This team is starting to become horrificly unlikable.

I'd like to know who specifically is saying this, so I don't have to apply the loser mentality to the entire team. But we've got some real sad sacks.

The losing is in the walls now. It's being rationalized everywhere you look. How to fix is anyone's guess! I'm beginning to understand why George Young was forced on the org decades ago. They can't have the biggest market in the world being incompetently managed, with a loser mentality. But here we are.

That's right MightyGiants. Treading water might be an improvement. If you're simply swapping out good players for new good players AND your draft picks aren't developing AND you're losing good coaches, you sink.

Schoen's taken a massive swing at this thing and the boat's sinking. He showed his inexperience big time and the PC looked like a man feeling the pressure.

Schoen's had 3 top 10 picks and spent $350M+ in guaranteed contracts over the last 2 years. (Among the most in the NFL.)

The resource outlay has been insane.

Knowing Jones wasn't the guy, he should've re-signed Barkley and McKinney AND drafted Nabers AND traded for Burns. Tight cap? Sure. But the strategy is strong roster/rookie QB offsetting costs. You don't make a bad roster better by swapping out good players.

Wondering why the Giants O isn't any better with Nabers? They lost Barkley and Waller. Giants D no better with Burns? They lost Wink and McKinney.

Schoen isn't building anything. He's treading water.

And as usual, the year they are looking for a QB, there won't be a Superstar type in the draft.

Happened the year they took DJ, too. They wanted Herbert but he went back to school. Probably to avoid playing here.

These are the little, less obvious things you see around the Giants that show a rotten foundation. They had to cut a versatile CB who is a good special teams player because they needed a few $$$ in cap space midseason (a 2-7 team), and had been hounding him for weeks about it. Some real wizards in financial operations.

I haven't watched much Chiefs football but they have arguably the best defense in the league. Spags is really good when he has his pieces in place, and he does.

The other thing that jumps out is the Michael Jordan treatment they get with the officials. The Giants get screwed every week by the officials, while the Chiefs seem to get every call when they need it. It's part of the reason I rarely consume NFL football unless the Giants are playing. Crooked league.

I agree.

Fundamentally, the Giants play in an outdoor northeast stadium. Their style of team should reflect that. I couldn't care less what the league trends are.

Power run game, deep shot play action passing. Dominant DL. Build your program with this style of team in mind, year after year. Eventually you've got a team full of the same style guys rather than a random collection of talent. Parcells and Coughlin both understood it.

And guess what? It still works. It always will.

I respect Daboll - but let some dome team with a hot shot QB use his shotgun heavy approach. It's not a fit here.

The OL is a 5-fingered glove.

The bigger story was the overall OL falling apart when EZ replaced AT, who required no help. That help could then go to the interior guys, or RT.

These are a bunch of JAGs that look functional with a Pro Bowl LT. Without it, you saw cracks up and down the line again.

Sorry guys I can't say where I heard it, but I was told they are trying to get something done at the deadline involving QB. Take it with the necessary grain of salt.

Mara sees the light with DJ now.

Fletch - the Giants. They're trying to do something.

Look out for a potential huge QB move at the deadline. Something's up.

Ezeudu stunk at G, too.

It's (along with Neal) another illustration of how unscientific the draft is. Ezeudu's college coach raved about his pro potential. Size, athleticism, technique and passion for the game. Versatility and leadership abilities too.

None of it materialized. Of course, I'm also a big "circumstances" guy.

The Cowboys had Neal as their #1 rated player overall. They would've just plugged him in at LG and he'd be All Pro right now. The Giants had a historically bad OL and needed him to play RT and within that context, he's been a massive bust.

Another strangely managed situation.

The Giants didn't want to change 2 positions, so they put a terrible LT on the field as an alternative.

I can see not wanting to change 2 positions if it's for a few weeks, but Andrew Thomas is out for the f#$@ing season. There's 11 games left. You are basically starting over up front now - and you owe it to the football team to put the best guy at LT and reconfigure the approach. Instead they go back to having a disaster player on the field.

If they are going to have a disaster player - let it be Evan Neal who was a top 10 pick. Maybe he has an epiphany.

If after 3 years he is still unplayable at RT, move him to G already and try.

Nothing this team does makes sense.

Quote from: Philosophers on October 21, 2024, 10:59:01 AMEvery owner gives their opinions on players, talent, etc.  They all are involved.  Stop thinking that what Mara does is unusual in football.

Yup. That's all businesses, all walks of life. A good GM (any business) knows when to stand their ground and give the appropriate pushback. If Schoen disagreed with anything Mara said, but was unable to have the presence and backbone to go a different direction, that means he's not suited for the job.

In any event, we know most of this is BS. Anyone who saw Hard Knocks knows Mara wanted to keep Barkley and he's not here anymore. Schoen got his way. This is Schoen's roster.

coggs - and look at the deep middle. They don't even try.

That's literally unbelievable. Every DC in the league has this chart and that's why all the other areas of the field are clamped down.

They KNOW the Giants will not attack the intermediate/deep middle.

That's the anticipation throw DJ just can't hit. The seam route and the deep in. Eli was masterful at that throw. You have to throw the guy open into the middle of the field, with anticipation. All the QBs do it. DJ can't. These are the big boy throws an NFL QB has to make.
