offense because the QB can't find the "socket". A couple of games ago I'm watching and thinking Jones is going to get theses guys killed.

Don't sleep on Brady Cook at Missouri.
