Messages - Giant Obsession

For some reason when I think of Tommy DeVito I immediately flash back to Bart Starr.

17th round draft choice, starting QB in I believe his 2nd year in Green Bay on a team that won 2 games.

Enter Lombardi. who immediately a thirsting Starr badly needed as a HC.  Now Starr was an intelligent young man, average arm with hidden leadership qualities hidden on a lousy team.

Three years later after the hiring of Lombardi they were the World Champs and Mr. Starr was on his way to a HOF legendary career.  So perhaps it is the long lost optimist in me that says why not Tommy.

Now I know Dabs is no Lombardi (not yet anyways) and yes Lombardi was smart enough to recognize talent and know how to build a team and teach it to win....and win....and win.

But for the first time in a long long time I can actually sit down to a Giants game and actually have a glimmer of inner hope.

Forget the draft is you are looking for an immediate replacement at QB.   Best to get us the BPA or an OL.

Find a stop gap on someone elses roster or maybe see what our other 2 QB's on the roster look like.  I realize almost everyone had negative feelings about them but since we ain't on the NYG payroll maybe we could be wrong.   Maybe ???

I'd rather see a year of Lock and Devito than Jones next season, but then I'm not on the payroll either.  And remember the most important thing, no matter the futility we exhibit each season, the franchise keeps growing in value.  Tis the new NFL where winning is not the highest priority.

Quote from: sxdxca38 on November 12, 2024, 11:01:36 AMThis can also affect the Giants draft status as the Cowboys will now tank the season, so it's important the GMEN if possible, lose as many games as possible for that #1 pick.

What position or college player do you think is highest on our need list ??

I have listened to Banks and Papa for years.  Their insight is impeccable.

And for the last 4 or 5 games you can actually hear the disgust both have with this team.  I do applaud John Mara for not enforcing any kind of filter.  Mara does not shy away from criticism.

Coaching, coaching, coaching.

And if the kid is being coached properly and can't or won't do it, find someone who will.  I mean we have a couple hundred TE on our roster don't we.

Last resort, QB throw it away on a a blown up play.  Different QB might help.  So would a coach who will kick em in the butt.

This play is so basic, yet we can not do it.

Is it any wonder we are so inept.  Great example of why we are the worst team in pro football.

HAPPY 100th ANNIVERSARY.

4th and 3 from midfield.  A 2 win team playing the other worst team in the NFL and we punt.

What daring
What guts
What bravado

What a message for your players.

I was just wondering the same thing earlier today.

And sadly it seems more relevant with each passing day.

Quote from: MagicRat on October 29, 2024, 01:52:24 AMQuestion one.
Is there a potential franchise QB in the 2025 draft?
A better question is would we even recognize him ??

Big Blue Huddle / How far down is bottom ???

A cadre of ultra high draft choices the last 5 years and excepting Nabers (for now), only one appears is a difference maker and sadly his m.o. appears to be perpetually injured.

A QB who we hopefully have figured out is not an NFL QB, much less franchise or even pedestrian class.

Another cadre of ultra high draft choices at CB, the latest is writing his own death notice.

Offensive line....please are there any other retreads from other teams  we can overpay to come here and occupy space.  And let us not mention choosing the wrong C in the draft 2 years ago.  Only 2 choices and we choose WRONG.

WR..well hopefully Nabers will calm down shut his mouth and catch the ball.   Wandale uhh not feeling it, and even if I was he's not catching it.  Hyatt, STILL learning to run routes...STILL ????

Tight Ends, hey we bring a million of em and by years end might total 20 catches.  I do hold out hope for Theo, but since our QB does not use the middle of the field or know what a seam route is, the jury will remain out.

DL..our only saving grace with what appears to be a world of potential and an all World DT.  Thibs...fools gold, guess who are the fools ??

LB seems a servicable bunch who play hard.  Simmons, block a kick collect 5 million, now back to the bench.

PK and P enough to fill a small wing in a hospital.

HC please do not make extoll the virtues of a Josh Allen hand me down who has blown FOUR games in the last 2 years.

Joe Shoen, well the airlines love him with all the players he has flown in for "tryouts".  Hey Joe, half of what I see on the field every Sunday look like tryout fails.  Great job with that state of the art draft room.  Npw how about some state of the art scouts.

The current state of this hobby (calling it a franchise would denote some type of business plan is in effect) makes me long for the 1966 season.  At least they entertained and actually put the ball in the end zone.  Heck, that teams 3rd string QB fresh off the minor league sandlots at midseason threw TEN TOUCHDOWN PASSES.

That's enough vitriol for now, time to walk the dog and get ready for another Daniel Jones extravaganza performance.  Against the team I hate the most.  The Redskins.  You see I still remember 72 - 41.  A good hate can last a lifetime.

Thank you all for letting me vent.  I would like to think this will pass, but honestly not with the picture I see in front of me.

BBH Baseball Board / Gerritt Cole opts out

of his $36 million per year contract which has I believe 4 years remaining.  The Yankees have until 5 o'clock Monday to keep him by adding another year to his contract.

Old, now injury prone, and in my opinion vastly overrated he has done the Yankees a HUGE favor in doing this. Add in the fact he no longer goes deep into games makes him just a good pitcher, not some franchise ace who is invaluable.

Time to turn the page and start developing pitching in this franchise.  Of course Cashman just gave away the farm for a 1 year rental.  But still it is time.

A $23 million dollar gamble behind our offensive line ??

Duh.

Even if we do not draft a QB this year there had better be a roster of NO DJ in 2025 or every home game will seem like a road game attendance wise.
