Quote from: Philosophers on November 15, 2024, 04:16:03 AM1st round picks cant be developmental players IMHO.  That's what the 5th round is for.

It can be a little earlier, but I agree with you in principle. Malik Willis was a 3rd Round selection. Green Bay is starting to see the rewards of having some patience and a long term plan for the QB position while Tennessee is trying to exercise some patience now that Levis is their QB. It is easy for us to talk about, but if you are the coach under the Tennessee headset, you don't get paid to be patient. It didn't take long for Shanahan to decide Trey Lance wasn't going to be the guy and turn to the last pick in the draft as the starter. It feels like The Coach at Indy got some direction from above regarding Richardson.

It is hard to call plays for a guy who has only completed more than 50% of his passes once in 6 games. Steichen is probably going to,
1. tell Richardson to do the work and get his a$$ in shape
2. have Richardson take some accountability by addressing the team, perhaps even apologize for his immaturity,  and tell his teammates how things will be different.
3. dumb down the game plan to allow Richardson to complete more passes, rely his legs to get him out of bad plays, and gain some confidence. He has weapons.

Some of those have probably already happened.

We sometimes forget that getting rid of a coach or a player is the easy part that only gets you half way to where you want to go, if that. The constant churn at Coach was part of the problem before Daboll got here. I can still remember the calls for Coughlin to be fired and while I understood it, we have to be careful what we wish for. This team has been looking to get all the puzzle pieces to fit together ever since.

Change isn't always the best answer.

He was always going to be a special athlete and a developmental QB. They have to play him, coach him, and develop him into what they thought he could be when they drafted him. He isn't a finished product. Never was.

Quote from: T200 on November 10, 2024, 07:14:09 PMI didn't include southern Cajun and Creole dishes as they didn't fall into the "international" category.

Yes, I cheated, but I am not as well traveled as others.

All veterans deserve the respect and acknowledgement of a simple "thank you for your service". I don't know of their time spent nor do I judge their service. They did a job that had to be done and it wasn't always done right or may have come at a price. That doesn't matter now. They stood up and did it, not because they wanted to but because it was required. Behind every veteran who gave service to this country are others who rest having never heard those words.

Thank you for your service.

Quote from: MightyGiants on November 12, 2024, 11:37:37 AMEd,

I sort of doubt DJ decided to throw it there, I would think it was more where the ball ended up regardless of his intention.  As for reaction time, I agree I wouldn't have caught that ball.  That, along with a host of other reasons, is why no one is paying me to play football.  Still, the picture shows that regardless of reaction time, Tracy got his hands where they needed to be.   All that was left for Tracy to do was follow through and complete the catch.

While I agree it was a bad pass and not an easy catch, it was still a drop. I'm glad PFF was at least able to look past the yards and admit Taylor had three plays that either did, or could have turned out badly. Two fumbles and a drop that results in an interception should get you a bad grade no matter what you did well. I don't think Taylor was sitting with his face in a towel because of one play. He knew better than anyone that he made more than one mistake that may have cost the team the game.

Quote from: MrGap92 on November 10, 2024, 03:07:53 PMLove the emotion but hate it happened to him, would have rather it be Singletary. He played a great game, terrible icing on the cake
He DID NOT play a great game. He was just the latest Giant with a huge mistake at a critical point in the game. This after a fumble by him out of bounds earlier, and an intersection on a pass behind him that he couldn't catch cleanly or knock down. You could easily make the case that Tayler cost them the game even before the fumble late. There are also several other Giants (Jones, Gano, etc...) that couldn't do the thing they are paid to do.

I'm tired of this team felling sorry for itself. Sh!t happens. Suck it up and play!

You draft to play the games, not the other way around. If the Giants win 2 or more of their remaining games I am sure there are some who will be disappointed because they will slip out of the top few picks in the 2025 Draft. If Daniel Jones plays outstanding and the Giants somehow win all of their remaining games and sneak into the playoffs, there will still be some who will not be happy.

The Detroit Lions. I think we forget Goff was a late addition to the trade and was a stop gap until they found a new QB. They were able to get Hendon Hooker in the 3rd round of the 2023 draft, after his ACL tear against South Carolina roughly two years ago now. Some thought Hooker's success was linked to having Jalin Hyatt and Cedric Tillman to throw to. Until recently (Tillman), it was looking like we all got that backwards as Hyatt and Tillman continued to be disappointments for the Giants and Browns, respectively.

Quote from: Jolly Blue Giant on November 07, 2024, 02:25:56 PMMy first time in New Orleans, I was determined to try crayfish (crawdads). I went out on the patio to watch ships go by and the waitress brought me a huge bowl of them...I mean, like the size of a salad bowl for the whole family. So I quickly learned that you snap off the tail, peel and eat, and discard the rest of the crayfish body. As a pile of them became a heap on the table, a kind gentleman came over and said, "you know, they gave you two bowls, one for the crayfish and one for the discards"...lol. I hadn't realized there were two bowls stacked within each other

I also got to meet Paul Prudhomme (may he RIP) at his famed, K-Paul's Louisiana Kitchen. My blackened steak and red fish was phenomenal, and I told him so. Melt in your mouth with a little kick and that hint of creole

Great food in the good ole U.S.A. that is unique from any other place in the country

Yup, once you've had it there isn't anywhere else that has anything quite like it.

My favorite is chicken gumbo and I make it in the winter the way my dad used to make chili on those cold days in NJ where I grew up. There is an interesting take on spicy chicken and dumplings and I haven't figured out if it is Cajun or Mexican influence. I just know I can't get enough of it.

Mobile, AL has some dishes of their own too. I had an amazing fried Catfish and fried Green Tomato po-boy with remoulade sauce in a family run absolute dive of a restaurant north of the city. Delicious and a perfect fit for the area. I don't know if that was truly Mobile cuisine or not, but I never forgot it. Never had anything like it since either. I've tried to replicate it at home but it isn't the same.

Quote from: Ed Vette on November 04, 2024, 11:12:57 AMSometimes, it's a penalty in a crucial situation that negates a TD or kills a drive, a dropped pass, or it's a critical turnover. It happened again yesterday. It's getting to the point where I'm just expecting it to happen. Good teams are making these plays and not shooting themselves in the foot.

Just one example. Last night in the third quarter, Sam Darnold threw a perfect pass to Jefferson who made a great catch in the basket for about 40 yards, and I was thinking to myself that if it was the Giants, that play has a 10% chance. Why? Well either the Receiver gets pushed to the sideline and can't make the catch, or the pass was short and the receiver had to hold up, or the Defender breaks up the pass, or the receiver drops it. Or, the Official calls a ticky-tack penalty negating a TD.

What's the problem? Coaching and preparation? Lack of focus? Talent? A combination of all of it? 3 games could have gone the other way, and 2-7 becomes 5-4.

I know, you are what your record says you are.

That is what has made this season so frustrating. The improvement is there. The signs are there. The Giants just can't get out of their own way. When you get in these tight games, it is easy to look at the officials, but it is a tight game because the receiver lost track of the sideline, or another KICKER gets hurt during the game!  ~X( So I'll give the officials some slack. Just don't get me started on how they can call every little tug of a shoulderpad and brush of a facemask in one contest while another crew mysteriously doesn't see anything in another.

Maybe we will find a little joy this Sunday, even if it is only listening to Germans sing a few John Denver songs.

I feel your pain Ed.

The only fallacy is that you need a top 3 pick to get one. From Bart Starr to Brock Purdy and all the Staubachs, Theismans, Bradys, and Cousins in between, that has never been the case. Find the guy that fits the system you want to run. San Diego was done with Drew Brees and drafted/traded for Ryan Leaf to be the future of the franchise. Only a couple of teams even looked at Brees and he failed his physical with one, only to land in a perfect situation in New Orleans.

The Giants thought Jones was that guy. He wasn't, at least not here. If Daboll is back next year Shoen should be going after the guy Daboll wants. It is hard to separate Daboll's performance from Jones'. It is time to separate them. If at first you don't succeed...

Big Blue Huddle / Re: Trey Lance Anyone?
November 08, 2024, 09:37:29 AM
When you consider the 49ers gave up on him so quickly and he is still behind Cooper Rush on the depth chart in Dallas, it is hard to imagine why anyone would want him. He is a helmet full of unfulfilled promise.
