For some reason when I think of Tommy DeVito I immediately flash back to Bart Starr.
17th round draft choice, starting QB in I believe his 2nd year in Green Bay on a team that won 2 games.
Enter Lombardi. who immediately a thirsting Starr badly needed as a HC. Now Starr was an intelligent young man, average arm with hidden leadership qualities hidden on a lousy team.
Three years later after the hiring of Lombardi they were the World Champs and Mr. Starr was on his way to a HOF legendary career. So perhaps it is the long lost optimist in me that says why not Tommy.
Now I know Dabs is no Lombardi (not yet anyways) and yes Lombardi was smart enough to recognize talent and know how to build a team and teach it to win....and win....and win.
But for the first time in a long long time I can actually sit down to a Giants game and actually have a glimmer of inner hope.
