Quote from: LennG on November 16, 2024, 11:51:48 AMAtlanta has to move on from Cousins as they drafted Penix #1. Would you trade our #1 pick to Atlanta for him? If we did, we could have a decent enough QB for the next 5 years and then draft a QB in a lower round for suture consideration.
I don't know draft day values, but Cousins can win and isn't that the point?
No absolutely not

Exactly.   Football is a business and Tommy will put people in the seats for the rest of year and Mara Tech won't be faced with an empty stadium the last couple of home games .

Quote from: MightyGiants on November 18, 2024, 09:07:27 AMWith the Giants starting DeVito, I really wonder why the team wasted $5 million on Lock and how good are Schoen and Daboll at identifying QB talent (if they spent $5 million on Lock only to start DeVito)
Me too......sounds like a coach and GM feeling pressure...they know that Devito may scrape out  a win or two down the stretch.....but putting Lock in and losing ala Jones and or winning more than a couple of games might signal to some that their evaluation process and coaching decisions on playing personnel are very suspect.
Which I think is the case either way.
The decisions not to keep some good starters , Love, McKinney and of course Barkley for example .....and not to have adequate replacements or newcomers with promise ( exception being Tracy) and not properly addressing the o line (as well as drafting very average at best lineman with relatively high picks). While all the time saying and paying Jones as "the guy" .
Ugh!

Smart people around the league and knowledgeable football people in media etc. on the outside of Giants "brain trust" previously known in years past as "Mara Tech"  see the shortcomings of Shoen and Daboll.....
Yes There should be some pressure on both of them and they know they have to produce a better product soon...will that happen another year with a better QB ? Maybe , maybe not.

But how this team plays with a different QB for the remainder of the season will give all a good answer to the question, who should be making decisions for the Giants next year.

Two things remain a constant for the Giants...
1. Every close game won or lost  you need to say in the words of Yogi "it ain't over til its over"
And
2. There is never a dull moment with this team ...

Meanwhile it seems like one the best coaches in league scores 20 points or less each week and ends up 10-6 or better every year.

Because nobody in the d backfield turn s to look for the ball....and that is because they are too bust chasing the guy they are covering.

Quote from: Giantleap56 on November 15, 2024, 08:41:36 AMThis is why you fire the GM. He should have traded Barkley when he had a chance. To have him in the same division and tormenting the Giants is borderline sabotage on the GM's part. What Schoen lacks is a vision for the Giants and that is one of the General Manager's biggest goals.

I have been watching Eagles /Washington game.   Barkley is really good.   Giants need a guy like that!

Quote from: LennG on November 13, 2024, 11:34:54 AMVery interesting article in today's Newsday by Tom Rock who says the Giants would be much better off going after a veteran QB and not a rookie.

https://www.newsday.com/sports/columnists/tom-rock/joe-schoen-giants-p1kmqe95

He likens it to the Kerry Collins days when we brought in a veteran and went to the SB soon after.
I have been saying that for some time
Get a decent veteran Qb and see what this team has for offensive talent,  draft a young guy if they like one and let him sit and learn.  If Jones has been the problem holding the offense back( I think he is ) then a good vet would fit the bill for a year or so.

Lots of blame to go around ...for sure....Jones, yes, O line still an issue ,yes , undisciplined play costing Giants games and momentum at times , yes, defense doesn't t make a stop when needed , many times, play calling , yes ........and on and on .

What is common demoniator with all of these issues?  the coach ....who insists on playing Jones , who himself seems to call plays out of no where at times that makes no sense , fields an unprepared team , and allows his team to make the same stupid mistakes week after week. Has created a culture of losing that gets worse every week.
In my opinion, Daboll has the rest of season to show the following to Giant fans and Mara.
1. Change QBs
2. show us he knows how to call plays that may have better chance of execution than they do with Jones.
i.e. Jones not seeing or getting the ball to wide open players etc.
3. show us he has not lost locker room by having his team play hard despite losing record.
4. show us his team can play some clean games ...by that I mean , few penalties etc.
5. show us he made right decision getting Wink out and new guy in .Get a friggin interception for crying out loud.
6. try to win a couple of games down the stretch...meaningful games against good opponents.
I know it will ruin draft position...but if they really like a QB next year they can make it happen .ala, Eli Manning trade.
7.  show Giant Fans he is the guy going forward by proving it with this team,( his players 3 years in )
remember he won coach of year with the majority of hold over guys from team when he came here.

If he cannot show us many of the above ...than why should Mara keep him? Start fresh with new coach and His QB whoever that may be ....it will not be Jones.

Quote from: babywhales on November 10, 2024, 02:35:26 PMDaboll delusionally had  a moment were he thought he could pull tricks out of his sleeve and forgot the ineptitude that surrounds a Jones run offense
Exactly.   Why keep a coach that continues to believe in a team that is not good and not disciplined.
2-8 really after three years.
At end of day blame any player you want but the buck stops with head coach because his has been responsible for the product he puts on the field. Period and after three years it should be better.
What makes anyone think it will be different (better) if he continues to coach....again he is the guy sticking with Jones and all the other players on this team.team is very indisciplined on the small things they do game after game.

Giants are the only team that can lose a game that way
