A sinkhole swallowed bleachers, a light pole and 100 feet of soccer fields at Gordon Moore Park in Alton, Illinois on Wednesday.

Surveillance video showed the moment the sinkhole opened up and an area where benched players would sit during games disappeared beneath the earth.

Good thing kids weren't playing on the field when it happened. On the other hand, the fact that someone was holding a video camera (doesn't look like it came from a phone) makes me wonder if they were aware it was about to happen, so a video camera was set up. Who knows?

We had a huge sinkhole in Upstate between Syracuse and Rochester years ago. I remember one guy driving to work that morning, still half asleep and drinking coffee, and he was shocked to fully awake when he saw a lake where there had never been a lake before, LOL. Apparently the collapse due to salt mining in the past

Worst one IMO, about 30 years ago or more, and man in Scranton, PA was driving a crane across a parking lot when it disappeared when the ground gave way. The hole was filled with water, so they sent special underwater machines down to try and retrieve the crane and the man's body. After going down several hundred feet and finding no sign of either, they eventually gave up and held a funeral service over a big hole in a parking lot later that week. Freaky
The fact that Keith Richards has outlived Richard Simmons, sure makes me question this whole, "healthy eating and exercise" thing

Ric,

I believe that was a surveillance camera.  According to the story, they think this was due to the field being build over an old mine.
