If a GM really wants to keep a player, they don't let him hit free agency.  We saw throughout last night's episode what happens when you are dealing with the free agent market.  All it takes is one team to like a player you want and they can drive up the player's price to the point where a wise GM has to walk away.

Exactly right.  Saying the "fair thing" was to let Saquon test the market might as well have been him saying "he's good but we're fine if he leaves". And perhaps Saquon understood that which is why he sounded a bit annoyed on the phone call.  It's not often that a guy becomes an unrestricted free agent, tests the market, and then comes back to the team they were previously on.
