Big Blue Huddle / Re: "I do not anticipate"

Bar QB our roster is better than it was when Schoen took over, though his draft picks have been hit and miss. Our coaching isn't. Both are on the GM. Schoen will get another year. Daboll might not IMO but ultimately only Mara and Tisch's views matter.

Day 3 guy to add to the rotation but not higher. We will need a QB, T and CB days one and two plus Edge/DT depth subject to free agency. We also need a bigger WR to round out the group as BF-W is not it. Houston last season and Washington this have shown teams can turn around faster than we think with a suitable upgrade at QB.

Big Blue Huddle / Re: Who will be blamed next year?

Daboll deserves some blame as does Schoen for leaving us with no cover for the worryingly injury prone Andrew Thomas but I think they get one more shot with a new QB, be it a rookie or a veteran FA.

He is a typical highly talented young WR entering the league with loads of hype from a big college. He makes plays. He drops a few too many. He talks a bit too much. He hates losing. It is up to the coaches and locker room to give him Slayton attributes of work ethic and team spirit to round out the talent. It is up to the front office to give him a QB who will not waste him.

Yes and no respectively for me. Daboll is not impressing but an offensive minded HC deserves at least one year with a QB of his choosing before final judgement IMO. Jones is not all the problem but he is quite a lot of it.

It is encouraging that the OL is better without AT being at his absolute best. The IoL is really improving but cannot zone run block to save their lives!

Dexter Lawrence ruins opposing game plans. If Burns and Thibs take a step we could be really dangerous.

I note the quick passing stats against us make it harder for Edges to get consistent pressures but they are likely contributing to Dex's effectiveness by making it more dangerous for QB to try to escape the pocket laterally.

We can hope that our coaches are working on ideas to optimise the trio so on days when Dex is somewhat contained (double teams from a good IoL) the Edge guys then eat.

Big Blue Huddle / Re: Giants O & D Rankings
October 07, 2024, 09:10:19 AM
As context our opponents are a collective 16-9 W-L so a 2-3 record and these stats suggest we are in the ballpark of league average but need a more consistent running game. The D will be tested by the Bengals O next week with Burrow and his WR on fire but the O will have an opportunity against a fragile D so we might see the O and D ranking gap narrow.

The OL is still a work in progress but in pass blocking it is a long way ahead of last year. If they can maintain more consistent run blocking game to game that will help us stay competitive most weeks. Really pleased to see JMS developing, helped by the experience either side of him. Hopefully we can keep the unit fit and they can continue to improve collectively.

6 sacks in five games is ridiculous, even for him. The scheme is helping him (more times off nose) but he is being double teamed at a ridiculous rate (making Burns, Thibodeaux limited impact even more glaring). He is easily the best player at his position in the NFL.

We probably see a fairer share of carries in a true platoon coming off this game. I suspect who is the lead guy will depend game to game on the game plan and opponent characteristics, ant least initially. If Tracy can put more strong efforts on tape he should emerge as the lead guy next season given youth and explosiveness.

Big Blue Huddle / Re: Daniel Jones Final Stats

2-3 and in 4 games out of 5 is probably about par for our talent meaning our QB is neither limiting or elevating us thus far. Let us see how that looks after 10 games.

At least we know that we are limited to a lowish ceiling by our QB. The Jets being bang average with their QB and roster is actually quite impressive. It is a reminder that success is a complex mix of factors that includes QB, other top end talent, roster depth, coaching, organisational strength, 'culture', schedule, luck and more.

BBH Baseball Board / Re: Mets look like hot Garbage

If the Mets can take 2 from 3 in Atlanta they are all but mathematically in. A tough ask but this team has kept grinding through injuries and slumps. A gritty outfit. Let's Go Mets.

Thursday will be interesting. If it is first half Giants v first half Cowboys we will smile. If it is second half v second half we will hide behind our couches. Singletary has to stop fumbling. DJ needs to improve ball placement. D needs to attack not sit back and get eviscerated.
