Big Blue Huddle / Re: Giants VS Panthers game thread

Hahahahaha.  OMG.  Now THAT is the Giants we didn't see for the past few minutes.

Guys, I admire you rooting for the Giants to win.  But to me, clearly, we are best to lose and hopefully Jones will be benched forever after the bye.  It would be typical Giants to see him get hurt against the Colts in January and then we can't cut him.

Can't wait to come back and win and hear Daboll and everyone crow about our amazing victory, and how Danny Euros lead the team back to a win.  This team never ceases to make me ill.

I'm surprised with some of the takes on here.  I thought the Rangers last night were atrocious.  No pressure, no physicality.  Florida hit every Ranger, every time they could.  Other than Cuylle a few times, I remember very few Ranger hits.  You can't dump it in the offensive zone and expect to retrieve the puck without playing the body hard.  And their passing to get out of the defensive zone was poor.

This team has been league average at 5v5, and unless they get a decent amount of PPs or Igor steals a game, they look very pedestrian against top teams.  They have now been outshot in 8 straight games.

I said all along I wanted Boston instead of Florida.  And unless the Rangers change and up their game quickly, this one is going six at best.

Rangers fans were WAY too optimistic after the first three games of the series.  All were one goal wins, and two in OT.  Taking nothing away from the Rangers, as they did win, but they were not dominant in any way.

Starting in game three especially, the Canes played with a ton of energy, purpose, and desperation.  As you would expect.  Rangers matched them pretty well in game three and won.  Didn't match them nearly as well in game four, but again, you would expect that a team down 0-3 would have a ton more energy and desperation.  And a team up 3-0 might let up a bit (even though you never should take your foot off your opponent's neck, but alas, we are human too).  Even so, except for a late penalty, we could have won.

Once they lost their first game of the playoffs, I then expected game five to have them come out looking to obliterate the Canes and for the garden to be rocking.  Neither happened.  The garden seemed quiet all night (maybe it was the ESPN audio, who knows) and the Rangers were completely listless.  Zero energy, zero offensive pressure.  I don't remember one shot on goal, except the Trouba shorty, that was a high danger shot.  And ZERO physicality, except for the Trouba hit.  This is not the old Rangers teams from the past that were small and pushed around.  Kreider, Trocheck, LaFren, Cuylle, Vesey, Rempe, Goodrow, Lindgren, Schneider, Trouba... all bigger / chippier / willing to mix it up guys, and virtually NONE were to be seen.  If the Canes want to dump and chase and hit the Rangers D, not to mention take some liberties, then I expect these guys to stand up and pummel them into the boards.  But they are letting the Canes be physical with them and have zero pushback.

This team BETTER be flying in Game 6.  Better be hitting everything that moves.  Better be driving play.  The time is now for them to be desperate, aggressive, angry.  Because this is very close to a winner take all game seven, and after the third period last night, the Canes believe 100% they can win this.  Including that arrogant punk ass DeAngelo.  Time to take care of business.... and this will be just a blip.  That this was a good thing for them to get punched in the mouth and have some adversity to overcome... better to have that when you are up 3-0 than in the next round when you don't have as much cushion.  But this team needs a leader and I am not sure we have someone that can even partially emulate Messier and get them through this.

Sorry for the length of this..... I needed to vent.

Defensive zone play in the 3rd was atrocious, but considering they are down three defensemen, likely not a shock that things might be catching up with them and Igor's ability to always bail them out.  That they keep finding ways to win though is huge.  As is the walking wounded coming back soon to fortify the defense.

Big Blue Huddle / Re: Rate the Brian Burns trade
March 13, 2024, 11:10:19 AM
I rated it a 4.  I don't love that contract, mostly because how long will it be before the Giants are legitimate contenders?  Before the massive step back last year, I thought that if Jones, etc kept progressing off of two years ago, maybe the Giants could make some noise this year. Now, forget that.  So, will Burns be 30 before we can legitimately compete?  Will he even be on the team by then, or be a cap casualty?

We are essentially rebuilding, so I would much rather draft than spend big bucks on FA's.

Is there any way that we could export this thread into an email or something so we could share everyone's posts and thoughts with his family?  A mass or sympathy card is nice, but those are just pre-written words.  What people typed here was from everyone's hearts and may provide some comfort to his family.

So very saddened to hear of this news.  I didn't know Jim, but sounds like he made the world a much better place.  And considering all the evil in the world right now, we couldn't afford to lose a man like that.

May you rest in peace Jim and enjoy talking to all the angels about Giants football.

Ten different analysts will have ten different picks for the Giants.  And Jerry is going to multiple pro days.  I can post something too that says that my "sources" suggest the Giants will pick _____.

Maybe he will be right in the end, but 33 years of drafts with no 1st round LB and the Giants' preference for DE and CB suggests he will not be correct.  Besides, who knows of someone of interest will slide to 23 and throw off the entire assumption he has.

Best Player Available. There are no guarantees in life and in football. I can see them picking a OT, DB, WR...but DT would make the most sense if the player was a starting caliber 3T.

Agreed.  Because there are no major holes in the roster now except for DT, I can see them going anywhere in Round 1.  That is why filling major holes in free agency is so important... it allows us to draft for value and not need.

I really like the idea of Massie, although I suspect that the Giants would not go in that direction so quickly after taking Brewer.  Not that I think Massie is not better, but that I don't see the Giants going for another RT type and giving up on Brewer so quickly.

FWIW, I would love an OT, but I suspect that the Giants are comfortable rolling with Beatty, Diehl, Brewer, and Locklear for this year.  Just my suspicion.

Guys, I have two about 10 rows from the field.  Great seats.  With a four year old, busy job, and stuff around the house, I am at a point where getting to a game is a time commitment that I cannot make too much right now.  I try to get to the big games (Eagles, Cowboys), but most other games I cannot get to right now.  Let me get my tix in the mail and make sure no one else I know wants any tix first, then I will be more than happy to discuss with the board.

Mighty, thanks for letting me know.  Definitely would like to meet up sometime with some of the crew.
