A quality RT would be outstanding in FA. I thought I saw Stanley in FA lists.  Elumenor was competent as a back up LT if AT goes down again.

Quote from: babywhales on January 27, 2025, 11:58:40 AMit is much more important to hit on the 3 selection than it is to risk hitting on Sanders just because he is a QB.

He better be the top player on their board at 3 if they take him.  If carter, hunter, Graham or Johnson are rated higher on the Giants Board I would much rather take 1 of them, then reach for Sanders.

If Sander's ranks top 8 or so, I'd be ok with a small reach for such a critical position.  But with some of our knowledge posters and others ranking him possibly 15 to 20, I'd say pass. It's too hard for the average layman to discern.

2023 I'd keep him. Last year he fell off.  I'd shop around. If there's an upgrade at a reasonable price, take it. Pinnock is not a weak link, but he doesn't upgrade the team either

I think it was honorable to endorse Jones as he passed the torch. Would we expect any less from Eli? I'd welcome his ability to scout a QB.  Obviously his family has excelled in this.

Didn't we have coaches coaching at some big games last year too?  Perhaps this helped with our successful draft?

Quote from: TDToomer on January 13, 2025, 07:57:34 PMWhat makes everyone so sure that Dart will even be available a the beginning of the 3rd round? What if someone like the Rams grab him late in the 2nd round?

I think 3rd would be ideal, but 2nd is reasonable in my view.  The QB decision will certainly be a tough one to get right

Great thread Jess.  As usual, I love the insight from those of you who follow college games.  I see the three big needs as QB, O line and D line. Id like to double down on all three by picking up a FA and a draft pick.  Obviously, the FA QB (Fields?) will be a bridge. I'd love a top 2 QB in the draft, but if the Giants agree with many of the posters here the talents not top 3 worthy, a Milroe or Dart in 2 or 3 will work
What worries me about the O line is AT not being durable. Would love to groom a future LT in draft if possible.

If AT did not have reliability concerns, I'd be happy with our tackles and Phillips as the swing and drafting a guard With AT a concern, I'd like to draft a tackle in round 2 or 3 that can start at Right Tackle, Elumenor to guard, then move to LT if AT goes down.

Deonte Banks has me worried.  As a 1st rd corner, he's underwhelming thus far.   I know it took Webster till year three, so there's still hope.  I'm happy with Dru and ok with Flott if he can stay healthy

Quote from: Philosophers on December 30, 2024, 01:03:13 PMI am with you guys about the need for a shutdown CB, DT and OL.  Here are my thoughts.

Shutdown CB - I think Will Johnson is the cleanest prospect in the NFL Draft.  I believe he may be Sauce Gardner good.  He's got size at 6'2" and between 200-205 pounds, speed (both straightline, closing as well as recovery), great hip flip and wonderful instincts on a ball.  He's had multiple INTs for TDs.  I've seen him play a ton being a Michigan fan.  He is very aggressive in providing run support and is not afraid at all to tackle.

DT - Mason Graham is a beast.  Plays at 6'3" 320 pounds.  Has a really quick burst with strength and a nonstop motor.  Last year playing with Mazi Smith who was a Feldman Freak and explosive college player, I thought that Graham outplayed Smith hands down the entire season.  Pairing him with Dexter Lawrence would go a long way to solving our porous run defense.

OL - Here is where I see some problems.  There is a lot of talk that Will Campbell out of LSU may have short arms and may need to be projected more as a Guard than where he has played at OLT.  I saw him play against Alabama and he did not wow me at all.  Kelvin Banks is also getting a lot of press but he is another one folks are saying may be a better Guard.  I do not see a really clean OT as a round 1 pick.  My favorite OL prospect that I've seen a few times that I really like is Tate Ratledge out of Georgia.  He's huge at 6'6" 320 pounds.  He plays with great strength and movement.  He gets real push on an opposing DL.  As an interior blocker on runs, his movement is really good for things like combo blocks.  I have not seen him much as a pulling guard however for any blocking scheme that involves running between tackles, I think he's a very good candidate.  His pass blocking is good as well as he can go man to man against interior DL and not get pushed back all the time plus he has enough lateral movement for twists.  His only problem as I can tell is that he has been used something like 98% of the time as a Right Guard so he may not offer positional versatility.  That versatility means less to me if he is a really good ORG which I think he will be in the NFL.  I believe he will be a day 1 starter.  He's probably a 2nd rounder.

Fantastic post!  Thanks!  My order of preference would be QB, OT, corner , DT. As much as I want the first 2, it would be foolish to blatantly reach. Would be ok with the corner and DT in this scenario as best available talent.  If we are   not within reach of top 2 QBs, must get a solid FA signing.  Im ok with AT and Elumenor at tackle, but the depth at a minimum needs help

This is a huge red flag on coaching to me.  Kudos to changing to improve the run D.  But it would have been even better to do when you had the best DT in the game healthy.

Geez, so many mistakes.  The mishandling of the QB decisions, mismanagement of poor drafting, failure to fix o line. The most recent one was signing Jones and not franchising him for a year.   I'll say this though, the Giants O line in 2008 was a masterpiece built by Accorsi.  It got old in 2011 and has been broken since then.

Quote from: LennG on December 16, 2024, 11:53:29 AMI read an article somewhere (???) that had an interesting thought. Could the Vikings trade JJ McCarthy, now that Darnold seems like a great fit for the Vikings? They are 11-2 with Darnold and are they really ready to pack him in and start over with a rookie?
This article suggested that MAYBE the Giants try to trade for him. What might McCarthy cost in a trade, already injured, maybe a 3? I know they passed on him in the draft, but many say he is still better than any of the QBs in next year's draft.
Again, just a thought, but if we could get McCarthy for a #3, we could draft Hunter #1 and that would be a great start for next year.
Thoughts?
If the medical is clear, I'd give a 2 and be happy.

Ugggh.  One good game from Tre, was looking to see what he has down the stretch.  If Tre and Flott pan out, that alleviates a need at corner. As it stands, there are too many risks durability wise with both of them.  Even Dru and Deonte have missed some games.
