Quote from: Philosophers on September 01, 2024, 03:41:04 PMUSC - LSU should be a good one.  USC's new DC is supposed to have really gotten his guys playing well in practice.  That has been USC's weakness under Riley.

Phil: I'm kicking myself.

I forgot about this thread and had intended to remind everyone to watch that game, especially for CB Jaylin Smith, USC (one of my prime "sleeper" picks for this year) but also because USC QB Miller Moss is a better player than most people think (and I like him a lot more than QB Garrett Nussmeier of LSU). He's not really big news in college ball because he has given no indication he's interested in playing in the NFL.

Lastly, Lincoln Riley is one of the true geniuses in the ranks of college football (and IMO the best head coach in the Big Ten, by far). He choreographs his offense brilliantly, keeping two steps ahead of the defense. In the first half, like the best NFL coaches, he sets up the plays he intends to use to win the game in the second half by running other versions of those plays that are not quite as deceptive. He's clever, sneaky and runs a few plays no one uses in the NFL but which I believe would work very well, because LSU's defense is no "slouch" (and they're well-coached) but Linc out-foxed them and got enough breaks to knock them off.

If Jeff Hostetler could do it, Daniel Jones can do it !!!

A name the Giants would do well to consider is Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty. He might be the best running back in the country and will be draft eligible even though he's only 20.

Bob - that game delivered plus USC looked good.  I am not willing yet to say they are a top 5 team but if Moss continues to QB well and their WRs make those great catches and their D keeps developing under new DC Lynn, they may get there.  All I read that the Big 10 this year is Ohio St and Oregon.  Nope.  USC can be in there.

Oregon looked bad, not Florida bad, but not elite either.

Really surprised how bad FSU has looked so far and feel the opposite about USC.

Last year USC looked like a JV squad when they played ND.  This year they look like a different team after losing the top QB in college from last year.
