Quote from: Philosophers on Today at 07:56:09 AMTheir contract lengths are the definition of bridge and certainly not long term.

Also what the Giants did from September to December going to Shedeur's games has little relevance to their current situation now that they have W and W.

I think it's worth noting that it appears that much of the information about the scouting from the Giants is coming from Colorado.  I would think that Deion Sanders had a vested interest (in terms of helping his son) in broadcasting the Giant's strong interest in his son.

So, while we know that the Giants heavily scouted Sanders, there's a good chance they were heavily scouting the other top QB prospects as well.  I would say it amounts to scouting malpractice if Schoen decided he liked one prospect a lot and focused more scouting efforts on him rather than scouting all the prospects to determine who he liked best.

Hunter will be a CB in the NFL. I don't see a scenario where he would play, or even split time, as a WR. IMO, if he was a WR only, he would be a mid to late first round pick. His cover and ball skills as a CB have him at the top of the draft.

This is an interesting and fascinating thread. I am extremely excited about Wilson, particularly as he relates with Theo and Hyatt. Maybe he won't wear out his welcome as he begins to understand the road is not long and he can use this opportunity to reset part of his legacy.

I think we forget Dante Miller is still here. His speed was the talk of camp last season and the Giants kept him all year on the PS after not playing football for 18 months due to an NCAA mix up that made him ineligible for the 2024 draft. Assuming he added some weight during the year, as most RBs do their rookie season, he could find his way onto the roster as a backup if he can contribute on special teams. Short, but not small (5'9", 200lbs) with good hands, and according to the reports from camp last season "the fastest player who has ever been here."

What are you hearing around the league on what the Giants will do at No. 3?

Miller: I'm hearing quarterback, even after signing Russell Wilson to a one-year deal. A scout told me, "New York loving Shedeur is the worst-kept secret in the league right now." According to that scout, the Giants had a presence at every Colorado home game this season. The Wilson and Jameis Winston deals shouldn't prevent the Giants from drafting a quarterback at No. 3 if one of the top two passers is available. But should Ward and Sanders both be off the board, the Giants will be a premier destination for Colorado's Travis Hunter, given the team's needs at wide receiver and cornerback.

Reid: Yeah, based on what I'm hearing from sources, finding a young QB is still at the top of the priority list for the Giants. Wilson and Winston help the team cover its bases if Ward and Sanders are not on the board, but signing them doesn't necessarily keep New York from drafting a QB.

As Matt pointed out, the team could pivot to Hunter or Penn State's Abdul Carter with its pick. General manager Joe Schoen was aggressive in addressing the team's secondary issues by signing cornerback Paulson Adebo and safety Jevon Holland in free agency. Hunter could get into the mix, while also pairing well with wide receiver Malik Nabers for a dynamic duo on the perimeter on offense.

Yates: I think we're all in agreement, though the Giants taking a QB is much less certain now than it was a few days ago. Does the team believe that it has done enough to address its need at quarterback long term? It's just really hard to imagine that's the case given the one-year length of Wilson's deal.

Quote from: Painter on March 28, 2025, 09:15:13 PMSeems like they were ware as they have already bought the guy even if he wasn't your guy.  Still, they are paying him for just one year at backup money, so is it such a friggin' big deal? And if he doesn't cut it right away, rubs the wrong way, he still can't be any worse than Daniel Jones, can he? And even so, it will be Jameis to the rescue. Of course, if does do well, he might then eclipse Eli, huh? The Eli who will be in the HOF long before Wilson is even considered ?

There must be something I'm missing which might then worry me but only if it makes you feel better.

Cheers!

Exactly, Lawrence. They have themselves covered for a worst scenario, where they draft a QB in the Second Round or their first third round pick. That QB won't start this year, Russell Wilson will play all year unless he gets hurt. Winston will start or be the backup in 2026 to the Drafted player. It gives a developmental QB plenty opportunity to learn. So unless, Wilson is a Choir Boy and takes the Giants to unexpected heights, he's auditioning for a final big package for his next team. He's got to be too intelligent to know that he can't screw this opportunity up.

Quote from: 4 Aces on March 28, 2025, 06:34:07 PMIt's buyer beware.

Wilson has a terrible reputation in the NFL. The Steelers are an extremely well-run organization that needs a QB and they couldn't wait to get rid of him even though he QB'd them to the playoffs and played well in the game. It was get out. Now.

He rubs people the wrong way. He wanted ownership in Seattle. In Denver, he wanted his own office. In PIT he was changing plays at the LOS operating totally autonomously to what Smith wanted. From people who know, he's in his own world, and is not someone you want in your building.

That said he is likely going to the Hall of Fame. Currently 11th all time in passing yards and only 16 TDs behind Eli Manning.  It would actually be a touch nauseating to see him eclipse Eli in a Giants uniform and have to "celebrate" that.

Ok. What evidence is there that Schoen/ Daboll aren't operating that way?

Quote from: Stringer Bell on March 28, 2025, 07:14:04 PMDrafting McCord at the top of the 2nd round would be a nightmare scenario. That's a full 2-round overdraft.
That's your opinion. I know he's ranked about seven in most projections, but I don't see it as a nightmare. Most likely, Howard and Shough go before him and I know that. I won't however be surprised if some team sees him as a fit for their system.
