I mean the cowboys are considering Deion or Belichick, is that really better than what we have currently?

I'm still on the Daboll and Schoen train.

Quote from: ralphpal1 on November 17, 2024, 09:12:38 PMCan you imagine having to explain why he wasn't good enough to draft
Now next year is the real idea how good he can be after they got and studied more tape on him
But he seems to be having a pretty good year
But one year does not make a QB

He also has an Elite Offensive mind for a HC which can cover up a lot of warts.

These are the first things I look at before deciding if I need to do a deeper dive on the prospect in order of importance.

1. Do they elevate the talent around them

For example Eli had really pedestrian teams around him at Ole Miss but put that program on his shoulders willing that team.

2. Does the prospect get better year on year in college.

3. The type of offense ie does the Qb have full command of the offense, and what he's asked to do within it.

4. Does the prospect mainly throw to their hot reads/1st read, or do the use the full field to their advantage?

Most college offenses only use half the field on any given play. If the coaches let the Qb use the full field then they are in full control of the offense and you know they can absorb the information being given.

And number 5 is usually measurable as that can disqualify the best of the rest.

I look at those 5 things before I really start with a deep dive.

Quote from: Philosophers on November 17, 2024, 07:38:49 AMThat is not true.  That's the argument SEC fans make every year.  If an SEC team loses it is because the winning team is good but if other conference teams lose it is because they are bad.

The SEC has had a doninant team at the top (usually Bama but also UGA) but after that the rest of the conference is more like mid-tier of other conferences.  Look at their bowl results over the past 25 years when a mid-tier SEC plays a mid-tier other conference team and there is no dominance overall at all.
I was speaking on a neutral field for this season, any of the playoff contention SEC teams outside Texas Am would beat all of the BIG10 teams with the exception of Ohio St 9 out of 10 times. Oregon just barely survived a Wisconsin team that an average Alabama team Annihlated this year. Indiana has not played anyone and likely gets destroyed by Ohio St next week. Penn St has been in battles with most of their opponents. Needless to say as an Ole Miss fan I'm hoping we draw Indiana, or Penn St in the playoff.

I know the point you were making and I agree, I was simply saying that the qbs of today rarely come out like Josh Allen now.

Quote from: Ed Vette on November 17, 2024, 09:46:41 AMDrew Lock is 6'4", Tommy is 6'2" and Tyrod an inch shorter. I wonder if height had something to do with Lock over Tyrod other than price. Both Tommy and Tyrod had pocket issues last season. All three are mobile.
All the Qbs coming out now a days are 6'2 and mobile. Rarely do we get the 6'4/6'6 traditional drop back passer. They just don't make em that way anymore it seems.

Good thing Schoen and Daboll aren't scared of moxy and swagger, just look at Thibs and Nabers. They were loud but looked at like dominate Dawgs on the field. If it's one thing this organization needs is Dawgs with ice water in their veins.

Quote from: Philosophers on November 16, 2024, 08:58:07 AMI had a friend bet $50 in Tyson.  He thinks Tyson should pay him back.  Some took it serious.  When a boxer comes out with a knee brace on, what do you think is going to happen?
Drake bet 450,000 on Tyson and another 450,000 on Jon Jones tonight.

I'm not fond of her takes, I usually go elsewhere for my Giants info and takes. Might just be a personal preference.

Quote from: DaveBrown74 on November 16, 2024, 07:25:20 PMAgreed on the level of competition Ward has faced. I remember this being an issue I had with Kenny Pickett during his senior year. I'm not saying Ward won't be better than Pickett, but I'm definitely keen to see how Ward looks against stiffer competition. ACC champ game and playoffs are possibilities for that.
Miami, Indiana, and Penn St are all in the top 10 and every one of them would get smoked by any of the 2 loss SEC teams and probably a 3 loss South Carolina team. I mean Georgia isn't Georgia this year and the smoked Clemson game 1 while Clemson has been running ŵild through the ACC.

Quote from: Ed Vette on November 16, 2024, 09:33:31 PMI plan on it. I'd like to see him in a Bowl Game. With some help, it's possible.
I saw him live vs Ole Miss in the peach bowl last year and Ole Miss had an Average Defense. One looked like a pro prospect and Allar didn't. I do think a lot of that has to do with the lack of talent around him but the best supposedly elevate the people around them. He has all the tools without question, I just dont know his mental makeup.

Quote from: Ed Vette on November 16, 2024, 08:18:37 PMI can't say at this point, but If the first pick is top three, I would prefer a QB. I think once it's all sorted out, Milroe may wind up in the top ten. There's just too much hype and too many teams looking for a young QB to develop. This year so far Daniels, Maye and Nix all look like the real deal. McCarthy never had a chance and I expect Williams to get better. Their success is going to have an influence on the 2025 Draft. I think teams will take chances. 4-5 can go off in the top 15. There's a lot more film to watch for me. Can you imagine a scenario where the Giants trade out of that pick? I can.
That's what I am hoping for, us trading for a ransom. The Qbs will push the rest of the board down and there are a TON of defensive and offensive talent on day 2 and 3 this year. Using a transitional Qb this upcoming season and really bolstering the team, with the assets to go all in on 2026.

Nussmeier, Beck, and Ewers aren't in my top 5 currently and I don't think they'll end there either.
