Quote from: katkavage on November 20, 2024, 09:36:46 AMThe Giants need to be top 5 minimum. 4 is better. As of now there are three QBs who are close in evaluations. The Giants need to draft one of those three. The highest ranked player is Hunter from Colorado. He will go in the top three. Maybe number one since he is a two way star. Dallas will not pick a QB.

Hunter plays defense?
Dallas may not need a QB but if they pick before us they could trade the pick to a QB needy team. Trading with us won't happen.

Milroe. Needs work but the raw talent is insane.

I can see that, and I agree.  I will say, from the draft evaluators whose opinions I value, Milroe is not getting a lot of love (in terms of being talked up as a top pick) at this point in time.   It will be interesting to see how his stock goes when the draftniks start talking to more scouts and NFL front office people, and they see what he produces at the Combine.

Quote from: MightyGiants on November 20, 2024, 08:38:03 AMDallas tanking helps weaken the Giant's strength of schedule (which is currently acting as a big tiebreaker).  I see Dallas and Cleveland as the teams that most threaten the Giants' quest for the top draft pick

The Browns upset the Steelers last night (I did not see that one coming).  So that pushed the Giants up the draft board one slot to 3, and as I said, I didn't see a win on the Browns' remaining schedule so this was a fortunate turn of events in terms of the Giants draft position.

That was a great game. Winston had comeback game of the year. I didn't think he had it in him. It will be interesting to see how they do against Denver Monday night in Denver. I think they will beat Miami at home. Slotting is dynamic and in flux each week.

I don't have information on the simulation used to generate this, so I am posting this with that disclaimer:

Was a lot of fun to watch that game especially the crazy snow in the 2nd half.  Winston was one of the QBs I got wrong coming out of college.  Thought he would be an above average QB and would learn to not throw it to the other team.  He has some arm talent and I was happy for him to be able to get that win in Cleveland and give them a signature win for the season.

Browns are married to Watson for the next two years.  Thought I might wake up to some people on this forum suggesting the Giants sign Winston in FA.  Nabers will have a decent year of they do that.

Ultimately, the goal isn't to have individual players have a good season; it's to get wins.  Winston's penchant for giving the ball to the other team makes it difficult for that to happen.  Even Winston's signature win included an INT and a lost fumble (on his only sack).

I think his last season in TB was telling.  He had Mike Evans and Chris Godwin in their prime and a championship defense.  He lit it up with 5100 yards and 33 TDs, but also threw 30 INTs.  He always reminded me of Drew Bledsoe.  Although I think Bledsoe was better about limiting turnovers.

When it comes to INTs (harder to factor in fumbles as stats, in general, seem to ignore QB fumbles for the most part), I like to see a TD-to-INT ratio that is at least 2 to 1 or better year 3 to 1 or better.  I always felt the TD/INT ratio was a better way to look at INTs than INTs in isolation.

It would be more than just an individual player benefitting from a guy like Winston. Pushing the ball downfield helps Nabers, Hyatt, Slayton, Johnson, and the running game.

His addition is just as a bridge QB until Sanders is ready to play.  ;)

I wish I had shared your certainty about the Giants' ability to acquire a rookie quarterback they feel can be their franchise quarterback.   I had more optimism this time last year (in terms of getting their man) than I do today.

Anyone who has confidence in imagining When, Who, and Why the Giants will choose in the 2025 Draft will have little regard for history and role of chance and so might benefit from a lie down.

Cheers!

Why not sign Justin Fields in free agency . He will be 26 next year, and better than any of the QBS coming out this year. Draft Mason Graham, a terrific run stopper. Put him next to Dexter Lawrence . Draft a CB or OL in second round
