Quote from: ozzie on December 26, 2022, 09:48:45 AMI agree it was disturbing, but I was highly disappointed.
As I said above, I don't want to give anything away for those who haven't seen it, so I'll just leave it at that for now.

Fair enough.

I certainly don't think it was great, but it kept me sufficiently engaged to watch it through the end. Usually if I don't like a show by the third episode or so, I let it go. I didn't do that with this one, however I will agree it wasn't anything that memorable.

I generally like Bobby Canavale and Naomi Watts as actors, so that may have been part of the reason why I thought it was decent. I also like Jennifer Coolidge.

Thanks guys, now I don't have to watch it.   :ok:  :ok:  :ok:

When my 2 favorite critics say it wasn't all that good, I can find better things to watch.

It was definitely creepy and kept you interested from episode to episode, but for my own reasons, overall I just have to give it a thumbs down.
Now, on to something else!

I stand by my B+ rating of it. Maybe a B is more appropriate, but I thought it was certainly watchable.

The thing is, if one is willing to dig around a little and do a little research, there really is no reason to ever watch anything that is just so-so. There is just way too much solid content out there that is easily attainable, even just between Amazon and Netflix alone. There is no reason to ever "settle", other than laziness (which admittedly I sometimes fall victim to when relaxing at night after a long day of work).

Treason- An MI6 deputy's bright future takes a sharp turn after a reunion with a Russian spy forces him to question his entire life and which side he truly wants to side with in a looming conflict.

Dropped on Netflix yesterday, 5 45 minute episodes and it was phenomenal. Think of it as Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy meets the new Tom Clancy Jack Ryan series.

Definitely a watch if you have time and with only 5 episodes it's easy to consume.

Lenn,

First off, I never read your post beyond the spoilers warning, so no worries - you you didn't ruin anything for me.

I think you make excellent points in this. I wouldn't say Paula (the friend invited by the rich family) got away entirely "scot-free", as her friend knows the truth and could decide to open her mouth at some point in the future.

I totally agree that it's absurd that the rich brat husband would have been allowed to just leave the state after killing the hotel manager. You would likely get charged with a crime in that situation, and even if you didn't, at the very least you'd be held for a while.

As for the wife reconciling with the husband, I agree that was a little weird, but we need to remember that this young woman did make the decision to marry this guy in the first place, so we're not dealing with someone with the best taste in men in the world. Most nice girls would not even date a guy like this for more than a week or two, let alone actually marry him. So whatever got her to marry him clearly prevailed.

Overall, I am with you: I found this season to be watchable, but not great. Some of the scenes with the rich overweight lady and the spa director were boring and at times painful (I can only deal with so much crying). I also thought the husband who gets the good cancer news was a boring, shallow character and appeared in way too many scenes.

Season 2 is just vastly superior on so many levels. It's hard to believe it came from the same creative mind. I actually cannot recall a single show that had that big of a quality jump from season 1 to season 2.

I just hope season 2 is indicative of where this show will be moving forward and that it doesn't underwhelm in season 3.

We have just finished Season 2 of White Lotus.
As you mentioned, I would say this second season was much better than Season 1, I would say mainly because of the superior cast. I fully enjoyed watching Michael Imperioli and F. Murray Abraham and their scenes together were remarkable. Funny, I really don't remember Micael doing much since his time on the Sopranos where he was more than excellent.
Over storyline was better and there weren't as many 'dull' moments as we had in Season 1. Just do not know why this show is listed as a comedy, it isn't even a dark comedy.
Our one complaint and it is huge is that they killed off Tanya. She was my wifes favorite character especially as she was carried over. She fought like hell to escape and then dies from a silly fall off the boat. Sorry but a huge BOOOO on that one.

We watched, after the show concluded, and listened to, I believe was the producer/writer--something like that) who sort of tried to explain away Tanya's death thinking it all was for the best. My wife and I totally disagree. So now, her husband who probably planned the entire thing inherits all her money. But this same gentleman also hinted that MAYBE it all might not be so rosy for him come next season if there is next season. So the plot continues. I believe he said the next one will take place in the Far East or the Middle East.

For me, First Season a D grade. second season would havve been a solid B, but killing Tanya, knocks it down to a B-.

Man, you're a tough grader Lenn. B- is a pretty mediocre grade. We can respectfully agree to disagree - I thought Season 2 was significantly better than that.

We just started a new show called "1923." It is the Prequel to Yellowstone. Starring Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren, two elite actors. Excellent first two episodes so far. Very violent, but gripping.

I am tough Dave. I watch so much and when I really like something, I sit up and say WOW, now that was great. I never got that feeling about watching this show. As I said, Season 2 was much better than season 1, we both agree with that. AND, I would have given it a solid B, which for me is a good rating, but again, I was very disturbed by the way they killed off Tanya.

Fair enough. The creator of the show said it was "such a Tanya way" for her to die. I didn't really get what he meant by that but it is what it is.

I thought the finale was superb. A lot of these shows, including some of the most celebrated ones like Game of Thrones and Killing Eve, really manage to botch up their endings. Writing a good finale isn't the easiest thing in the world.

Agreed.

People, including myself, are still upset about the GOT finale, as well as the Sopranos.

We faithful fans, who watch a show for years, and then get shafted with the finale. At least we had many good years of great watching before the endings.

I think it's easier said than done. All of these shows have a million sub-plots. Tying it all together in one hour isn't easy at all. I think White Lotus Season 2's finales was excellent, all things considered.

Friend of mine, who I trust when it comes to movies, series etc... Told me to watch "Dark" on Netflix.

It has been around for a while. I haven't seen it as I heard it was in german with subtitles (I'm not positive about that) but I have also heard good things about it.

I liked Dark. It took a couple of episodes to get into it. It's about time travel, time loops and disturbing child experiments.

I finished watching the series 1899 on Netflix. 1899 is from the same people who made the German series Dark.

It's about a cruise ship that answers a distress signal from a sister ship that has been missing for 4 months.

It may not seem like science fiction but it really is. Without giving too much away, let's just say things are not what they seem. The mood is dark and ominous and stranger and stranger things keep happening. One flaw of the series is the slow pace. The dialogue is even slow paced at times as it seems the silents gaps are too long. It is an interesting story though. I liked it but didn't love it
