Sources: There is "disappointment" among some #Giants players regarding how the Daniel Jones situation was handled over the past week, especially with players aware it was primarily a financial decision by the organization.

Dexter Lawrence publicly stated on Tuesday: "He's the QB1. To me, he's the best quarterback on the team."

One offensive player told me over the phone: "We're not idiots. They did it because of money. So be it. But Daniel has been all class, never complained, and is now being completely disregarded. The TEAM record is bad. You can point fingers everywhere. To try to blame him is trash, and making him third string is weak as fu**."

The sense I've gotten from multiple sources — players, coaches, and executives — is that the issues within the organization go far beyond just one person.

we are such a mess. jones hasnt exactly earned his status as qb1, in fact quite the opposite. but he is a team guy. and you can tell he was respected. i think the team knows they haven't really helped him and they feel guilty/responsible. at the end of the day, its the qb's job to elevate the team, and he has not been able to do that.

Quote from: bamagiantfan on November 21, 2024, 06:40:09 PMIf the Giants won two weekends ago, would they still have benched Jones? Daniel Jones has certainly had his issues this season but the real story of last week lies comfortably in the shade of Daniel Jones' misery.

I think most Giants fans like what they have seen from Tyrone Tracy. I know I have. He runs very tough for a smaller back and looks a bit like Aaron Jones. Unfortunat

if we eek out a win...he's probably still starting. it was not a good game for him, but a win is a win. the loss wasnt on him, but once again, he didnt will us to a win.
I think most Giants fans like what they have seen from Tyrone Tracy. I know I have. He runs very tough for a smaller back and looks a bit like Aaron Jones. Unfortunately, he lost the game for the Giants against the Panthers and likely lost any chance Jones had of retaining his job at QB. His drop on the pass in the flat that wound up being intercepted was bad enough. The fumble in overtime was a killer.

Down 17-7 Jones drove the team down for a TD Jones scored. He then drove them after a turnover only to have his pass to Tracy Jr. intercepted after it bounced off his hands. Despite that, he drove the team again for the game tying FG, only to have Tracy Jr. fumble the game away in overtime - and was the last nail in the NEW York Giants coffin for Daniel Jones. Jones had a great 4th quarter. Tracy had a terrible one. Funny how careers can end on a play or two.

Big Blue Huddle / Re: We Need A QB But…

Quote from: Philosophers on November 21, 2024, 07:31:15 AMDont stretch in draft for a QB just because of need.  If we draft 5th and we dont like the QB options, then draft BPA.  We need more talent.  We get the QB when one is in the right position.

this is my fear. we are going to be picking high and in position to draft one of the top qb's in this class. problem is...last year any of these guys are 2nd round at best. You cant overdraft a qb a round or 2 early...again. That would mean we learned nothing from Jones. Trade down or take a generational talent like one of those cb's.

Quote from: killarich on November 21, 2024, 08:50:32 PMI know this would never happen

But what if when released he does not getting a starting spot on another team

Would you hate him being resigned to backup level qb contract to backup the new rookie QB ??

That...is not the worst thing that could happen. He's a backup level player. What better backup than the guy that was THE guy for 6 years. He knows the system in and out. He has better rapport with the players than anyone else. I would certainly not be against this..but he might be.

feel for the guy. however, no one can even remotely argue he was getting it done. we all know theres other problems on the team, but he rarely, if ever, elevated this team. He wasnt willing them to wins. He knew he was on a job interview every week, and went out in germany and put on an AWFUL performance, during a season where he had few good ones.

He's played i believe upwards of 60 games... no qb in nfl history has gotten as much time as he's had to show he's worth keeping. It's very uncomfortable and unfortunate, but it NEEDS to happen. You gotta see if tommy remotely has the ability to be your starter for next year, because its clear jones will not be. Does he give them the best chance to win still? probably. But he's had far too many opportunities, and dropped the ball far too many times. Carolina should have been a dominant win on an international stage, instead he missed open guys BADLY, or just didnt throw it at all. Everyone has bad games. He has too many of them. And that's that.

I'm not sure hes a guaranteed first ballot hall of famer, but i do believe he will get in at some point. The name recognition, the 2 super bowls, elevating his game when it mattered most, his longevity...he was a staple in the league for nearly 2 decades. High profile player who did what many greats could not...twice.
#7
right or wrong, its overdue. name one other qb in the history of the league that had this long of a rope. most guys that put up his production get 15-20 games. I get it was the perfect storm, but the jig is up. When you can't play at least very good ball against the worst team in the league on an international stage...thats it. He's had his chances. I like the guy and feel bad for him. But this should have ended long ago.
#8
the pickings are extremely slim in the FA pool. maybe mariota? unless we make a trade but who are we really going to target?
#9
No. he's at the tail end of his career. for #1 you want at least half a decade. could he give you that? maybe. he's good, but he's never taken his team to the next level and probably never will. better than what we got, but not worth a 1. maybe a 3 and a 7.

Quote from: MightyGiants on November 11, 2024, 01:31:18 PMI think there are two major differences between the far more successful 2022 offense and this totally dysfunctional offense

1)  coaching and scheme

2) DJ is broken

By broken, I mean he has the yips, he sees ghosts, it's PTSD, he's lost confidence, whatever you want to call it.  DJ isn't the same QB he was by the end of 2022.

All true. He just falls short where it matters. inaccurate throws, late reads... its just not going to cut it.

Big Blue Huddle / Does DJ start next game?

I think the end has come for him. Brutal showing against the worst D, on a world stage. He's been basically on a week by week prove it basis. He failed what should have been an easy test. Badly. Season is over. I think that was the last we see of jones.
#12
i do think so, yes. Probably after someone gets hurt. But yes he will start games next year. Most likely just not here.
#13
hes a rookie on an awful team. not worried about it.
#14
hate to sound like a coach and say "have to look at the tape"...but you cant help but feel like 25 other qb's EASILY make that throw.

daboll has shown nothing in terms of good coaching. i understand jones is a roadblock, but its not like the rest of the team is playing stellar. we suck in every single metric. every single one. we dont do anything well other than lose. if the rest of the team was playing lights out and jones was making horrible int's every other drive i get it. The first one yesterday was pretty bad...should have pump faked it with a guy in his face like that. just bad awareness there. The second one was a bad throw and a bad decision, but it was catchable, and it was just an amazing play by the defender. Bad qb play. But i digress, regardless of jones, the rest of the team is also playing like garbage. Our run D is atrocious. our special teams have been a nightmare all year. awful penalties. I'm sorry, but I'd rip the band aid off and start over. I know they hate doing it and its just been turnover after turnover...but this administration is trash and has done absolutely nothing to warrant any type of good faith.
