Quote from: MightyGiants on November 14, 2024, 08:45:04 AMThat is an interesting theory, but DJ's successful season under Pat Shurmur (albeit with rookie turnover issues) ruins it.   It wasn't like Daboll and Shurmur were running the same offense.

MG, my opinion on this has always been we will get a better idea of whose idea it was to extend jones at the end of the season. If Daboll and schoen get fired I would surmise it was their decision. If they don't it will support my feeling that jones was forced on them by mara, mara knows that and will give them a chance with a qb of their choosing. I think this is what happenned and schoen did the best he could by making it a 2 year deal. I'm hoping at this point we don't win any more games as I've seen the meaningless wins movie before. Daboll offense has a million guys open. He just doesn't have a qb that will throw it to them. The line looks better and even though the improvements haven't shown up in the win column as of yet I think you stay the course and let the coach and GM grow.

Quote from: katkavage on November 09, 2024, 06:51:08 PMYou guys don't understand. If Daboll and Schoen do not address the QB situation this off season they will be gone. They painted themselves into a corner by not taking one this past draft.

This team always does things ass backwards. Draft a rb (Barkley) with no OL and draft a WR when you have no one to throw it to him. Barring a miracle middle round qb pick which turns out to be a Brady, dak or Wilson type this team is screwed for years to come.

Quote from: DaveBrown74 on October 28, 2024, 05:51:35 PMI doubt they threw this clause in just to be nice. I suspect it was part of the negotiation process. Jones was driving a hard bargain during that process and wanted a $47mm AAV, and the Giants were able to get him down to $40mm. They also structured it in a way that enabled them to wiggle out of it with manageable damage after just two years. I have to believe this injury clause was the result of that negotiation.

I think they need to protect the interests of the organization. Jones is still going to get a $92mm guarantee in just two years that I really don't think he deserves (or ever deserved). He can never work another day in his life and he's set. The Giants owe him absolutely nothing. If he wants to continue playing, how about he waive the injury clause?

Well said and absolutely right Dave! Jones stinks and his contract stinks worse.

There is some young blood competing to make the team this year and I hope drury puts some of them on the team. Namely Othman, Edstrom and Mancini for starters. Drury badly bungled the trouble situation but needs to move him as soon as possible along with Lindgren

Quote from: MightyGiants on September 11, 2024, 03:10:32 PMFor those not answering the questions but simply saying that DJ stinks, I have a question for you-  What does that say about Brian Daboll and Joe Schoen, who have had DJ as their starter for the past 3 seasons?

MG, The answer to the question I'd like but won't get is how much influence mara had on giving jones that contract. At the time I felt Schoen was ready to let him walk until he was signed. Although Schoen has not done a good job with his draft picks looking like a miss on 5 and a huge miss on 7. Banks, another first round pick also is not setting the league on fire and Schmitz is not looking good either. Dabolls play calling Sunday was mystifying. If you have that little confidence in jones which might be the case put one of the other not so good qb's in then.sundays game from an offensive standpoint was unwatchable. I though the line wasn't terrible but at this point Danny check down may be suffering from David Carr battered qb syndrome. Unless the team completely implodes to the tune of 2 or 3 wins I think both Schoen and dabbol are safe and will draft their qb in the next draft. once that's done they will get 2 to 3 years to seee how the new qb and the team progresses. This will be a long season. I thought they'd win 6 including last weeks game and this week in Washington. If they lose to Washington with the next 6 games upcoming all bets are off!

If we lose to Washington and he stinks again they need to make the change for game 3. This team has too many holes to be going anywhere and god forbid he gets hurt we're stuck with him for another year which would be an absolute killer! If we win Sunday unless he looks a lot better I would still make the change. The other 2 qb's aren't any great shakes. I just want to make sure we're not stuck with jones for another year!

Very costly win for the rangers last night. Fox goes to LTIR with what is rumored to be a sprained MCL. I understand he has to miss at least 10 games. Chytil to IR with what is rumored to be a concussion which would be very bad news for him as it would be his 4th or 5th concussion in the last 2 years and if so will be gone for a long while. And last but not least Domingue brought up from the minors as Igor banged up and looks like quick may be the goalie for a little bit. Next time we play the canes AHO should call in sick as he will be a DEAD MAN!

Great recap Jaime. I taped it and will watch it later

Watching the preseason games it is painfully clear that we are a slow team. I wasn't a big fans of gallants drop the pucks and go get 'em boys coaching philosophy. Also, he let the veterans especially panerin run all over him. I think kakko takes a big step this season, same with Chytil if he can stay on the ice. Laf, unfortunately I don't see the speed or shot necessary for him to be a major plus and eventually be traded elsewhere. Glad cuyyle made the team and feel shortly Othmann will be joining him. Igor's numbers should be much better as lav will actually have the team playing defense. Miller is another key to take nother big step forward. Would like to see him a bit more physical with his big body and not so much stickchecking but it is what it is. I think we make the playoffs and once in with a goalie like Igor anything can happen. After watching my awful yanks and giants really looking forward to our rangers giving us a good season. We play 7 of the first 9 on the road including a long west coast trip. I think that will be good for team bonding and give a pretty good indication of what kind of season we're going to get!
