SMART, TOUGH, DEPENDABLE

Ed Vette

"There is a greater purpose...that purpose is team. Winning, losing, playing hard, playing well, doing it for each other, winning the right way, winning the right way is a very important thing to me... Championships are won by teams who love one another, who respect one another, and play for and support one another."

I HATE TO INCLUDE THE WORD NASTY< BUT THAT IS PART OF BEING A WINNING FOOTBALL TEAM.

Well, that's precisely the time when Ray Perkins handed the keys over to Phil Simms 45 years ago. His first start, despite meek numbers, ended up pretty good as the Giants defeated the NFC Championship participants, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. It would be the first of four in succession for the young blonde Kentucky bomber who lit up the Meadowlands the following week and became a hit sensation.

So, why not for Maye?

All the best to the kid!

Peace!

"Dave Jennings was one of the all-time great Giants. He was a valued member of the Giants family for more than 30 years as a player and a broadcaster, and we were thrilled to include him in our Ring of Honor. We will miss him dearly." (John Mara)

Maye really struggled in the preseason. He's just not better than Brissette. As I type this, Maye has been badly missing open receivers. If the Giants were successful in moving up to draft him, I doubt he would have been able to
beat out Drew Lock, let alone DJ.

Sometimes the best trades you don't make are the best ones. There would be no Malik Nabers and others sacrificed for Drsft picks.

Caleb Williams really played his first four games. The last two he's looked like a different player. You draft a quarterback in the top five because you believe he's going to be a franchise quarterback. Let him take his lumps and develop. Jacoby Brissett has been given enough chances to start in the NFL and he simply isn't a quality starter in this league.

Beautiful throw for the TD.

Edit - I just read he's playing with a center that was signed on Thursday.

The Patriots lost both their Starting and backup Center?

Dude plays a whole half of football and you've determined it was good the Giants didn't move up to get him. Amazing. Why aren't you mentioning the 10 other players on the Pats offense to defend the QB?

Starter is out for season. Back-up injured late this week so the new guy started.

and in other news..... Watching Daniels play QB like a seasoned veteran. Meaningless wins instead of meaningful losses for those of you who don't want to believe in addition by subtraction.

Ahh, remember it so well.   Gmen started 0 - 5 that season.
Phil comes in and we win 4 in a row.
Feelings of euphoria are filling our hearts.

In come the Cowboys, Giants lead 14 - 6 in the fourth quarter.
The fuse is lit and burning, after 18 years we are ready to blast off again.

Stuabach leads 2 late drives, a TD and FG, and it is all over 16- 14 Dallas.

Perkins is so emotional at after game press conference he stammers out 2 sentences and leaves.

We finish at 6 - 10, but there is a feeling, yes a feeling a new era was starting.

But first a few bumps.  Simms suffers injuries to temporarily  derail us.  Then Brunner and Co. perform a miracle in 1981 with a huge assist from the best player in the history of the NFL, Mr.  Lawrence Taylor.

1982 brings a strike and we are sunk before we get started.  Ray Perkins leaves for Alabama.

Enter Bill Parcells in 1983, and a 3 win season in his inaugural season grease the skids for his exit orchestrated by George Young who wants Howard Schellenberger to run the Giants.  However Schellenberger has had his fill of being a HC in the NFL.  So we are stuck with Year 2 of Bill Parcells and a finally healthy Phil Simms who promptly throws for 4000 years, a playoff berth and first round playoff road win.

From there, nirvana for every Giants fan who ever drew a breath.

I thought Maye played well. 60%, 250 yds or so, 3 TDs. This was his first start, leading an overmatched team, against a good defense. When was the last time we had a QB throw 3 TDs?

Ed Vette

As most of you know, I was a supporter of Drake Maye. I still am. He played better than I thought he would on a bad team with terrible coaching. Still, he played poorly. Just as Eli did his first several games. Everything he worked on up to this point went out the window against an excellent football team. He was horribly off target often, his RB and Receivers did him no favors, but he had his moments that show what he could become. It's a damn shame his talent may go wasted in NE. Daboll would have made him into something special.
