Oh I remember Gary Zimmerman. He was a little bitch who with almost no leverage managed to demand his draft be traded. What he gained in a smaller city gave up a team many considered a super bowl contender that went on to win 2. He's lucky to have finally gotten a ring with Denver before he retired. I always rooted against him.

Big Blue Huddle / Re: Evan Neal As A guard

Quote from: 4 Aces on December 03, 2024, 07:59:13 PMI'm usually not a big "question the coaches" guy - but Evan Neal is such an obvious G I have no idea what they're doing. I have to believe it's a political save face move by Schoen.

This guy literally has the tools to be a great G. So frustrating. Not sure why that would be such a bad thing at 7 either.

Maybe it's because we have a obvious need at tackle with both guards making every start? Which guard is moving to tackle?

Again my point is that Mara and Tisch have the money to out bid other teams for assistants to make up for the tax and COL difference.

Who said anything about marketing opportunities for assist coaches.

Quote from: spiderblue43 on December 03, 2024, 12:33:30 PMI'll say this: I don't think Mara will want Deion Sanders haranging staff over Shedurr, which will inevitably happen, plus his entourage. Can't envision that scenario..and I'm not sold on him either no slam dunk.

Cam Ward is a great college playmaker but he has issues, too. Let's pretend we have the first pick of the litter..

Who's your guy?  Best player is Travis Hunter..

What entourage?

Quote from: coggs on December 03, 2024, 07:59:37 AMGolden was not all that good.  Yes, he had sacks.  But most games he had his 1 sack and then was invisible the rest of the game.

How did his replacements fare? It's a trend here to kick players to the curb and think we'll be better.

Quote from: Philosophers on December 03, 2024, 07:52:34 AMEnding contracts cause many players to say things but it certainly does not mean they are not good football players.  If we cant keep and thus accumulate talent then all we do is drain and refill to same level. Hardly a formula to building a playoff team.

You are preaching to my choir but the narrative here is to cheap out with replacements.

Quote from: Philosophers on December 03, 2024, 07:20:25 AMWhy would Giants not put in a claim for such a college talent at least just to kick the tires and see?  Maybe a poor scheme fit or just bad chemistry with a position coach.

For the reasons I posted and that embedded video. He is soft and can't tackle and we already have enough of these flawed players. Move on.

So I guess nobody wants to coach for the Yankees, Knicks, or Rangers because the cost of living is too high and taxes right?

Quote from: MightyGiants on December 02, 2024, 03:43:35 PMDonny,

If Schoen and Daboll survive this season, one would think that people would consider their seats hot staring next season.  So between the two previous hires lasting and average of a season and half and the tenious position of your head coach boss, how attractive would the Giants DC job be?

Use that NYC money advantage and make them an offer they cannot refuse. There is no salary cap for assistants.

Quote from: Philosophers on December 02, 2024, 01:34:28 PMHow about letting the potential Offensive and Defensive Players of the Year leave?

How about going back to early March and counting all the fans here who were happy that no good, overpaid,  malcontent, money grubbing, poor leader, team last player, Xavier McKinney was gone for good? I was one of the few who wanted him back. It was all "his replacement will be drafted", "bum asked for too much money". Like every players will take below market to stay a NY Giants.

Quote from: MightyGiants on December 02, 2024, 08:54:56 AMI was listening to Pat Traina's podcast as I was cleaning leaves yesterday.

Her argument was to retain Schoen and Daboll because a change would be disruptive, and the new team would want their guys to slow down any potential return to competitiveness

She said the only person who should be fired is Bowen because his defense is a bad fit for the players the team has.  I couldn't help but wonder- Daboll hired Wink Martindale, and things ended very badly; Daboll hired Bowen, and things ended worse (if you consider one year worse than two).  Why would be believe that Daboll's third hire would be the charm?

I am confused by what Pat said unless it got lost in translation. A new coach/GM would be OK with not being competitive?  :what:

Totally agree that Bowen must go if there are no other coaching/GM changes. We got stuck with him because the whole "will Wink stay or go charade" got played out over a full week and all the best available DC candidates got scooped up by other teams so Bowen was among the few remaining alternatives. This time he should be canned on black monday (or tomorrow for all I care) and start interviewing replacement right away.

Quote from: killarich on December 01, 2024, 07:14:49 PMIDK how this is even a question

Are we forgetting how long we went without pass rushers ?

Do we not remember when Oshane Ximenes, Injury prone azeez  and idk who else we plopped out there were our starters ? And Markus Golden of all people was our savior

KT may not be the best.. but Pass Rushers are obviously not easy to come by... he's good on run defense and he's already had a double digit sack season

KT hate is wasted energy when we have way bigger problems on this team

You make it sound like Golden was a bad player.

Quote from: killarich on December 01, 2024, 06:14:11 PMI think if we dont resign Van Rotten ... he should at least be given a shot at RG .... the tackle experiment is over ... see if he has a second life at Guard

So we are going to yet let another good player go?

I watched Sanders, Ward and Milroe this weekend and Milroe looked the least impressive. A QB with legs is great, almost a must these days, but he has to be pass first to be taken so high. From what I read Milroe could just stay one more year.

Quote from: EDjohnst1981 on December 01, 2024, 10:30:55 AMI disagree. The cap was an absolute mess, so much so that he faced the Love vs Slayton decision because he couldn't afford both.

Bradbury was also too expensive.

Williams was expensive too - he got a second rounder out of that - I don't think that's too bad.

Yes, Thomas and Dex are very good.

Shame he never inherited a QB. Things might be different.

So Bradbury was too expensive but the Eagles loaded with stars and found room for him just like they did with Barkley yet they play by the same cap rules that we do. Maybe it's some other players that were too expensive who should have been cut. It's just excuse after excuse with this fanbase on why we can't retain our best players.
