Big Blue Huddle / Re: DJ's current status

I've read reports Jines may ask for his release or be told he can stay away from the team.

Let me say, I don't believe this for a second. One thing Jones is not and that is a bad teammate. He is a Captain and QB. The idea he would just leave the team is absurd. Maybe others would do that, but not Daniel Jones. He's a good teammate first and foremost and these writers who are trying to find stories should be ashamed of themselves.

Quote from: AZGiantFan on November 20, 2024, 09:29:06 PMBut if you're right about DeVito (and my gut tells me the opposite) it will make it harder to draft a top QB prospect in 2025.

Agreed.

To clarify, I'm not saying Devito will light anything up. All I'm saying is I anticipate he shows us more than what Jones has - which will benefit Daboll in a variety of ways.

Quote from: MightyGiants on November 20, 2024, 03:48:41 PMIn my opinion, a wise move by Daboll

I will also add that this sort of move is the type one makes if one is seriously trying to win more games.   I say that, because in my consumption of football media, I have heard speculation that putting DeVito in was an indication the team was actively trying to tank.

I'm gonna be on the opposite spectrum on this one with my blue colored glasses. I think Daboll wants to use Devito here to show if given the right QB then he can definitely be a winning coach here.

Time will tell if I'm totally wrong. If Devito is truly awful then I'll come here and own it. My gut tells me we will be pleasantly surprised (disclaimer - I'm not saying Devito is our future QB because I don't think he is)

Nothing wrong with Daboll not committing to Devito. He should have to earn everything he gets.

Step 1 was getting an opportunity.
Step 2 is playing decently.
Step 3 is getting a win.

Excellent news. We need to have him in as many games as possible to do a good evaluation on him

It will be interesting to see how the Giants team plays this weekend (notwithstanding the QB)...do they play inspired football or do they show flatness?....that could go a long way towards deciding the fate of the coach/GM in terms of the locker room

Quote from: MightyGiants on November 20, 2024, 08:28:01 AMI will share with you that there have been posts where I agreed wth some or much of what was posted.  I refrained from liking the post because there was also questionable content that I didn't want to be seen as endorsing.  For better or worse, as owner or admin, our likes mean more than just our personal feelings, as we represent more than ourselves.

I can't believe you are arguing about a "like" button! Why is it here then?...hitting "like" is not an attack - it's agreeing with a post. In the grand scheme of things it's basically freedom of speech of sorts.

Referring to people as "usual suspects" is antagonist and disrespectful. I myself got in trouble here for referring in the past to "the jones or bust crew"...how is what I got in trouble for anything different than what you posted in this instance?

Quote from: MightyGiants on November 19, 2024, 08:35:12 PMInteresting how you reframed things and how popular the reframing was by the usual suspects.   You essentially removed the "when he is down" part of kicking a man while he is down to create a strawman like claim that criticizing the performance of active Giants is the same as continuing to bash a guy who essentially has been fired.

Jeff, I know you to be an intelligent man and a good person.  I don't know why you would distort the issue so badly with the reframing, nor why you would be an advocate for kicking people while they are down.

One odd thing, DJ by every indication is a good hard working man.  It's amazing how such a man could bring out the lesser side of so many people.

"The usual suspects"??...

I sincerely hope I'm reading this the  wrong way.

Jones is being paid. He's a professional. You don't get to just stay home. That isn't how it works. He would never stay home anyway. He's a good person and a better teammate.

No Andrew Thomas hurts any QB but especially a young QB. But yes I am looking for better things out of Devito with Nabers and Theo along with Hyatt.

Quote from: MightyGiants on November 19, 2024, 02:10:56 PMWhen asked Monday, Daboll didn't sound particularly optimistic that Thibs will return for the Bucs game.

Ugggg...not promising is he's yet another who gets often injured

Quote from: MightyGiants on November 19, 2024, 01:45:54 PMThe current coach of the Pats is also technically a branch on the Belichick tree and his rookie coaching year is going pretty well (considering the level of talent).  Then again, Daboll's rookie coaching season also looked impressive.

To me, I see the Giants as dysfunctional and with a broken culture.  Hiring some younger, hot, first-time head coach is likely to get swallowed up in that dysfunction rather than fix it.  I think the team needs a quality head coach with pelts on the wall who knows what a good culture looks like and has the experience of getting a team to that vision (like Tom Coughlin did when he came here).

I also like Mike Vbrell, who is a pseudo Belichick branch (since he played for him rather than coached under him) as a younger head coach, but he has still shown that he knows how to set the culture for his team.

I wish we were in a position where the team had at least an okay culture, and they could hire the next young hot coordinator, but this team needs more than just a good Xs and Os coach.  They need an experienced alpha with a good vision of how successful football teams operate.

When is the Lions coach Campbell contract up? lol

Quote from: MightyGiants on November 19, 2024, 01:16:24 PMTo be frank, I can't say I am on board with using a team's wins and losses as a QB metric

Hall of Famers Al Davis and Bill Parcells would disagree with you. As will I. If Devito wins this weekend and doesn't have great stats he still gets credit in my book. Conversely, If he looses and has great stats he still shoulders blame in my book.
