Quote from: ralphpal1 on June 18, 2024, 11:32:31 PMWe have a first round draft pick
A second round draft pick
J Hyatt  was going in the second round if JMS wasnt there
There is no reason this trio.should.not be amazing
If they arent
Either we dont know how to use them
Our coaches are bad
Our scouts are bad
OUR line and QB play are so bad nothing can help them

No reason to think Nabers won't be a very good or great player, but Wan'Dale is entering his third year on the team and to this point has done very little. I'm not saying he's bad or that he necessarily won't suddenly be good this year, because he might, but words like "amazing" for anyone other than Nabers (who has never played a single snap in the NFL) seem like a stretch.

In today's NFL "amazing" wide receivers show their chops as rookies. And CERTAINLY as second year players. Even with poor O lines and QB play. Look at what Garrett Wilson managed to do with Zach Wilson and a bad O line. Talent is talent.

I think we have a potential stud on our hands in Nabers, and it's possible that one of (or both of) Hyatt and Wan'Dale step up and have a breakout season as WR2 caliber players. Beyond that we don't have much. Guys like Slayton, McKenzie, and the now washed up Allen Robinson should not be expected to do a great deal.

Normally I don't like this type of stuff, particularly from players who have never set foot on an NFL field, but the Giants are just so starved of any kind of meaningful swagger on offense that I'm actually ok with it. This kid has confidence in his talent, and he should. I don't mind him gambling that he can back it up. Plus maybe it will fire up some of the other guys, including the QB.

What I won't like though is if all he cares about is how he did and he's happy if he had a good game but the team lost. Or he's sulking if the team won and he was blanketed and only had 4 catches for 38 yards. We saw some of that at times with Beckham. I better not see Nabers doing stupid TD celebrations when we're down by 27 with nine minutes left in the fourth quarter and he makes a nice play to cut it to down 20.

Two things have to happen with our pass catchers assuming Nabers is the real deal day 1.

1) Hyatt needs to complete his development now so the Giants can potentially send 2 WRs on split deeper routes to challenge safety coverage.

2) Theo Johnson needs to become a legit middle field threat to force safeties to choose their coverage.

If OL protects, I'd love to see this develop.

I think Theo takes over for Bellinger rather quickly. If Daboll was even remotely impressed with Bellinger we wouldn't have brought in Waller, 2 blocking TEs, or Theo.

The resume' is there. The best WRs in the SEC the last three years were,

2021 - Wan'Dale Robinson
2022 - Malik Nabers/Jalin Hyatt
2023 - Malik Nabers

I am fortunate to have seen a lot of these guys. I am expecting a lot from them.
